Discussion: City of Heroes Going Rogue Release Date Announcement!

Posted

At least it's being released before August 18th!

I'm excited. I've been playing COH consistently the last five years (on/off since launch), and I still log in because I am amazed at how far this game has come since it launched. I remember being told power customization was a near impossibility (back burner enhancement) at one time.

So for me, each update makes the game sweeter and sweeter. Right now it's like shoving my open mouth into a mound of sugar.

Since when did the devs concede to merging the markets? Everything I've ever seen of the subject has been them saying "No. Never. Nada. Shut up, we're not doing it. Period." more or less. Did I miss something recently?

Yes, you did. Check the Dev Digest for War Witch's post, they are indeed merging the markets.

Anyways, I'm so excited now. Going Rogue comes out just in time for my B-day! Great birthday present! =P

No. The new powersets are exclusive to GR.

Can I ask a question what is in Issue 18?

Not the powersets
Not the alignment system
Not Pretoria
Not Incarnates

Hmmmmmm
New Zones?
Powerset Proliferation?

I hadn't read that they were exclusive to GR, I was under the impression that you would still be able to roll heroes/villains with the new sets (but not rogues/vigilantes). That sucks, so I have to wonder if this is true, then why even bother with releasing I18 concurrently and why not just call I19 I18?

Unless it's I18: Market Merge. That sounds catchy...

Edit: I almost forgot about the other huge long pushed aside event that is finally fixed (Don' think I can talk about it due to NDA). Maybe that will be what I18 is named?

"NCsoft and Paragon Studios are proud to announce that players will have the opportunity to walk the line between good and evil (or cross it), on August 17th, 2010 with the release of City of Heroes Going Rogue™. City of Heroes Going Rogue is the second paid expansion in the City of Heroes® franchise."

....So they are PROUD that GR is delayed? I would not exactly use that word when telling eager paying customers that a product already paid for by many is not coming out on the original date specified.

Proof that no matter what they do, someone will complain. If they'd not said anything about an anticipated APPROXIMATE release timeframe, people would have been complaining about that, too... <sigh>

They actually quoted a release date of July 26th.So if another delay is announced in early August for a PROUD September release...the August date falls under the APPROXIMATE category also? It is not that I am upset with the delay, I want GR to be polished when it is finally released. However, it is the way they are acting like this is a great announcement. Informing the customer of a delay is not something to be proud of. It feels like they are trying to sweep the July release date under the rug like it never happened.

It's better to have a delayed product that is closer to being 100% done than to release it early and it be filled with huge bugs.

Going Rogue contains Praetoria, the new power sets, the start of the Incarnate system and the side switching system - you will need to own a copy of GR to access them.
They might revamp some older content to be the main part of the free Issue though - the new Positron Tf was very well received by a lot of players., so they could be intending to fix some other troublesome content for I18.

They're proud to announce when we'll all be able to get the product.

I'd prefer a quality product over a product that is made to a deadline. Most things in life can wait and a good rep is better than a bad one. I am surprised by the deadline being so early. Not putting dampeners on anything I have seen or heard, I just from estimates would be surprised at a great product in short time.

He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

Um, you aren't supposed to mention you are in closed beta at all, if it's like other closed betas.

A revamp of the old Praetorian content in Peregrine comes to mind.

I know DS and DP are Going Rouge exclusive but are KM and EC also?

Yes - all the new power sets are only available with GR, along with the side switching system, Praetoria and the start of the Incarnate system.

No no no, devs. My birthday is on the 16th, not the 17th.

I guess I can accept you being fashionably late just this once.

We'll always have Paragon.

geeque can document, please?:

They did? When and where was that? I seem to recall that maybe that's what Amazon said, but I never saw anything from NCSoft/Paragon Studios other than July 2010 and then Summer 2010.

Dec out.

Does Amazon often invent release dates for products? Wouldn't they have to have some prompt from the supplier as to what date to put down for a release? I guess I don't work for either company, but that seems logical to me.

Not that it matters now, but I am not so sure that the initial July release date was "made up" by Amazon. I found the following quote from Examiner.com:

"NCSoft announced this morning an August 17th release date for their City of Heroes Going Rogue expansion pack. Going Rogue had been slated to release July 20."

Here is the link in case you want to check it out:

Anyways, you decide.

Stop being obtuse.

They are proud to announce their product with an official release date.

And quite frankly, video games get delayed all the time. I'd rather they delayed it than released it before it's ready.
