Ok, ignoring that in other games flagged PvPers seems to trick PvErs into PvP, I have to say this is not a bad idea. I do not PvP, never will in this game, but I know that pvp is popular with some people. This would allow for the expansioin of the game for both factions.

I don't mind pvp in concept, but the purpose for pvp in the current pvp zones is too loose. The whole "attack-on-site" mentality of the zones seems pointless and negates any narrative the zones have. The team-orientation of pvp in general leaves me cold. Why not have actions that flag you for pvp, like trying to acquire WMDs. Hero or villain, that would make you a target, but just being in the zone should not be enough. This would allow badgers to enter the zones without hassle. I would love to see a more "zero-sum" approach to powers in pvp, meaning the cumulative effect of buffs and debuffs are equal to raw damage. This wouldn't help the "team-on-one" situation, but it would give the wayward empath a fighting chance.

A cool way to do this would be to have a portal to a zone that is the same as a Praetorian zone, except there's PvP. It'll be more of a team based thing, so Loyalists attack the Resistance while they're underground and vice versa. Maybe a capture the flag type thing.

1 Griefer flags himself for PVP
2 Griefer goes around looking for non-flagged PCs until he finds one that's hunting mobs in the street.
3 Griefer pays attention to attack chain, then jumps into the mob just before the unflagged PC fires an AoE/cone attack.
4 Unflagged PC's attack damages Griefer.
5 Griefer gleefully stomps on the PC, then returns to 2).

/unsigned.

Simple solution: Exclude AoEs as triggers.

Simpler Solution: Make PVP a flag you enter the options menu to turn on and off. Then noone who wants to avoid PVP will turn theirs on. Hurray!

i said it before and i will say it again. NO. this is not what the community wants or needs. there are PvP zones. you can type /arenalist in your chat box from anywhere. that is all we need.

Better yet have the default setting for PvP turned off so people interested in PvPing will have to go into their options menu and turn on PvP, That way new players won't be harrassed by PvP because they didn't know to set their flag to block PvP.

Still don't want more PvP zones tho.

Oh, I most definitely agree with you, Sharker. But if they were to ever put flagged PvP in the game (any game, really) there should be no way to "Accidentally" flag.

I think that's just absurd.

That's what I meant. People who avoid PvP will never bother to turn it on. People who WANT PvP will.

Though... I'd also want the PvP rules reverted to i12, and the "PvP" zones transferred into co-op hazard zones, instead of solid PvP and just make the objectives "PvP enabled" only.

So if you're not flagged for PvP the turrets in RV, for example, aren't orange or red, but have blue reticles.

At least that way the PvP zones would get more traffic. =-P

the problem with putting it in a zone where it does not belong is the fact that people will grief you by taunting you to PvP with them as much as possible until you log off. even ignoring them doesn't work as i had found out in another game. it's bad enough that we were given the /arenalist command so this could happen now, even though it is useful in PvP zones for that annoying person who acts like a child, but lets not make it any more bothersome. just leave PvP zones for PvP and PvE zones for just that, PvE.

read the thread. this is not wanted by the community. in any way shape or form. not even in flagged form.

I would much rather see a new PvP zone in Praetoria than to allow it in the main zones.

If there was a way to flag for PvP in the open game world, myself, and a number of people I know would most likely be quitting immediately. Simply because something like that is BOUND to have bugs, holes, and exploits in it that griefers can use to torment people who have no interest in PvP at all.

The aforementioned AoE thing would be a problem, as well as rain powers. There are probably hundreds of possible problems that could (and likely would) crop up almost instantly.

I do not want anything like this to happen, it would stand a good chance of running new players (or extremely anti-PvP players) out of the game when they realize that people can take advantage of this system to attack them while they are minding their own business.

There's apparently already been a couple exploits involving the alignment system that have been used to grief people (no, I don't know exactly what they are, nor do I care to), adding the same kind of thing as an intentional feature would just be asinine.

So, not to put too fine a point on it, but.....

NO ******* WAY WILL I EVER SUPPORT THIS!!!

And, another thing that just occurred to me:

Do you REALLY want a bunch of jacktards following people around spamming "DOOL ME!!!" all day? That would get annoying very fast.

The people that want an open world PvP are the ones who would be doing exactly that.

We have the ability to access the arena from nearly anywhere now. I haven't seen the flood of dueling trolls yet.

I didn't say we have a flood of dueling trolls, I said the people that want open world PvP are the ones who would make pests of themselves. "Dueling trolls" would not limit themselves to simply spamming someone with demands to duel, they'd also go out of their way to disrupt costume contests and social events. They'd fight in Wentworth's/Black Market, around trainers, Icon/Facemakers, University, npc stores, Pocket D.

Now it's remotely possible that some of the open world PvPers wouldn't act like this but I'm not betting on it.

Simple solution: Police Drones cancel dueling.
