The Sesame Street clip that's too hot for television (Yes, really.)

I saw it.... muted it.... and after the sketch was done, immediately changed the channel. It was only going to go downshirt from there. Hill! Downhill....

And apparently, according to a few posts ago, her breakout song was "I Kissed a Girl"?

Wasn't that someone else's song from the 90's?

That almost goes beyond the shameful lack of creativity these pop creatures display...

I mean, trying to be risque' and get attention by singing someone else's tame attempt to be risque' and get attention?

Wow. Seriously, wow. It's scary that the music industry just doesn't even try anymore and they can still get money from people. Not that there was ever a time that popular music was anything more than black souled record label executives stealing from people but this really has to be some kind of new low--for pop music as well as the people that buy it.

Initially I thought the same thing, but no, the jill sobule song is entirely different. different themes too, but not risking the mod beatdown of describing them.

Anyway. There is no naked cleavage in the clip. If you look properly you'll notice that the top Perry is wearing covers her to the neck. It's just flesh coloured cloth. It makes the oversensitive reaction all the more hilarious. Or sad, haven't decided yet.

Also, that Rainbow clip someone posted was one of the back tapes that used to be passed around at Christmas parties and so forth, it never actually aired.

Heh, you're right. I never bothered to look too closely at her outfit before but you can definitely make out the outline of where that mesh covers up to her neck and shoulders. It's the same type of "modesty" covering you see used by skaters and ballroom dancers' outfits. Knowing that it makes the censorship of this video by Sesame Street seem all the more silly. Oh well...

The songs are totally different actually. I liked her first album, but I have not looked into the second. The critics are saying it is rather weak compared to the first.

As was said, she is on Sesame Street due to the fact that she is popular with teens, and has been on many kid shows.

Do you remember the Kids Bops albums? THey were completely inappropriate for children. One of the songs they marketed for kids was John Mayers "Your Body is a Wonderland" and another was Shakira's "Whenever, Wherever". The lyrics alone on both songs should have been a clue.

My poiint is that many kid friendly shows make misakes like that.

That never appeared on TV, that skit was shot by the cast has an inside joke.

I thought that was the case too until I noticed someone saying Perry -wrote- "I Kissed a Girl" on another forum. So I looked it up. And no, Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" is NOT a cover of Jill Sobule's "I Kissed a Girl".

Which is even worse, if you ask me. Like Vanilla Ice "ding-ding-ding-dah-duh-duh-ding-ding" levels of bad.

I guess some of these parents never watched The Little Mermaid or Alladin? I mean, I'm all for keeping things "clean", but good lord.

Obviously the people who make Sesame Street are adults so they are going to do things offscreen that appeal to them at the workplace whenever they can. As I said earlier in this thread I trust that the onscreen content of this show will always be appropriate for kids and that there will be nothing "obvious" that could be harmful to them.

I think adults sometimes lose sight of the fact that there are media references which adults will interpret one way that kids will take completely differently. Your average 4 year old has no concept of who Katy Perry is or anything she's done in the rest of her "professional" career. The fact that you as an adult might not like her or don't approve of what she wears really has no bearing on what she can do on a kid's show to entertain kids.

Perhaps even though the banning of Perry's video on Sesame Street was ultimately stupid perhaps we can be thankful for it on another level because at least it did prompt a relatively funny skit on SNL.

I'm glad I'm not the only proponent of thread conservation. I'm also glad I had the forethought to check this thread before I got myself scooped.

Or because I think the majority of the music industry is a scam and a joke?

If not being familar with her music makes me dumb, then I'll count myself dumb then. And lucky.

And if you truly believe that the music industry isn't for the most part made up of con artists and business criminals, well, then I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
