Kinetic Melee, trying to feel the power. What secondary though?
Lvl 28 km/ela here and having a great time with it. /ela caps energy damage res early on and their is a lot of energy damage in the new zones so from the start it feels pretty strong. Things are really picking up now that I have energize and stamina. I've also heard that /ela can be softcapped to s/l dam so end game should be just as fun.
Of the sets you mentioned /wp will be an smoother ride and both will be excellent end game performers. Hope this helped, have fun!
Level 11 KM/DA here and the animations are pretty flashy, but they just seem slow. I have not been very happy with the set yet and I may delete it and roll something else.
Well, I initially had little interest in Kinetic Melee as a powerset, but then I saw the animations and pretty much instantly fell in love with it.
However I'm finding myself at kind of a loss for what to do regarding a secondary. I know /SR can be absurdly tough to kill, especially if you throw Weave and Aid Self into the mix, but /WP is pretty tough as well and feeds into my Quick Recovery addiction. (I don't have a problem! I can stop any time I want to! Honestly!) Still, with all the debate going on about KM I'm a little uneasy and having a tough time deciding between the two secondaries, I'd love being able to solo on X8 and I know /WP is crazy strong in mob fights but I find myself a little worried about KM/WP's ability to survive fighting against that many enemies at once. KM/SR on the other hand sounds freakishly hard to kill at the high levels, even just running on SO's. Quickness sounds very, very nice too... So yes, I'm finding myself very torn between the two choices, and conceptually speaking either of them would work so I have no paticular preference there. What do you guys think? Bear in mind that while not aiming to be a hardcore farmer, I'd like be to able to solo on X8 fairly consistantly with this guy (Or at least X6 or so) preferably without constantly kissing the floor. I like feeling unstoppable. And hey, if there's an especially good suggestion for a secondary that I'm missing, I wouldn't mind hearing it! |
If only we could get some sort of smaller, buckler-type shield, especially a techy one.
To address your specific question, I say go with Willpower. The extra Endurance is huge as is the multi-layered defenses. I think that latter part is often overlooked for scrapper who team - with SR, you're capped, so those shields from your FF or Ice partner or all that accuracy debuff from your Rad or Dark teammate doesn't really do you a lot of good. Willpower accepts whatever buffs your teamates hand out and maximizes it. With SR you pop a purple and... nothing. With WP all of a sudden you have time for that crazy healing to kick in against all those mobs. Also, I think KM/SR would probably be a bit tighter build.
I am running 2 different KMs. /Electric Armor is great, almost full coverage on resist. /Willpwr is self-sustaining. Don't even need Stamina with /Willpwr. Either set is great. /Willpwr is probably better to solo with if that is what u are looking for.
/SR gives you great def vs. melee, AoE, and range: but when u get hit, it HURTS. /Regen is also great for soloing, but I am starting to believe /Will is better overall.
Had good success as a /regen in test.
I plan to repeat the experience live.
I have a KM/SD at 15 and I'm really enjoying him. At this point the only thing that is an issue for me is running out of End. I've gotta say being underground and getting piled on by destroyers or clockwork is a hoot. The only thing is having enough endurance to finish them all off. I'm using an elemental shield, electric form, and have it colored to match the kinetic effects. Personally I think it works well.
Trudging through KM/FA right now, at level 12 and just slotted level 15 IOs because why not? Waiting desperately to hit 24 so I can finally slot the 27 Steadfast: Resist Knockback I had laying about on another toon as KB is frustrating as hell. When I get up in levels though: Burn seems like a really good combination with Power Siphon and the new Fiery Embrace seems REALLY good with it (as the additional fire damage is in fact affected by +Dam from PS). /FA is not for the faint of heart, though, as you'll either have to change your build to account for KB or flop down some serious dough to get an IO to solve it. It's also notoriously squishy late-game, but absorbing alpha courtesy of Shadow Meld should help things once I get up in that level range, until then I'll just have to keep popping Purples to survive alphas.
Just left Preatoria with my KM/SR with DO's. On a team if there happens to be anyone at all with def buffs I'm golden and can even tank. Solo it's a bit harder but that's what insps are for I reckon Just got stamina for all out fighting and can't wait to pick up quickness
I have a KM/WP I started the other day will see how that goes soon.
Spines/ D A lvl 50 Scrap, stone/wm lvl 50 tank, Kat/reg lvl 50 Scrap
Grav/Kin lvl 50 Cont, Fire/Enegry lvl 50 Blast
Warshade lvl 50, PB lvl 39, nightwidow lvl 50, crab lvl 42
plant/thorns lvl 50 dom, ice/fire lvl 40 dom, grav/nrg lvl 41 dom
I had a KM/SR in beta that I was just getting into when everything went live. I plan on trying to recreate sometime in the coming months (working on 5 others right now. Alt-itis? Me? nah!)
I've played a Kin/Regen scrapper to 22 before crossing over to Paragon. With the size of the Praetorian spawns, as well as the numerous ambushes, the early Quick Recovery of Regen was helpful to keep me in the fight.

