Honoring of Back Alley Brawler and the 8 at Galaxy City tonight?
Statesmonkey sez: The gathering was awe-inspiring. Great to see all you folks out there in game for once, even for as sad an occasion as this.
Thanks for the hard work, BaBs and other Unknown ex-Devs! You were a big part of why CoH is so fun! /em salute |
Looking forward to the screenshots tomorrow.
Well, I intended to post screenies, but mine came out really dark. And some idjit (that would be me) forgot to turn off the UI in the screenshots.
Sorry all.
It was a fantastic turnout and a nice tribute to a really good guy.
Thanks Chris.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Here's the best ones I got...
The Salute
The mass monkey dance
KABOOM!
Was going to post the (long!) whois from who was there at one point... but there's that whole forum rule bit about other players. >.< Let's just leave it at "lots."
We'll always carry a torch for BaB. Yes, that's corny. He'd have wanted it that way.
I'm still incredibly sad over this.

I have 74 screenshots from tonight, in various poses and angles if anybody would like a copy of something.
Thank you everyone that showed up tonight for this. I hope BaB truly gets the message how much he is loved and will be missed.
And to all the people that shall not be named, who were invisible tonight. Thank you for coming.
I took a lot of images.
My photobucket album here. I'll try and update it soon.

was still going even now, saw a few familiar faces.
Don't forget that he had a normal private game account as well as his red name account, so it's quite possible he'll still play, even if he'll never let on who he is

I'm well aware. However, his contributions to this game were invaluable. He understood and was connected to player culture like no other dev. He *got* us, listened to us, and interacted with us. Not having him contribute to the game as a dev is a huge loss for CoH, and it will never be the same.

Another example is War Witch - she used to post a lot more when she was the zone designer - but now that she's the lead designer, in addition to being busier, way more people are going to be way more likely to ask/demand things from her.
And with endgame content being a delicate subject too, Positron can't post much either

I guess I was a little late for the party. But there were still plenty of people lingering.
Another good way of honoring him would be to call him BAB, and not BaB, BABS, BaBS, Babs or BaBs

Thanks to everyone who showed at the tribute. It was the most moving moment I've had in Paragon City
To everyone who saluted, danced, held torches, and exploded: It was great fun on a sad day
Good luck to the Missing Nine. You will all be missed
There is no such thing as an "innocent bystander"
Melancton Tribute, a fresh lvl 1, could not Rest and had to kneel, and could not self-destruct at the end. But I could hold torches and PraetorianSalute, so it was all good. I enjoyed seeing folks in-game whose postings I enjoy reading. Steelclaw showed up as a girl, and when I remarked, "You look taller in the Forums," he came right back and quipped, "Butcher, too."
It was good times marking a sad occasion.
"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
Also, here are the people that made Back Alley Brawler tribute characters. Keep in mind some of them had names like "Goodbye BABs". Unfortunately, whoever took this picture was too foolish to leave names on:

My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw

(Even if it was BAB's choice... THIS!)
I'm really sorry that I missed this.
I made a tribute to him and parked it in Galaxy City anyway.
Much love and respect for our champ, CB aka BAB.
And thanks for putting this together, Marcian... Next time, call me on the Electric-Phone!!!
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
Marcian, thanks for setting this up.
I hope BaBs and the nameless 8 have a chance to see how much we appreciated their hard work at this gathering.
