Why aren't we advertising?

Targeted banner ads in comic sites, RPG sites, and gaming sites. They're cheap and can be effective if targeted well.

A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

^^this. and also word of mouth, make your own shirts and wear them around, hand out those trial codes... the list of "free" the list of advertising can go on and on and on and on and on and on.....

in fact, word of mouth is how i heard about the game. being playing for the last 3 years because of it.

After watching that I think I know a bit more of the problems that CoH has with gaining and retaining new players. Our tutorial isnt very in depth, its more of a story lead-in then a this is how this game works explanation. Perhaps there should be additional optional tutorials avaiable to players via city hall in Atlas that provide a more in depth explanation of what zone events are, the various enemy groups, and other assorted things that would be confusing to new players. Maybe make a Hall of Records that acts kind of like an in game Paragon Wiki.

All I said in that post is that they are advertising it on one of the biggest gamestores there is, and provided a direct link to the advertisement.

Nothing I posted there was false and at no point in that post did I blame anything on anyone.

Maybe you should stick to trolling Power. He's more your speed.
Ummm, why don't you do a search for super hero on gamestop and see what comes up.. Then do a search for Super hero online and see what comes up..

Here done for you

http://www.gamestop.com/browse/searc...0hero%20online

http://www.gamestop.com/browse/searc...t=super%20hero

Further from what I can see.. IF they paid Gamestop to advertise, they didn't pay much.. Because the ONLY way you would find CoX on Gamestop is by actually doing what your doing and that is running a full name search..

Yea your right about me trolling if you consider me telling you your wrong.. Because you simply are..

From your analogy if I did a Google search for City of heroes that would be advertising..

End result..

That's not advertising, that's product listing. Kinda big difference. Go find me a banner ad, you

Was that necessary ?

You go out of way to belittle people..

Oh my someone is Trampling all over Forbin_Project forums.. He better put them in their place fast.. This isn't the first time I mentioned this to you.. And it won't be the last..

I am not refuting the fact that maybe they are paying to advertise on Gamestop.. As you mentioned in another thread.. How do you know.. You pay the bills for the company ? You work for gamestop advertisement department / billing dept ? Devs sent you a secret message ?

Answer is you really don't.. So your just speculating something from some quote you pulled from somewhere that you even failed to link so others can find it..

I've been fortunate to see how online advertisement works and the NUMEROUS ways that you can pay a website to spotlight your product.. Again sadly if they did pay Gamestop.. They paid for the 6 pages.. There are only 7 pages.. And of course DC online which comes out in NOVEMBER is listed before them on page 2 or 3 I believe.

You know silly me I always though ADVERTISING was suppose to be for people who didn't know about an item or product.. Hey Plainguy, you know going Rogue is coming out.. Umm, yea I know.. I see it advertised on the heroes website everyday and when I load up the game..

See its wasted advertisement on me.. Someone new yea maybe, worth something.. But we are discussing gamestop.. I don't see it advertised on gamestop.. I see it listed though..

End result unless you can actually prove they paid for advertising or can find City of Heroes on gamestop without typing in City of Heros, going rogue.

You....... Are... Wrong....

And your WRONG because you have no facts to back it up..

Next time do some research before you post.

Sorry, but you are once again incorrect. I was merely reporting what Black Pebble himself told us. You know Black Pebble, the Redname from CoH Marketing.

My forums? Hardly. I don't even browse 1% of the threads so I could never attempt to lay claim to ownership.

As you mentioned in another thread.. How do you know..
As I said before and will probably have to repeat more than once in this response to you Black Pebble the CoH Marketing Brand Manager told us in a post he made up in the News, Events & Announcement section.

You pay the bills for the company ?
No. Never claimed I did.

Quote:
You work for gamestop advertisement department / billing dept ?
No. Never claimed I did.

Devs sent you a secret message ?
Funny you should say that. While it wasn't a secret message and it wasn't a Dev. It was BLACK PEBBLE from COH MARKETING who publicly posted on these very forums the excerpts which I quoted.

