Like Uber, I'm capable of buying several +3% def PvP IOs at the drop of a hat, and most of the PvPers (and almost all the PvEers) in my circle of friends are the same way.

I don't see anyone using RMTers except the stupid or lazy people, honestly.
Guess we have to agree to disagree then. I have a cpl of toons IOd up for TFs and PvP...but even with what you guys are saying (and it makes sense) I just dont see how there are ppl running like 3-6 toons in zone PvP with IO bonus' 8 pages long and not using RMT service.

Then you don't understand what high end farming or marketeering can do. Across 4 toons that actively marketeer, I generate around 1BN a week at a cost of about half an hour a day of my play time, maybe less, and there are people way better at it than me.

If you're good at working the market, I wouldn't imagine that unless you have lots of full sets of PvP IOs (in which case you probably farm them), you're going to spend much more than 10BN on a build, so if you marketeer like I do, you can churn out 5 of those a year.

You are seriously overestimating the difficulty of making money in this game. If it were any easier it would literally rain inf. I can make billions of inf a week with only a bit of time spent at the markets and without having to farm at all.

I, for example, have dozens of well-built PvP characters across multiple servers and I've never even thought about resorting to RMT to fund even the most expensive of those builds.

I use Bing to get to the main City of Heroes website each morning rather than save it as a favorite and some turkeys bought the top spot because this morning for the first time an RMT site came up on top.

I wanted to share the comedy with you all.

LOL hard to farm.

As to their prices, $6.92 gets you 500 million influence and I have to wonder how/why anyone would buy 20 billion influence ($277.18)

So that is $13.85 per billion.

total kick to the gut

I think its great you have that kind of a handle on the market, I actually dont enjoy spending much time flipping stuff...just me. Between work and family, I don't have as much time to farm/market as as I'd like and when I do have the chance to play, I just like to play. I can't imagine my situation is so different from most. All I'm saying if someone wants to pay $13.85 for a billion (thx Swellguy), not sure how thats stupid. As expensive as my two TF toons were, when I see multiple ppl with whole pages of PvP IO bonus' on multiple toons for PvP probably up in the hundreds of billions...it seems like a stretch to me that a lot of ppl dont just buy it.

I'm going to have to spend more time at the market to make those billions a week. Take care guys

Well here are ways it is dangerous/stupid:
1. They may steal your credit card information.
2. If you get caught you get banned.

Personally even if it were 2 cents for 2 billion inf I would never take either of those risks. Besides the game works fine, even well, with just SOs. I've only gone nuts on two builds (spent around 3 billion plus my own drops over about a year) and while both of those characters are better than they were with SOs and common IOs they aren't enough better to justify buying inf to me.

I would recommend do just play. Don't bother with the markets unless it is something you want to do. I hate stopping to go to the markets to buy and sell and often don't upgrade my characters as I am playing until I feel like going shopping.

The only characters people ought to spend time shopping for are PvP characters or ones you plan to play at 50 and beyond. Otherwise it should only be done as an diversion/amusement.

You're getting less spam because most gold selling groups have dropped City of Heroes from their supported games.

Isn't that pretty obvious? The discussion is around reasons why they might do that.

I'm sure we could trot out the old "the game is dying" shtick, but there are others, ranging from the nature of this game de-emphasizing end-game gear, to relatively accessible ways to earn (gobs of) money, to changes that have made it harder to spam sales pitches.

CoH has always been small compared to the elephant that is <the-fantasy-game-not-to-be-named>. It's probably never had a big return on investment for RMTs. If there's any chance it's getting harder for RMTs to sell product here, it may well make sense for them to move on to other, more productive environments.
