Dr. Aeon's Third Architect Challenge!

While I agree it sucks, I would imagine that the limitations are due to legal reasons and the devs' hands are tied. Every country (and probably every American state) has different laws governing how competitions can be carried out. I would guess that it would be of enormous cost to make a competition that follows the laws of every single country.

I would much prefer NCSoft put its resources into developing the game, rather than dumping a bunch of money on hiring an army of lawyers to work out competition legislation for the whole world. It was already a cost to NCSoft for the legal department to write those terms and conditions for the US and EU. Imagine the cost if they wrote that for every country.

Those laws revolve around cash prizes or prizes that have a dollar value. In this case, we're talking about fictional items in a computer game. I seriously doubt those laws apply here, and if they do, I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Are you sure that there are no laws from other countries that would apply in the case of virtual rewards? Because to even answer that question, you would pretty much have to consult a specialist for every single country.

I can't answer for all countries, but I can shed light for the Quebec reasons:

Also, in this link, the author mentions the prize value must exceed 2000$ Canadian for the rules to apply!

The AE is a great tool, and needs more attention. These contests are a great way of doing just that. I really like the idea, and it's a goodway of generating a positive "buzz" towards the AE.

However...

I seriously do not get the limitations this contest has been subjected to!

As pointed out by a few other posters before me, not being able to participate to one of CoH's many contest because of where we live, is annoying. I can understand that when the prize is of a monetary value or a physical object, but the prize here is nothing more than a Player title and a gold star... I mean really. No one outside the game would be affected by this; no borders to cross, no money to transfer, nothing!

If at all possible, I would appreciate a detailed explanation on why not every CoH player could participate in this?

My suggestion? Make a different set of rules for when contests have prizes that are related to in-game contents/items only, and require no involvement from outside factors. That way everyone would be able to participate, it would cut down the complaints in these kinds of threads by 1/3, and most likely draw more attention. Not to mention might be waaaay easier on Paragon studios to generate contest prizes? Player Titles and AE status don't cost a thing to give out like actual money or physical prizes, and other ideas could include special enhancements, rare IO sets, or even custom items so the player would be the only one to have it?

Thank you for reading.
I don't think there's one person who are still involved with MA that would disagree it needs some love. Many bugs still need to be addressed and a list of options we'd all love to see.

More challenges and a challenge ARC slot would do so much for the community. This challenge pulled a lot of us together and it was a joy helping and being helped with the ARCs.

But yeah the rules need revision. The blanket rules for every contest leave out people who pay the same subscirption as everyone else. Unless there's some other reason dealing with publicity or something.

Anyway I'm just another person out here who one of the main reason they play COH is because of MA. I know Going Rogue is the focus these days but don't forget us architects!

I'm with you, I think MA is the best part of the game (and it's an awesome game already!). I think the best way to focus the devs on MA is to use it, talk about it, and encourage others to do the same. The devs will put the most resources in the parts of the game that are the most popular. In other words, keep doing what you're doing.

Mission Architect is what brought me back after my departure just prior to issue 13. Now a year later I'm long since run out of arc slots, getting tired of bugs never being addressed, and burned through GR so easily that I'm finding myself logging in less and less often every week.

I guess I missed this by a mile and a half, but not really since it's intended for foreigners. But honestly, without any irony or sarcasm: Good Luck to Those Who Entered!

AE needed a pause while the Going Rogue content sank in, I think Dr. Aeon's contest might be excellent timing for many. Good stuff does come out of these contests.

Has anyone not got the "Your arc has been played" message in game from Dr. A? Everyone I spoke to seems to have gotten one expect for me. It's making me paranoid.

Right after contest closed I got a "Thank you for submitting your arc" message, but nothing else.

I have not gotten the pat "Your arc has been played" one yet...or are they one and the same?

The "Thank you for submitting your arc" was an email response to you successfully entering the contest.

The "Your arc has been played" is an in game tell from Dr. Aeon.

I happy to hear I'm not the only one and since we submitted around the same time I'm certain he has just not reached our arcs yet on the list.

I got one sometime this week (been playing Fallout: New Vegas, so tells have been piling up in the meantime.) I didn't look at the timestamp so who knows when it came in.

Maybe there's some confusion going around.

Dr. Aeon sent me a tell in game that said thank you for submitting your arc to the contest. Someone had played my arc which I know was him. Because it was like arc played 20 tickets- tell from Dr. Aeon Thanks for submitting your arc etc... Plus I don't get any plays being new so it was really easy to single out that it was him.

ANYWAY! I got that confirmation email (to my real email address not ingame) like October 6th because I entered on the 4th.

Hope the info helps. As long as you got the confirmation WN you should be in fine shape.

I got a confirmation my entry was received but I haven't got a tell in game to say its been played.

Posted

The autoresponse email was "yes, your entry has reached us."
The in-game tell was "yes, your arc's been played."

I know my arc was one of the last ones submitted, and I got my in-game tell yesterday or the day before (my brain is kinda fuzzy on the details and I don't log my chats). So if you HAVEN'T gotten your in-game tell, you may want to PM Dr. Aeon directly (and include the date/time of your email submitting your entry), and he should be able to verify things from there.

Best of luck to everyone!

Don't be so sure. I don't think Dr. Aeon is rating the arcs he plays. I've played through all the arcs I know of, I think including yours. I haven't commented on all of them, I haven't rated all of them. And I'm not the only one. So that 4-star rating doesn't have to be Dr. Aeon's, and I'm pretty sure it's not.

Maybe he started at the end since he got to mine before yours.

I have had a comment saying thanks for submitting, but no tell that I know of, but I did get some play throughs from other contestants! I hope to be able to return the favor and positive comments during the week!

(I hope those that did play my arc enjoyed it )

I got two responses, neither of which explicitly said the arc had been played, but I'm guessing the second one was that one.

I've still gotten no in game tell. I went back to be 1000% certain my arc was submitted correctly and that I got an email response indicating it had been entered and that's all perfect. Well, color me very worried at this point.

Mystery solved. I thought to ask my husband if he had logged on to my account for any reason in the past week. "Yeah, on Friday I logged on Miss Tilt to invite a new character of mine to the SG."

So, I go and check my chat log from that day and...."Message From @Dr. Aeon : Thanks for entering your arc into the Architect Contest!"

In forensics shows they always say like 90% of the time it's the husband and that held true here.

I can rest much easier now. I won't make the same claim for my hubby though.

Glad to hear everything worked out okay (except for your husband, of course).