Oy... and my Kin Scrapper is DA. There's another recipe I have to scrounge up, and fast. Darn Destroyers like playing ping pong with my guys, it seems like.
Guide: Tanking, Wall of Fire Style (Updated for I19!), and the Four Rules of Tanking
Story Arc: Belated Justice, #88003

Grey Pilgrim: Fire/Fire Tanker (50), Victory
To the OP: I personally dont see anything wrong with either /sr or /wp. I went with /sr for concept reasons. KM has the tools for survivability, especially if repulsing torrent and burst are leveraged like shockwave is from Claws (note im not saying damage will be as effective). KM/Shields is also high on my list, but I *detest* the one-armed animations. Performance-wise, noting the KM attack chains, it doesnt seem KM need high-end rech to perform very well (to enhance that you'll probably need to go with /shields or /fire)

Instead of making a new thread, I will add my question to this one.
I am looking to finalize my character concept and need some help. I am looking for the best synergy for KM between Willpower and Electric. I am looking at the way the powers work in addition to the way they would look when trying to mesh them with Kinetic Melee.
The character's name is Crimson Concussion and is a mutant.
I may still tweak the costume a bit.
I have a couple of low level WP scrappers and a level 50 SS/ELA brute that I haven't played since before they added Energize. I do remember being a bit squishy against S/L.
Any ideas?

...okay, no more bias. Seriously though, if you have a Steadfast Protection /Fire seems to be the set to go. The new Burn, although not nearly as good as Shield Charge, gets in there earlier so you can have a nice one-two AoE punch with Burst and Burn (I even like the way that they sound together) without having to go through 34 levels of only one AoE attack. I'm at 16 now (only been playing casually and it's hard to level when there are no Fateweavers =/) and once I hit 24 and slot my ludicrously high level Steadfast I should be on easy street. Knockback has actually proven to be not that much of an issue, as you identify really quickly what mobs KB and pop a few purples before you face them (unless they're destroyers, then you just kill em'). But I've been grinding solo, so on teams it might be different.
Got a level 23 km/ela scrapper now and with every level it feels like its getting that powerfull. Dont really start to feel its potential though until you get energize + stamina but once i got them, wow the character feels like it really does have the potential to be my best all rounder scrapper.
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
That costume actually looks like it would mesh well with /Fire =D

How is /fire on the not dying part? What about endurance?

That being said, you are still a scrapper. You have mez protection and a fast recharging heal. You are still tougher than most non-armored characters.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
I have a KM/Willpower scrapper lvl 15 now and I am having a hard time with him last night I was doing the mission in praetoria where you have to kill the leader of the syndicate and I was sent to the hospital 4 times getting the MA guy down, the other caster guy was pretty easy though.

Out of the three; /EL, /fire and /WP, which would be the best IO wise?
I know some sets are easier to slot up and get the most out of.
Which bonuses for each set would I be looking for?
I know I would want to finish out /EL and soft cap the S/L resists, but should I shoot for any defense or would it not make enough of a difference. That sort of thing.

I've got a KM/SD up to 34 now and it's pretty amazing. AoO + Power Siphon = Fury for Scrappers. Concentrated Strike is my only real complaint, as its animation looks rather weird with a Shield. I can deal with it for the crazy, 500-damage hits in the 30's, though.
Hit lvl 16 picked up RTTC and now the only thing that ever holds me back is endurance and that holds me back alot. I figure by lvl 22 Endurance will never be an issue again.
|
The flaw...I couldn't take a hit very well... So I stuck to more tactical fighting...Assisting on point man aka tank of the team mostly ...stay alive dish out dammage =)
Second stalker...I am feeling the endurance issue with Spines/something i forget ..at least I can take a punch.
Try the regen when you get a chance this weekend...but the trade off is NoT taking a punch to the face well. The bonus is just beating on mobs ..add hasten (someone else suggested this thanks) ..you are a pro boxer!
I might have one. I know I did have a level 10 or so one, but may have used it. I will have to check my characters to see if someone is still holding it.
How is /fire on the not dying part? What about endurance? |
Not dying? Well the resistances almost feel like they aren't there, Healing flames is awesome though, so stack on the recharge.
Oh yea, actually /fire, you have recharge already right? RISE OF THE PHOENIX, once you get to level 50, you will come to welcome death Sometimes I simply charge head on into AV/Strong EB fights simply so I can face them after death, once I've become invulnerable and have blown all their minions into the dusts (or stunned them for the rest of their short lives).

I have to put a vote in for KM/SR. I just IO'd my own out a couple weeks back, and the ride to 50 was pretty fun, but the real gold has come after 50, being soft capped, fully charged up, and unstoppable. Picked up Aid Self for a little security blanket, ramp your Regen and HP as much as you can, and you're good. The hits that do get through can hurt, but its pretty easy to bounce back. The ride with Willpower might be a bit smoother overall, but I'm not so certain you'd have so much instant fun once you get to the end
