Does anything else come close to this?
Fire Melee can pump out similar spike damage due to the added fire DoT in most (if not all) of its attacks. :3 If you pick Shield Defense to go with it, the damage will raise, of course.

Scrapper primaries offer little in terms of variance, on a grand scale. The differences in damage, DPA, and aesthetics are minor. Some sets have more AoE attacks than others. However, all of the damage sets play very similarly: do damage to kill stuff.
Your choice of power set mostly comes down to two things. The first is what you want to look like when you kill stuff. Do you want to swing a big sword, use some mysterious force, or set things on fire? The second is what extra, powerset-defining abilities you want. Do you want a way to heal yourself from your primary, or maybe a different build-up, or do you want more AoE damage options?
Armor sets do offer a lot more variance. Your choice determines what you can potentially survive well against, and what enemies you should avoid. Some armor sets offer a heal, while others offer damage buffs or other benefits.
Fire Melee isn't going to have that satisfying crunch, though. I think Broad Sword wins for that.
I feel like Super Strength has a similar level of smash. Maybe a high fury Brute with Knockout Blow? That's just single target, though.
Broad Sword/Shield Defense for king of the crunch.

Oh, well, if you want something that looks extremely hard hitting, try Stone Melee on a Brute. You'll almost wince when you hit something with Seismic Smash. Don't forget the mallets either, haha.

stone melee does the screen shake thingy... i love that.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
Elec Melee is accompanied by surprisingly smashy sounds too.
When my sm/sd waltzes into the stage there is much screen shaking followed by massive loss of life. Gotta love the crunch
I too can suggest Stone Melee if you're looking for a set which gives a feel of pure brutality. It comes close to surpassing Broadsword when a Brute really gets rolling. I can suggest Willpower or Electric to pair with it, as you'll want the endurance management. Willpower's easier to deal with of course, while Elec offers the bonus of +recharge.. Fiery Aura or Shield Defense for when you're looking for pure damage dealing though, with Fire having the bonus of end management.
I could totally see a Stone/Fire with custom lava Stone Melee

I haven't played my Stone/Fire since the Fire changes, I'd say it's pretty darn lovely now in terms of hideous amounts of hard hitting spike damage (especially if you stay Villianous and get Frenzy)
Battle Axe brutes might come close to what you're looking for too. No other set available to scrappers has the CRUNCH! feel of Broadsword.

Doesn't War Mace also offer a satisfying smash experience?
I also like the SHHHHHHIIIKKT! sound that weapons make when you draw them. I'm not really into role playing but sometimes you can't help yourself. For example, when my BS/Regen fights Clockwork, I always think the following:
"So, you guys like metal? I got some metal for ya."
SHHHHHHIIIKKT!
"Come and get it."
(followed by sounds of metal impacting metal)
Yes, it's cheesey. No, I'm not proud of it. But I'm still gonna do it. And I won't stop until they pull that Broadsword from my cold, dead hand.
warmace is pretty close. Bane crowd control from hide also makes me giddy.
I do love my BS/SR Scrapper. Level 46 and holding. Strangely, recently even with Elude on, I've been faceplanting. I'm wondering if something was "adjusted."
Anyway, my new love is Spines/Fire. Not being able to find a team last night, I decided to run around and test the limits of Stickwick. It goes something like this:
Big corner full of Council on the street (8 maybe?), all red to me. Turn on Quills and Blazing Aura (and all shields, of course), hit Build Up, jump into the middle, hit Spine Burst then Burn. Everyone's done in about 15 seconds except for a runner with a sliver who I throw an Impale at. Wow.
So then I see an even larger corner of 5th Column, this time all purples to me. I perform a strafe first with Throw Spines that right now is only single slotted with an Accuracy, then dive into the group and repeat the above process. Same results. Got down to half Health once and had time to knock off a Healing Flames, and for good measure a Consume. 20 seconds, maybe, to take down an entire group of purples?!! Holy crap.
Broadsword never felt this good, even max slotted.
While I agree BS is nice for the sound, very little in my book matches a nice Crane Kick to the face, to see the ragdoll body fly off into the sunset.
Double points for doing it off a roof.
I agree that Martial Arts has a similar hard-hitting single-target attack chain, satisfying sound effects and good dominating secondary effects.
I do love Broadsword though. As I have said elsewhere, Broadsword is a toolset...and every tool is a can opener...and the can is labeled "whoopass."

One thing that I recently sort of fell in love with is the crunch over kill damage that broadsword does. Nothing pleases me more than just 1 shotting missions especially if you can manage to line up 3 to 5 of them and crit kill them all. Its like pure joygasm (if thats even a word), thats really the best way to describe it. Are there any other primary with secondary combo that kills fast like this in 1 hit that doesnt have insane recharge?
