/Fire just got waaaaay better.
Could be because some people may not know what you're talking about. If this is in regards to an upcoming I18 change that's in beta, perhaps you could fill us in now that the NDA has been lifted. Otherwise, you could just wait until it goes live and wait for people to start talking about it.

Yup. Combustion out, Burn in on my Rad/Fire. Mass pant wetting and applauding populace ensues. And now with the ability to take Scorpion Shield rather than the ugly Ice Armor, ho ho ho indeed!
Not to mention Consume was also tweaked so it no longer cries in the shadow of Power Sink or a wet fish quite as much as it did.
Where is hephaestus? WHERE I ask?
They finally buffed /Fire!
Whats the max # targets new burn will hit now?
Does it still break you free of immobilizes?

One thing I don't get - now that Burn and Oil Slick have no fear, why must Ignite have it?

Huh. When I read that change, I didn't even think about my Elec/Fire. I think I'd forgot Blasters even have Burn.

I am not sold on the Burn changes. They seem alright and should make the power more useful to people who had no way to stop the running. It seems possible that a lot of the damage was shifted into an area where only a very limited number of targets will take any appreciable damage.
I frequently would see targets die off (or run at low health and then die from Hot Feet) and Burn just happily started killing someone else. Since so much of the damage was moved up front, that effect is not going to be nearly as strong. That said, I may come to appreciate the 5 targets taking a big wallop so quickly more than I appreciated the continuing damage effect.

I can't wait for the updated I18 Mids myself. Sooo many new options. My main is a Fire/Fire and he's gonna love those two changes...plus the new PPPs look delicious.

What are the numbers of the new Burn? How about in comparison to Fire Sword Circle? I don't have time to log onto the server today to check.
As for the target number, I think, esp. for the Blaster version, we might be able to request a higher target cap for it still. I think, in some ways, it may be simple oversight after these changes. Anyone confident enough to ask Castle?
Yes it does still break from immobilize. The change looks nice, but it's limited to 5 targets. I don't really understand why so few targets as it's not in line with most of the other AoE powers. Sometime I feel like the devs have become reluctant to give us too many AoE options (because they could improve farming ?).

Has burn switched from being a pet that you set at your feet to a true PBAoE? I wonder if Ignite will receive the same modification? (I hope not, at least initially)

Burn is still a pet you drop at your feet. It also still has a decent DoT component. However, a lot of its damage has been moved to an initial hit right as you place the power (and its currently bugged so that initial strike is auto-hit and it hits you too).

For me, personally I'm swapping my Nova out for Burn. I rarely ever use my Nova and I believe I will get a better mileage out of having burn in the build especially since my blaster is also one of my farming toons. With Web Envelop in my aresenal. I can immob mobs around me while all my DoTs and PBAoEs eat them alive (Immob will serve to stop HotFeet and Rain of Fire from scattering mobs). Right now I'm just wishing that there was a way for me to fit Blazing Aura in the build as well, but sadly if I wanna do that I'm gonna have to drop something that I actually want for it =/
And most probably even if I do pick it up, I'm not gonna have enough slots to slot it properly without gimping my defence or recharge.

Burn has had a 5 target cap for all ATs for a long, long time. Unfortunate throwback to the crippling nerfs Burn had.
I think it should be bumped up to 10, maybe after people play with it some on Live servers it'll get another look. Before the damage was mostly front-loaded the target cap wasn't as big a deal because each tick could hit different enemies so you were effectively damaging more than 5 with Burn. Don't get me wrong, I love Burn being front-loaded, just saying is all.

Edit: And because I had to check, on the blaster version, the initial tick is still auto-hit and still hits the caster as of two minutes ago.

You could drop a burn patch and have two near dead enemies only eat up a small portion of Burn's damage. Now, if two near dead targets are hit by the initial tick, a fair chunk of Burn's damage is going to be "wasted".

Havn't tried out the Burn changes with a blaster yet, but with my Ss/Fire brute, the Burn changes are amazing. It doesn't need it's max targets raised. It is *incredibly* powerful as is. The remaining DoTs still do decent damage, and the first 5 targets are pretty much killed instantly.
What was fixed? If you are referring to the auto-hit and self-damage of the first tick, I can assure you that, as of Saturday, August 14th, the blaster version of Burn was not fixed.
Edit: And because I had to check, on the blaster version, the initial tick is still auto-hit and still hits the caster as of two minutes ago. |
Oh, my bad...but this sucks. My blaster is the one who's gonna respec into this >.

The scrapper version does not hit the caster, but it does look like the initial tick is also auto-hit.
The blaster version appears to be doing more damage than it "should" on the initial tick, although the DoT is the same on all 4 ATs, since they all still summon the same pet.
With perma-rage and modest Fury, a SS brute using Burn will pretty much consistently get better mileage out of Burn than almost any blaster could hope for. I am not saying its a bad power for blasters, just that its better for brutes and scrappers (and that is assuming the bug where it damages the user gets fixed, otherwise its way, way better for the armored ATs).

Surprised nobody has been talking about this. With the change to Burn, /Fire just became more damaging then Fire/.
Rad/Fire was already really powerful, now I can't even imagine the kind of AoE it will be packing.
