Except for preceding or following the special. Well it may have been on once or twice since.

I think it's because it needs to be experienced in person with full audience interaction to really enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, I think the music is great and you can analyze the clever use of classic science fiction tropes to illustrate what conservative social culture considered to be "evil". But playing the movie straight with none of the meta experience just makes it an odd, "bad" movie musical.
I had never seen Rocky Horror Picture Show before, just references, so after hearing about the Glee episode, I decided to finally track it down and watch it. I did and just found it... odd. What you say here makes a lot of sense and now I have the desire to track down a showing around here to see what it is like with an audience. Thankfully I've heard of one theater in the city that does relatively regular showings. I didn't know there was that kind of experience, so thanks for sharing that tidbit!
  2. I feel the need to defend Kurt's predatory attitude a little, as I know where the character is coming from in this. It isn't right, but he's in a very difficult position to be in. As a gay teen in an environment where, as far as you know, you are the only one around, a little hope that someone else you're interested in could be like you encourages you to go for it. He's lonely and feels alone, but if he doesn't act upon it and try, he'll never know if he'll find someone too. Even today, depending on where you live, being an out gay teen is really tough and not everyone has somewhere to turn to. Unlike for straight people, its difficult to locate other people you can safely have interest in unless you're in a known area populated by other gay people. It can also be a dangerous environment to express your feelings. When everyone else around you is dating or can easily express affections, it makes you feel like even more of an outcast.

Yes, Kurt comes on strong. But its also socially awkward to go "Hey, are you gay?" to anyone you might be interested in, not to mention possibly dangerous. I may not agree with his methods (its certainly nothing I ever tried), but I can see where he's coming from. Aside from how very stereotypical Kurt can be, the writers are doing a good job to help me empathize with him. When I was a teenager, I was lucky to get through high school without any major troubles when I came out. But not everyone is.
  3. Kinda hard to see, but it seems our feedback on Apex's costume was received. Otherwise, looks like some great content and QoL stuff this issue!
  4. I checked Ouroboros and did a brief search on ParagonWiki, but thought I'd make a final check. Does anyone know of any of the 40-50 story arcs or Task/Strike Forces that exemplar you below 45? I'm planning a build where I want to keep the bonuses for any content above 40, so I'm trying to figure out the highest IO level I can go.

    Thanks!
  5. With the APP changes, I was thinking of revamping my Mind/Psi's Permadom build to be more thematic. Thoughts?

  6. I've finally gotten to finishing my Ice/Cold Corruptor's journey to 50 and trying to make a good build with sets for him. Unfortunately, its been hard to find one aspect I can really build towards for high levels without giving up something I don't want to. Really, the only thing I need to improve my survivability, so I cooked up a few builds I thought were good overall (increasing survivability and adding more offense) and wanted opinions.

First is a team build I'm strongly leaning towards. I picked powers to be responsive to exemplaring, emphasising my buffs, debuffs, controls and other powers that could benefit the team first before personal damage. It is also a decent build for soloing too. I primarily build towards getting high defense values with a good amount of global recharge too. While not softcapped, a small purple softcaps me to Smashing, Lethal, Energy and just shy of 45% for Ranged, which covers a lot of the attacks I face. 80% global recharge is pretty good too. Its an expensive build though, but I'm not expecting to get it together immediately. I could build for higher Energy and Ranged Defense, but then I wouldn't have the purples, which are great for providing extra recharge when exemplared down.

For the sake of completeness, here's a build that focuses completely on global recharge. I don't think it would really help my survivability as much as the mixed build, but I'm willing to hear thoughts and experiences.

Finally, this is a solo build I came up with that I may work on after forming the team build. It has more of a focus on tools I need for survivability alone first (dealing damaging and surviving it) with a couple buffs as LotG mules later on. Its bonuses end up similar to the first build, just the powers are taken in a different order with different priority.

Thoughts? I'm really excited for this build as something to work towards.

A tangentially related question. Are there any story arcs or Task/Strike Forces that exemplar you to 44? Most stuff in the 40-45 or 50 range brings you to level 45 or 50. I'm looking to maintain my defenses at least in those last 5 levels, since that is when most of my defense powers will be available. So if it is 44, I'd use level 47 set IOs and 48 if it is 45.
  7. Haha, you're right, Zen did. When I was looking to remind myself, I just saw the links and went with it. Sorry Zen. I'll correct my post for proper credit.

