How much of a danger is there that GR will introduce new sets or attributes so that the values of purples and other high end sets will fall?

To the best of my knowledge, very little.

The only thing I can imagine that would cause the prices of purples to fall significantly would be to up their drop rate a lot.

You know swell, you bring up a great point... and we all know that isn't going to happen. Isn't it ironic that the census seems to be against farming, yet with the current drop rate being as it is, it pretty much forces people to farm in order to improve the chance of getting them, without having to buy them that is...

That depends on what someone considers to be farming, force, and chance of getting them means specific ones of any.

By some of the more ridiculous people's definitions you cannot play at level 50 and not farm. I ignore that meaning. I get mine by playing my 50s: street sweeping, radios, safeguards, Ouros arcs 45-50 level. I'd do the high end TFs if I could get the time consistently. None of which I'd call farming.

Of course someone who refuses to use the markets is never going to get their purples unless they are obscenely lucky. I believe people say it takes 1500-2000 kills to get a purple to drop on average. There are 60 different purple recipes. I will leave the math formula to people more versed in it. I just know enough to know it's not going to happen even when farming to get the ones you want.

tl;dr version: farming won't do it.

As far as I can tell, it works out somewhere roughly around a 100% chance of getting part of the Confuse set.

My money is on "zero danger."

Interesting counterpoint: I logged in today to find that every single purple bid I had placed filled overnight. That's several billion in purples being dumped in a day. Perhaps someone knows something :-/

Or they decided to quit.

Or they think they know something.

Or their account got hacked. Ouch.

Or if enhancements not recipes, a SG got raided. Also ouch.

Anyway with market merging and reset on the 17th I think we could see really weird stuff for the next 4 weeks.

I agree with this. I love the chaos.

Doooom is on the horizon! Please stop buying purples red side so the prices drop. That way I can stock up on all the things i'll need for any character I plan to roll next month.

Thanks,

None at all?

I don't have a single character that has a full Purple set. I've never understood the 'need' for Purples. Oh, I can afford them if I wish. I've just never needed to slot them. My new slogun is "Purples are overrated!"

Purples are good if what you want is shedloads of recharge and accuracy bonuses. I find the real value in them, though, is if you exemplar down to do low level TFs a lot. The extra accuracy, recharge, and a bit of recovery and regen are all very nice.

Depends on the set. The confuse also packs the highest ranged defense bonus in the game (5%). And some of the procs offer things that are unavailable anywhere else (chance to hold in an AoE immobilize is spectacular, chance to knockdown added to aoe dots, etc).

Plus the proc damage. When you exemp so low that your enhancements are trash, having a 1/3 chance for additional moderate damage is pretty significant.

I can agree to that. I, however, make liberal use of the second build for exemplar purposes. I often wonder just how many people actually use the second build.

From my experience very few use dual builds.

I think PVPErs may have a greater use, but from my in game buddies, almost everyone has used it just to get a 'ski-ing' build for the winter event badges.

I do know of one person who had a dual build for PVE content, one for normal play, one for stealthing TFs with rceall chosen especially early.

I wish that dual build allowed the second build to use enhancements from the primary build.

I have one toon where I switch between builds regularly, a DB scrapper whose high level build is missing nimble slash, so I have a (common IOd) exemping build with the lower combos. I haven't done one for my permagranite, but it would be sensible to do so.

That couldn't be possible and still have it be a dual build. The whole point is to swap around the slots and powers. If you kept the same IOs some/most would be invalid.

But as a player with sever alt-itis, I definitely understand the desire and sympathize with it. What I found as a solution is to sell IOs to people with dual builds. Money makes the pain go away.

It's possible. Granted the devs would have to care and actually implement an interface for it, but definitely possible.

Not un-similar to how you can have two gearsets in WoW. Both sets often have some of the same pieces, but other pieces are different (obviously) to accomodate different situations.

Do they have unique pieces? Can a unique glove be worn on the foot? I'd say the variety of choices of IO enhancements into 2 varied power builds is very dissimilar to gear in a traditional MMO.

I think you are underestimating how varied two builds on a character can be in CoH versus WoW.
