while weere on topic? hows gundrone?

Gun Drone is only marginally less bad than it used to be ever since they changed it to be mobile. It still takes eleven million seconds to activate, is interruptible, costs a lot of endurance, and expires after a certain duration.

Yep, if it had a more reasonable cast time or stayed out longer (with a corresponding increase in recharge time) I'd use it. As it is I like it but I can't be bothered to summon it (especially on teams).

It's nice when it's out, but you have to resummon it every 90 seconds and takes 7 seconds to summon. You can't control what it shoots at, but it adds to the damage getting thrown out there.

To be honest, I'm not sure why pets for Blasters are so difficult to keep up. I'd rather they stayed out permanently and could be targeted by mobs if we didn't have to summon them so much (just like Controller pets... and I wouldn't care if the recharge and endurance cost were equivalent for them). They're just so annoying to have to summon so much that it makes them not good to use.

Gun Drone is worse than "Sparky" from Electric Blast, but they're both powers that require resummoning too often.

You realise you can get not one, but THREE pets that do decent damage?
You just have to wait for level 47 for them.

Summon Spiderlings - Mace Mastery Patron Pool. For Bonus points, you get a S/L defence armor toggle as a prerequisite, which stacks nicely with Cloaking Device to let you toebomb stuff with "Tripmine".

(You can also go Mu Mastery to get a Mu Adept, but Spiderlings do a fair bit more damage)

Really though, it sounds like Devices might not be your cup of tea. Devices' damage is pretty much based on the Stealth/Smoke Grenade + Trip Mine tactic. It gets mitigation from Caltrops/Webnade plus +Perc and +ToHit from Targetting Drone.

Devices isn't a secondary that lends itself to prolonged damage output (or standard "steamrolling" team play, really). It is very, very solo friendly and can do some amazing amounts of spike damage... but it takes a considerable amount of time and preperation to set up all your mines to inflict that damage. If you're going to go for Devices and want to team a lot, I'd adivse you to pick a Primary that has a good amount of AoE and lends itself to that style of gameplay. Personally, I went with Ice/Devices. Frost Breath, Blizzard and Ice Storm see far more use than Trip Mine when teaming... but Ice/ also helps nicely when soloing. Combined with Caltrops/Webnade, foes are slooooooooow.

I don't know if that's the case. Sparky is pretty awful. It can't be buffed. Won't pull aggro, and has no HPs to soak damage. While it does add in a smidgen of damage, you can probably a pool power to give you more bang for your buck.

Of course my /dev blaster got banished off my primary server a while back during free transfers, so I'm not exactly going to stand up for gun drone either. Picking between those two is like choosing between athletes foot and jock itch.

Too many alts to list.

caltrop is pretty cool cos of bugged AI but webnade barely works on anything I need it to work on and is single target and smoke bomb is just jank. I might check out tripmine but I haven't lvl enough to get it yet.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but were you orginally an "AE baby"? From your posts it seems like you are trying to reform from such beginnings by asking some good questions, but judging from the above quote some of those attitudes remain the same.

If you wanted good pets, then rolling any blaster was a mistake. By all means, drop a character if it's not fun. However, try to keep an open mind in the case that you discover some other part of the set that just makes you go "YEAH!". I've never had a character turn out exactly the way I had envisioned, but all of them have become fun.

Devices is powerful. If I believed half of the negative garbage I read on these forums, then I never would have even tried some of the awesome stuff I've accomplished. Yesterday I was easily soloing Rikti Heavy Assault Suits with my Energy/Devices Blaster.

Can other sets do it better? Sure! Did my "gimped" guy do it too? Yup. Didn't even break a sweat, either.

I've been doing energy/dev. I'm only level 27, and not yet soloing tough content, but I'm certainly able to do stuff like tip missions without much effort. /dev really is nice for soloing -- caltrops gives you immense protection against melee attackers.

Web grenade is not about the immobilize. It's about the 50% penalty to recharge. Use it on annoying bosses and life is good.

wut my firstr lv50 (nb/sr stalker) was way before AE. I just can't stand anything thats lame damage, so I when i try to play stuff like corr, etc I just get bored and never touch them again (I got like a mind/thron dom, elec/therm corr, tanks all stuck at around 25-30). So big damage + quick killing is a must for me otherwise I will get bored and ditch them some time or other. My only other 50s are a elec/wp brute and fire/shield scrap, so I'm trying to find a good ranged AT to get to 50.
So I thought Gun Drone was like the Dom pets that adds a *** load of dmg, but I guess not.

another thing is I always play something that I got a for concept as well. So if a fotm is a combo I find weird I won't play it. So I had a fire/energy blast the damage was jawsome and soloing was AAA but I couldnt think of a good concept for it so I ditched it.

Im using a Arch/Devices right now so that why this thread is hre.

How do you define "lame" damage?

Fair enough, and I'm sorry if the implication was at all offensive. So you're more of a powergamer than a concept guy, even though concept is still really important to you.

If you want something really impressive, and can think of the right concept, try a Rad/Fire Blapper. By lvl 20 you'll be tearing everything apart while riding the razor's edge. Great AoE, and some soft control.

If I'm throwing like 3-4 attacks just to take out a minion that is lame damage. I ideally I dont' want to spend more than 2 skills to kill a minion maybe 3-4 on leut.

Sparky is better to me just because it doesn't take 7 seconds to summon. I dropped him from my Elec/Elec/Elec Blaster when I kept forgetting to summon him (so he was doing absolutely nothing at all, rather than a little). Long summons are just meh for me with pets, especially in Devices which has long animations for a lot of stuff. I like the set, it just needs some help.

But yes, as you said, Sparky has issues as well.

Good to know he does different stuff. Guess we're just unlucky that he always does the same one whenever we happen to find his stage. He is pretty funny, too, just from his interactions with his audience before the show (which don't seem scripted... and he always adjusts his story to people he interacts with).

I am quite disappointed you have left the motherland for... Arizona, though. Traitor!

You can blame it on the Weather Channel... Back one standard MN February
winter's morn in '95, I made the mistake of flipping on the TV.

In the Little Apple, it was -35F that day (not counting wind chill) and it was
65F in Phoenix, AZ.

At some point, it dawned on me that was a 100 degree differential, and I
was living in the "wrong" one... After that, it was only a matter of time
and logistics (being a computer programmer, I can work anywhere)

I always see Zilch at Scarborough Fair in Waxahachie TX. I think he may have a set order he does his stories in, because most often I'm at the fair with my mother (who likes to organize a schedule to see as many shows as possible) and I end up seeing Zilch at 4pm and he does Julio and Romiet. But the few times I've gone to a different show time, it's been a different story.

I love his ad-hoc comedy with the audience, too. I remember one year he started talking about the word "butterfly" in various languages. Such a beautiful word for such a beautiful creature. "Butterfly", "papillon", "mariposa", "paruparo", "farfalla", "borboleta"... in German it's "schmetterling". Like the man who invented the word was driving down the autobahn and had a butterfly hit his windshield and he started cursing as he tried to get it off. (The German exchange student we were with at the time told us that 'schmetter' translates to something along the lines of 'splat'. But looking it up, it seems that it actually derives from the Czech word for cream.)