Thanks for the reply though. That really clarified a bit about memory that I didn't know before. I always under the mistaken impression (although not entirely incorrect) that more was just simply better. But if it can't really fully utilize it, it's pointless.
  8. So, the power supply that Zen_Watcher listed before is currently in a pretty good bundle with a pack of 3 sticks of 2 GB RAM. They're the same product line as the ones that were listed earlier too, but listed as compatible with the Intel i7 rather than the i5. The motherboard lists that it would accept these too. But if I go for the i5 processor (which is what I'm planning), would these not work? In the end, I'm paying (with the combo) $5 more for an extra 2 GB of RAM. Is it worth it and would it work?

You know, I've never thought of it that way before, but you're right. They are very similar. Reminds me also of how I compare the various phone companies when the discussion comes up. All of them have their pros and cons, you just need to figure out what is more important to you, what you're willing to give up and then go with the choice closest to that.

Well, yeah, that's pretty much what I meant. Sorry if it didn't quite come off that way.
  11. Tip missions, much like Newspaper/Police Radio missions, are no longer in your mission queue after they are finished. Because of this, any clues that you may have gained disappear. I think it has something to do with there being no static contact.

Before, when it was just Newspaper and Police Radio missions, it was a bit annoying, but very manageable because there really wasn't any story related to the missions. However, the Tip missions have a lot of story content in them and, due to this limitation, it is easy to miss out on parts of it. Sometimes a glowie might be found after the mission objective and now I can't even read the clue. Your objective might say something that is added to the Clues, but you will never read it because it also finished the mission.

Please find a way to resolve this issue so we can still read the clues at the end of these types of missions. Its become more than an annoyance now that I am missing out on real story content.
  12. Thanks for all the comments! Its given me a lot to consider. One of my major reasons for wanting to get a Droid is giving me something to use while I'm having downtime and not at home. I use public transportation and often have pretty long commutes of doing, well, not a whole lot. Books are great and all, but they're also extra baggage to carry, as is my DS. It would also help a lot when I get lost, heh. I also love gadgets, no denying it.

As another poster said, I don't view this as a need, but a simple want. I can think of many things I can use it for, so if I'm willing to pay for the privilege, why not?

Thankfully I've got a job interview for a position I really want tomorrow, so maybe this new phone will be a reality sooner rather than later!
  13. Hmm. Maybe I'll have to transfer a version over to test and play with for a bit. However, I guess a better way to put the question would be: is having that panic button more useful than building to good defenses? With the build I'm working on with Scorpion Shield, I have around 36% Defense to Smashing and Lethal, softcapped (or very close to it) Energy Defense, ~30% Negative Energy Defense and, I think, 33-34% Defense to Ranged. This build is also getting pretty good global recharge. With using the build that has Hibernate, the best numbers I seem to get is 32-33% Ranged Defense and ~30% Energy/Negative Energy Defense. I mean, it does sound good in place of a self-heal, but I've played this whole time with only inspirations to heal me just fine.

Ugh, sometimes I make this min/maxing stuff more trouble than it needs to be. Oh well, at least I have fun making builds and working the numbers.
  14. I've been working on builds for my Ice/Cold Corruptor, who just reached 47, and every build uses the Leviathan Mastery so far because, conceptually, its the closest to ice I can get. In those builds, I include Hibernate because I think it might be useful, but I've never actually used it in play. However, after playing around a bit more, I found Scorpion Shield so much more useful for the goal of building defense and recharge and its also only one power pick. I can work it in conceptually, although I'd prefer something cold-based... So really, what I want to know is how useful other players have found Hibernate on a Corruptor? Is it really anything more than a glorified Rest for the squishy ATs?
  15. Thank you both, Zen_Watcher and Father Xmas. You both have helped me learn a lot.

You both mention a bit about overclocking though. While I've heard about it and know it can lead to performance gains, I've never had an item that I OCed personally, only factory OCed. Even then, its only been OCing a graphics card, never a motherboard. Other than trying to push your hardware to its limits, why would you do this? And, if I wanted to, how would I go about doing this? Is it a recommended to do?

