Bye-Bye Junk emails! Well, ahem...., at least some of them.

So has anyone noticed that since we have been able to transfer influence between toons that the number of those ridiculous offers to grant oodles of influence for a price have since dwindled? There was a point prior to being able to transfer, that I just disabled my email options on all my toons because I was getting hit with so many of those ridiculous offers.

So good bye and good riddance to the unwanted solicitors. May you take your influence transferring ways to another MMO game.

I haven't noticed at all, but that's because I set it so that only friends could send me e-mails in the first place.

I haven't received a spam email in a year if not longer.

Be well, people of CoH.

I noticed the decrease in spam too, also noticed the delay in how soon you can send multiple emails (don't know if that was i18 or earlier though), or maybe the devs got some other kind of fix in there to prevent too much spamtasticness.

In other news: Aett, is it ever going to stop raining?? I'm gonna build an ark if this keeps up, been gloomy all day.

Damn, I wish you'd send that rain my way; we've been in drought for the last 2 months. Brown grass, reservoirs dropping 2 inches per day and all that good stuff.

I'm like Bill, I only allow email from Friends or SG mates, and even on the occasional character I forget to set that, I haven't gotten spam in forever.

I actually saw somebody spamming their stuff in broadcast.

The WW in Atlas Park seems to be the last holdout of the spammers. I've seen quite a few of them in there advertising in local. Aside from that, yeah, pretty much all gone.

Now that you mention it, yes!

Ditto. The last time I ever got any spam email on any of my toons was a little while after AE went live. I've never changed email settings on any toons or anything either. They simply stopped coming in. Not that I'm complaining or anything, lol.

I saw this at the weekend myself in local, I was surprised to say the least, as I've never seen that before. The only spamming via email I'm seeing these days though is on characters I haven't played with for months.

I exist in a perpetual state of /hide from search, so I haven't gotten any spam mail in ages. (I haven't had to use the new-ish mail filters except in one case where I forgot to rehide someone after leading a team at a Hamidon raid.)

Good to know they've diminished, though. I do consider RMTers something of a blight on any game. People can do what they want with their time and money, but I think paying someone else to play the game for you is dumb, and it's harder for people to do dumb things if the means of the dumbness is less accessible.

Nothing wrong with it at all, but I would think the usual ppl buying influence are the ones with uber builds on multiple toons (the ones that can run whole TFs/SFs by themselves) and PvPers. As long as there are 1 piece IOs that cost 5 billion, Im sure RMTers will continue to do well.

It is lovely not getting junkmail everyday but I have noticed increased gold spams at the markets in Cap and AP.

I haven't gotten an e-mail in about a year or so.

But the Atlas Park WW is crammed full of the jack*****.

I've never seen them in Atlas. Maybe they go to the higher populations of Freedumb and ((Virtue)) but are afraid of getting beat up on Pinnacle?

This. A couple of my older characters are still sitting on spam email that I haven't gotten around to deleting yet, but yeah, no new spam in a long time.

If the RMT clientele are PvPers (probably at least half if not more), then spammers would be wasting time on any server besides Freedom and maybe Virtue. Thats another plus towards playing on small servers

I know plenty of people in both camps, and while my anecdotes don't prove much, none of them bother with RMT. The most positive among them tend to ignore RMT as a waste of their real-world money, and the most negative tend to view it like I do. I agree that PvPers are probably the most likely to have the right motives for RMT to make sense, but I'm not sure that many actually use them.

None of the PvPers I know are particularly hurting for money. Most of them are the most capable players I know of for wringing the absolute most reward for least play time from the game, be that via market use, farming, or outright exploits. A few of them could probably lap my net worth 10x over, and I could fork out for several PvP +3% defs this very moment if I really wanted them. When you also consider that most of the ones I know will strip down older characters for IOs to use on new ones, they don't usually need that much wealth, even if you consider that they might have to buy respecs. (But don't forget that vets get all their vet respecs on new characters.)

As for PvErs, I find that people who actually fork out the cash to make "uber builds" while not knowing how to or being willing to milk the game for the money that it pours from its virtual heavens tend, well, not to be the brightest bulbs in the chandelier. It's either that or they are just immensely impatient, and when one is that impatient in PvE in a game like this, I'm back to feeling they're dumb.

I spose you could be right. I have just seen a lot of ppl in PvP with 3-6 toons and when they all look like 20bill builds I assume they buy money. If a person doesn't want to spend a 3rd of their game time playing the markets or farming to get rich, then seems like RMT would be the way to go. I just don't see how buying money from RMTers is paying someone else to play the game for you when single purple IOs in a set are going for 800 katrillion. Seems like it just means a person doesn't want to run the same TF/SFs for the next year to save up.

I can see where some may consider paying $20 IRL for influence to help be able to afford IOs for their niche toons stupid, but some ppl think its dumb to pay $15 a month to play an MMO...when Ms Pacman is free.

Don't get me wrong. I'm positive people do pay for it, or the sellers would have stopped selling a long time ago. I just have a hard time picturing it as widespread, given how many people I know in-game, none of whom admit to using it. I recognize that it's possible people aren't admitting to using it. and of course there's no guarantee that my circle of acquaintances is representative of the game's population.

I stopped tracking a while back, but their price in real $/inf was falling steadily for a long time, which suggested to me that enough people weren't taking them up on it.

I PvP, but at the same time I am patient with the market and know how to build a good build on the cheap. I have no need to use RMT, as I earn far more simply selling my drops than I spend on even the more expensive builds. Like Uber, I'm capable of buying several +3% def PvP IOs at the drop of a hat, and most of the PvPers (and almost all the PvEers) in my circle of friends are the same way.

I don't see anyone using RMTers except the stupid or lazy people, honestly.
