It works for some people but personally, I don't think it's worth the headache. Then again, I've always been single so what do I know. *shrug*

Now you can cause your own problems, but that's a whole 'nother issue.

Personally I think if you are a serious gamer, this is one of those things you should explain to your partner ahead of time. If your partner does not understand that the MMO cannot pause, and you explained this to her in advance, and she wants to bother you for a reason that's not really important, then I question her ability to listen to and consider your wishes. On the other hand, if you waited until the moment to explain this to her when she is trying to get your attention for a reason she sees as valid, then I can understand why she would be upset. Basically you're only communicating that the game is more important than whatever reason she wants your attention.
Ideally, you would communicate to your partner that at times you don't want to be interrupted while you are gaming unless its very important. If the reason she wants your attention is considered important to her, then you should consider that whether or not you agree. Whether you like it or not, ignoring her for the game will communicate something to her. What it communicates though is something you can manage in advance if she's considerate and your are able to communicate well.
I met my Girlfriend on CoH. She also roleplays. We pretty much agree to try not to interrupt each other while gaming. Instead of just starting up a conversation, we announce to the other person that we would like their attention, and usually the other person responds quickly. Otherwise, if it can wait, we try to wait until the other person is not busy.
Of course, being both gamers, we have the obvious advantage of logging on and sending the other person a tell TRUST me, there are times where we have both done that. Teamspeak helps with that too, they cannot ignore you there!
But I'm no relationship expert. My ex-wife was a gamer. But then again, she played WoW, so I guess it was destined to happen that way.

Seriously though, I got really bored with that game since I came from CoX. It was fun at first, but finding teams was harder, it wasn't that solo or casual friendly, and getting around was so slow! I thought it would be better when I got a character to 40, but, ummm... those mounts are snails compared to what you can do in CoX.
Tried to get a friend to switch over, since we used to game a lot (and that was the easiest way to keep up once we lived in different states or a few hours from each other). Only played once with me and that was it. *sighs* This game is SO much better, sheesh!

I think someone did the math and between race, class and ability trees that other game has possible combinations in the low hundreds, but CoX has (not counting costume/power customization) with; AT, power sets, power selection, slotting, and powerpools, combinations in the thousands.
CoX > that other game that we are not allowed to talk about.

If your girlfriend (or boyfriend, or whatever you call your significant other) told you that you had to choose between her (him/it/them/whatever) and City of Heroes, which would you pick?

Her: It's either me or that stupid....
Me: DONE! Grab your toothbrush and those *** enlarging flannel pajama's outta my place. And don't call begging me to take you back till Monday; I'm doing an all Shard TF weekend. Laterzzzzzz.
Anyone who gives you an ultimatum like that is simply performing a power play. She's a control freak and trust me, it wouldn't have stopped with CoH.

Numbers can be an amazing thing, while they should be objective people often find a way to make them subjective.

I gotta agree with Viv... I love the sight of a woman in a flannel nightie or bathrobe.

Many of the posters above make good points, and good jokes, too!
My opinion as a single guy who has family that makes demands on my time by phone, by dropping in unannounced, etc.
GP is right, when he suggests that playing this game every waking hour that you're not at work isn't necessarily healthy. But, in some locations, there are not a great deal of alternative activities. I work nights. I sleep days. When I'm off, I tend to be up at night, and sleep days. This limits my ability to play softball, or find a bowling league or another hobby. So, I play CoH. I play a lot.
I read a lot. I belong to a 24 hour gym, so I can workout whenever I choose.
This young lady you speak of, she's simply a high maintenance girl. Nothing evil or sinister, just needing more attention than you're willing to give. Nothing evil or sinister about not wanting to be accomodating to her, either.
Keep doing the things you like to do, and someone will come along that also likes to do those things. Just don't be placing the game at the top of your priorities. God, Family, Job, CoH? CoH is a great game, but should it really be that high? It all depends on you.
Enjoy your day.

@Ukase
Used to be a constant thing with my wife. We were married before cox came along, so she didn't expect this. She would get on my case for playing even when she wasn't around - she would be going out shopping with her mother and say "You aren't going to be playing that stupid game are you?" Finally one day, I compared the time I spend on CoX to the time she spends watching QVC. She stopped saying anything about the game.
205723: A Different DESTINY
When Soldiers of Arachnos got their names added to the Destiny List, Longbow managed to get a copy of the list and began rounding villains up. But one name on the list shocked them...
Relationships won't last unless you make compromises. For some video games are a way to get away from the "real world" at least for a bit. I do believe that you have to be wary that it doesn't take you away from the "real world" too much. She should be willing to let you enjoy playing games, but you should also be willing to spend time doing things together. Women hate feeling like they have to compete for a guys attention.
But if you don't really like her and the nagging in getting to be too much; there are plenty other women out there.
Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

How to find out if you are an addict....
Find out the time logged on all of your toons. Compare that to the amount of time you have been a subscriber to the game. Early on I realized in the first 6 months of me playing this game that 10 percent of my entire waking life (within those six months of course) was spent on this game. Some people may say that's not really too much. To me though, that was a wake-up call for the need to not necessarily ditch the game, but keep better track of whether or not I'm playing it too much.
One day I asked Aquabladez to do this just for his main toon. The results were frightening!
Obviously the game is designed to be addictive first and foremost. Denial should be a red flag :P
Listen. If your woman gives you lip about not dropping out of a task force when she asks you to, tell her to get back into the kitchen and make you pancakes.
Bacon flavored pancakes.