Thanks for letting me abuse your knowledge. This'll be my very first time actually putting the vital hardware together, so learning all of this will be really helpful.

EDIT: Heh, Texas Justice posted as I was typing. Yes, I'm not looking for all the pretties and the shiny stuff right now, since they're usually more expensive, but I agree that they're nice to have when you can afford extravagance. As for the OC part, you hit it right on the nail. I'm still open to learning though and having the potential in the future, especially if it'll help me retain the usefulness of the parts longer by being able to gain better performance from the parts.

Lucky you. I wear my shoes out like crazy from constant use, even when I have different pairs. I'm lucky when my athletic shoes last a year nowadays before I need a new pair. I still try to stretch it out as long as I can, but they can get extremely uncomfortable to wear after awhile.

Anyway, I'll get to responding to other posters later. Thanks for all the positive and negative opinions! I'm glad to hear both sides, but please keep it constructive. We're all (hopefully) friends here.

Great case, PSU is old and limited with only a combined 22 amps at 12 volts available. Current generation 450 watt PSUs, at least the high quality ones, are over 30 amps. The reason this is important is because both the CPU and video card draw their power from 12 volts.
Thanks for the info! I was worried that my case might be too small after my old 8800 GT (that BFG's liquidation eliminated thanks to no longer honoring RMAs... grr...), but I'm glad I won't have to buy a new one. Although there sure are some purdy ones out there...

Power supplies are something I generally don't understand, at least with their general usage on a computer. For future reference, what is the best way to go about determining the proper power supply for your system?

If you are trying to keep the price down, dropping $200 on a small SSD isn't the best way to spend your money.

SATA III (aka 6Gb/s) not going to matter a lot short term and then only on SSDs. Conventional HDs barely exceed SATA I transfer rate limits.
Was this in reference to the other poster? I didn't mention anything about looking to purchase new hard drives (well, yet...).

    Ideas

The MSI P55-GD85 is a nice motherboard at $230, the P55-GD65 is also nice but $70 less.

There is a factory OC GTX 460 1GB card from eVGA for $240.

    The i5-760 is $210

    4GB, 2x2GB DDR3-1333, Cas 7 for $100.

And as fugly I may think the XFX PSU Zen recommended looks, it does get great reviews from sites I respect that tear a PSU down, analyze it's parts and do proper load testing. Currently the XFX Black Edition 750 watt is $130.

    So that's $910 with the GD85 motherboard, $840 with the GD65 motherboard.
Thanks again FatherXmas! This gives me a great place to start and some pieces to watch. Knowing my luck, I probably won't be able to buy these for a few months still, but I can keep my mind on the pieces and hopefully they'll go on sale. If I was willing to put down a bit more money, where would you recommend going up from your current suggestions?

Also... I can't tell the difference between the two motherboards that justifies the cost difference. Can you elaborate? A lot of the specific tech specs are foreign to me.
  18. I'd like to aim for $800-900, but obviously I wouldn't mind less. This could be the current pricing of it and I'll just watch for the prices to go down. The NVIDIA GTX 460 is sounding like a good card to go for, but I have no experience with ATI, so I don't really know how it all compares overall. I really only am looking to replace the 4 pieces I mentioned right now as my hard drives, DVD-R drive and (probably unneeded) sound card are probably fine for now. If it'll last me a long time, I'm fine with paying a bit extra, but I'm not worried about being top of the line good. I play a lot of games on my computer, but its usually RPGs like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, along with CoH of course. So if I can run them well and other programs on my computer, I'll be happy.

But there is always that satisfying feeling of creating a big, powerful beast of a PC that you really don't need too.
  19. I'm not in too different of a situation and won't be buying my new phone until I have more reliable work. But I like planning ahead and I've been thinking of this a lot lately, so why not just ask the opinion of people I've found provide some good feedback? This forum is, in general, quite helpful.

I'll tell you this right now: Don't consider a smartphone unless you are willing to pay the outrageous fee of 30 bucks a month for their mandatory data package BS. Yes, there's no way around it... even if you have a wireless connection at home and intend to us it for most of your online use. It's still mandatory.

