Massively: news about I20?

Massively claims there is some news about I20 on the official site today.

If you were one of the lucky fans at the recent City of Heroes meet-and-greet, you were treated to a wealth of information from Paragon Studios about the future of the game. If you weren't, however, you still get a fair slice of luck with today's reveal on the official site about the Incarnate system, complete with lore illustrating the start of what promises to be a far-reaching storyline in the game. We've also gotten a look at the event's presentation on future content, which should give fans plenty to look forward to.

The Incarnate system is kicking off with the Alpha Slot in Issue 19, which will be focused on wide-ranging enhancements to all of a character's powers. Unlike Enhancements, Incarnate abilities can be slotted and removed without destroying them. Each slot will have several branches that players can explore as well, allowing for a great deal of character customization. Moreover, the most powerful Incarnate abilities allow characters to improve their effective level in battle past the cap. You can head to the official site for more details on the next major system of City of Heroes -- or you can take a look at the gallery for a preview of what's coming and the slides which give us a sneak peek at a new warehouse map, new costume pieces, and the trials of Issue 20.
The gallery is pretty sparse - mostly pictures of a Powerpoint presentation.

It does mention the Issue 20 Super Secret Closed Beta and "making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS", which I guess kind of explains the signed NDA - obviously they locked up the participating players in some sort of gigantic underground maze until one of them proved resourceful enough to destroy the main computer.

ETA: Possibly refers to this? (via Posi's Twitter)

SON OF EDIT: Incarnates overview, Incarnates lore, the Alpha slot, just so everyone who clicks on this thread knows what we're talking about.

So, Judgement is the second slot?!

Give. Now. And let me make Reason Speak! >=D

Eedit: Is it just me, or are some of the Alpha slot combinations of bonuses a little...wierd? I dunno...Damage and Immob duration, for instance. Still good and all, just occasionally worth a raised eyebrow.

Looks like components for crafting Alpha slot enhancements will only come from task forces.

nice teasers, looks fun!

r/e stuff being linked to TFs:
as long as the TFs are geared to the 1 hour runtimes Dr. Aeon mentioned in his Q&A I don't mind that at all.

The Nethergoat Archive: all my memories, all my characters, all my thoughts on CoH...eventually.

Indeed. And Incarnate shards, although I don't know where you get those. Probably dropped from mobs?

It seems like they're purposefully splitting the four most desirable attributes up, then sprinkling extra effects among them. Even if you won't use all of the extra capabilities, upgrading your Alpha Enhancements adds to the core effect, defies ED (one-sixth to two-thirds), and shifts your level.

Displeasure, for me at least. I prefer to solo, looks like I'll be pretty much skipping all this then.

But at least there seems to be new costume pieces coming...unless they're incarnate unlockables. Please say no to the unlockable bit.

If it's the same crafting system as the version in the GR beta, then the Incarnate Shards can be gotten on normal missions, and can be crafted into the ones you get on the TFs - so solo players can still use the system, even if it takes longer than getting the parts via TFs.

So, in Issue 20, in addition to a new 24 person public quest, we get... more warehouse maps! Sweet! Just what this game needs.

@Celestial Lord and @Celestial Lord Too

Sounds great but... a bit grindy.
Also, we have to wait even MORE to get the AoE Incarnate hability.
Only 1 Incarnate level per Issue? Hope they add at least 3!

How is it grindy if you're still doing the things you like to do every night, and getting rewarded even more than before? Do you want power faster? Do you crave legendary Incarnate powers? Then get ye posterior to a Taskforce of sorts.

Well, more variety for mission maps - especially the wareshouse ones - has been a pretty frequent request from quite a few players

I wouldn't assume that's all that's in Issue 20.

This, for instance, isn't explained:

Pretty sure that this might be somewhat new also:

Great for Controllers and Dominators. Extra damage *and* immobilization in the ST and AOE immobs? Not to mention the AOE immobs from PPP/APPs.

David outdid himself on that hospital. Hopefully we get to see more than just the lobby and the recovery Room, as in other hospitals.

It could have a similar interior to the Universities, and the university misison map.

Except larger, one hopes. The new warehouse map pretty much just looks like a recolored version of the standard one. An entirely new set of maps set in an 120-year-old mansion-type hospital? Sweetness. Not gonna happen, prolly, but sweetness if it did.