For those of you who may not have seen this information, customers who place an early reserve for the City of Heroes Going Rogue: Complete Collection at GameStop will receive a Razer Sphex gaming desktop skin with a Going Rogue design, five unique enhancements and a $5 off coupon for use at the Razer store. These benefits are in limited quantities.

I would like to take this time to provide some insight as to how this initiative came about.

Why Now?

When we launched the prepurchase program, we did not plan on offering incentives for preordering the Complete Collection. A preorder program is different from a prepurchase, and we did not see a value in offering competing programs.

Since we launched our prepurchase program, we have been having discussions with GameStop, Razer and some of our other partners about new ways to promote the launch of Going Rogue. As some of you have mentioned, as a new expansion for a major MMO, Going Rogue deserves a lot of attention. We agree with you, and so did our partners. But evaluating ideas and nailing down the details took a good amount of time, which is why you haven’t heard about it until now.

Why Are We Doing This?

As you probably know, GameStop is the top gaming-focused retailer in the US. When they expressed interest in putting together this new program, it felt like a great way to get the word out on Going Rogue and to make sure every GameStop store in the country was promoting our launch.

Fine, but what about people who don’t have a GameStop nearby, or don’t shop there? That’s where Razer comes in. As part of the GR launch, Razer will be launching their own GR site, promoting CoH in all of their forums, newsletters, providing a coupon for GR customers and even designing a brand new mouse pad with our help.

So we decided to pool our resources to create one powerful marketing campaign, designed to create an opportunity that seemed so interesting that someone who doesn’t yet play CoH would be interested enough to try this game.

Translation: Plainguy doesn't know how to use the search feature. Otherwise he would have found the thread where Black Pebble made the post that I took excerpts pertaining to this discussion from. He made the post on 05-28-2010, 05:07 PM

It also appears that plainguy doesn't know that he could have simply left-clicked on Black Pebbles name and selected option three from the drop down window that reads "Find More Posts by Black Pebble"

If you think the marketing promotion with Gamestop and Razer is limited to the CoH playerbase then you really don't know what advertising is.

Already done. Just read Sharker's response where he did exactly what you request and provided links to prove it, and Black Pebble already explained in his post.

In the future plainguy it would bolster your position if you did some research before posting. With only the slightest effort Sharker and I were able to blow battleship sized holes in your argument. Doing research will not give you cooties.

Looking forward to your next attempt to derail the thread

Webcomics.

Seriously! Don't just limit to the "super hero" ones either. Go to GraphicSmash.com or Keenspot.com / Keenspace.com / ComicGenesis.com
Those starving artists would kill for a little money, and despite the apparent quality of some of these comics, they DO get a great deal of traffic.

Saturate the webcomic advertisting market! Go! Go! Go!

Again though, that's probably not the original poster's idea of "advertising"

One of the basic problems that Black Pebble has talked about before is some of the advertising opportunities players have expressed interest in... simply won't be happening. DC Comics is not about to allow a trailer for City of Heroes to be included with any Batman, SuperMan, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, etc. Production. You'd have to come up with a really good reason why DC Comics would want to "help" cross-promote a game that is a direct competitor to their own DC Universe Online.

By the same token, Marvel comics is never going to sign off on a trailer or advertisement of CoH accompanying the likes of Spider Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Avengers, or any other Marvel property.

Basically, you can just wholesale forget the entire idea of CoH being advertised alongside in-theater superhero movies, on-television superhero tv shows, and on dvd / blu-ray copies of superhero stuff from Marvel / DC Comics... which... come... on be honest here... is 95%+ of all superhero stuff released into such mediums. ...
Actually, there are ads for Marvel products in DC comics and vice versa, and I'm pretty sure ads for both in Dark Horse books, rather frequently these days. The funny thing about that, is that a higher up in DC has sworn that as long as Joe Quesada is EiC at Marvel there won't be any more crossovers between the two companies, due to some joke Quesada made against DC years ago.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.

good luck D.B.B.

yes, I'm aware the two advertise together. Just because two giants in the industry have to deal with one another though, does not mean they have to deal with what they view as a small-time competitor.

I tried that, but when I opened one, two others jumped out and broke on the floor. Then three tried to pour themselves into my glass at once, which just caused a big mess.