Someone really needs to regulate these a-hole cellphone service providers.
Wow, what coincidence! Yeah, I'm fully prepared for that charge. Although, from what I've been told, it is comparatively a better deal than some of the competitors *coughAT&Tcough* provide for their data plans. But that's from secondhand information. I agree that, like text message charges, its pretty ridiculous, but there isn't much we can do as long as people are willing to pay for it. Which includes me now.
  21. I need some advice from all you tech savvy people. The core of my computer is running on over 4 years old and I think its time to start planning my upgrades. Pretty much ANYTHING will be an upgrade over what I'm running right now, but I still want to go for a pretty modest upgrade so I'll still be good again for a few years before having to upgrade most of my pieces. Unfortunately, I'm not that well-versed on hardware and had a friend help me out last time.

I'm looking to upgrade my video card, memory, motherboard and processor, unless something is salvagable in the upgrade (such as my current memory sticks). Here's what I've got:

    Mushkin 2GB DDR2 800 RAM
    BFG Tech GeForce 7900GT
    ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AMD Motherboard
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.2GHz Dual-Core Processor

In case I'll end up needing more space for new parts, this is my case and this is my power supply. I'm currently running Win7 64-bit for an OS. Let me know if you need to know anything else.

So... that's my computer. Where can I go from here to get the most bang for my buck? Newegg links would be helpful.
  22. So, since this forum is now the official off-topic forum (sans video games, politics and religion...), I wanted to ask my fellow CoH players for their opinions on smartphones.

I have been resisting buying a smartphone for a few years now, but have thought I'd finally give in, especially since there are now more appealing alternatives to the iPhone. It also doesn't help that, for various reasons, I'm rather stuck with Verizon. Now that my contract is nearly up and I have 2-year discounted upgrade, I was looking into getting an Android phone, the primary contenders being either the Droid X or Droid 2. However, I've been having a difficult time finding a decent comparison with the two. Anyone have any personal experiences? I plan on visiting a Verizon store in the future to try them first hand. What about other smartphones being offered from Verizon?

Oh, for reference, I'm wanting to move from an LG Voyager. I have no fear of my phone having any issues soon, so I might even be persuaded to wait until next year. But the temptation for a smartphone and its many uses has been gnawing at me for awhile. I just want to make an informed decision and know there are some very knowledgeable folks around here.
  23. Thanks for the input. I'm sticking with Flame Mastery for concept, otherwise I probably would go Scorpion. I detest the Ice Armor graphics on most characters...
  24. Hey all, was just hoping for a bit of input on my Fire/Fire Blaster's new build I've been working on. Managed to get a decent amount of Ranged, Energy and Negative Energy Defense for some further survivability and also add in some recharge too. For the most part, I think its a pretty good build where all the powers are still slotted for all they need and I can stack set bonuses on top. I can put out quite a bit of damage and survive more! What do you think? This is a build to work towards, so I'm not worried about the use of purples for now, but plan to eventually utilize them.

  25. I think another way to view many of the Warden moral choices is in the context of short-term versus long-term. Many of the Resistance choices are about the immediate result, whereas the Loyalist options seem to view it from the present benefit and long-term effects of the decision. Get Arvin and his nephew out of Praetoria now, destorying part of the Seer Network and blowing up the water treatment facility end up being good things at the time, to bring freedom to those people, but people may suffer more because of the decisions. Dr. Arvin's research will never help other Destroyers, crimes from the Syndicate and Destroyers will be harder to prevent and, finally, the people will have to survive off tainted water for months. These are the examples provided from meta-text, so I believe their reliable. It makes you also think a bit differently about how heroic your decisions really are.

When I did the Warden arcs in beta, I did them as an undercover Loyalist. Provost Marchand really provides some interesting insight into the various situations too. For example, he actually tells you to help Dr. Arvin because he would love to stop their destruction, despite displeasing White and Duncan, and it is the Deputy of Information, trying to further his position, that rats Dr. Arvin out. Marchand seems to disapprove more of the Resistance's methods rather than what they're trying to achieve. Its the Crusaders he says he worries about, not the Wardens.

The more I talked to Marchand, the more I liked him overall. Not to say he doesn't ask you to do some disagreeable actions, but I still like him more than I'll ever care for Calvin Scott. He really is a Responsibility Loyalist, which makes sense since its along those lines of protecting the people and stopping the invasion that he encourages you to go to Paragon City.
