Does Anyone Play /Invuln?
Invuln is one of my favorite sets. Its probably the best leveling set, as its resistances and +HP from dull pain makes it relatively reliable and predictable. In the top tier game, using IO sets to bolster defenses makes it much more powerful, as then you will be layered with good HP, good resistances, and defense. Some sets can build beefier resistances, but they do not have invincibility to boost defenses.
The skippable powers are the Auto-resists and unstop, though I dont like skipping unstop because its definitely needed in heavy situations and you can learn to manage the crash half decently.
An /invuln brute is like an /invuln scrapper that can actually get something out of unstoppable.

Invulnerability is a great set right out of the box, and when you IO it out it's even better.
edit:
IOs changed everything. Inv is in a happy place due to having it's mitigation all over the place versus something like SR being a one trick pony.
Add recharge to get perma-dull pain. More dam-res to get close to the cap on S/L. More defense to add on to invincibility.
Put all those layers together and you end up with something damn tough.
And I say this while having only one /inv and she doesn't even have IOs yet. Regardless, I see the math and I've see well put together Invuls pull off some grand stuff.
Be well, people of CoH.

That data chunk is for an EM/Elec stalker....
I have been looking at doing an Invul Brute for a few weeks now, but can't decide on what Primary to take... I like the idea of Dark for the extra heal plust the -Acc, but then again I have a Fire Scrapper and love the damage he puts out!
Any suggestions or experience's people could offer?

That said, sets that provide additional, reliable mitigation will help you a lot. You see, there is one real trick about Invulnerability - it's an awesome set AFTER you have all your main tools (i.e., the three toggles and Dull Pain, at a minimum.) It is a long, LONG road to 28... actually, make that 29, when you can get Invincibility slotted. Before that point, you are going to feel very squishy.
Even after that, Psychic damage is all over the Rouge Isles. Perma Dull Pain is a great blessing for that... but stopping them from attacking is even better.
So... yeah. Super Strength, War Mace, Battle Axe, Dark Melee are all good choices. Stone Melee would be perfect... but it really needs a lot of Endurance Management to work... And Invulnerability is all ready a bit of an End Hog.
Claws is also popular, due to the (relatively) lower End costs of the attacks. Claws also benefits a lot from Recharge, so if your going for Perma Dull Pain, you won't be disappointed with the results. (The same can be said of both Super Strength and Dark Melee, for that matter.)
Yeah... so, I'll recommend Claws, Super Strength, or Dark Melee, in no particular order, followed by War Mace and Battle Axe. Just remember to try and avoid arcs that you know will be heavy in the Psychic Damage enemies. Two or three of them at once can rip any Invulnerability Brute apart as though they had no toggles running.

Thanks for the feedback OneWhoBinds, gives me some more ideas to think about, and the additional information very helpful. Thanks very much
I've tried a few /invuln and my most powerfull is still DM/invuln.
One of the most annoying thing about /invuln is the lack of any end tool. Sure you can be substainnable once you have the miracle/numina uniques and some IO bonuses, but DM lets you do it a lot sooner.
The heal is extremely usefull for invuln. Specialy on a recharge build.
I still love my SS/invuln though, since it was my first 50. =P

I have a DM/Invul as well and I paired the two together b/c I think they both would really help each other out.
My primary villian is an EM/Invul brute. He's not totally purpled out because of the sheer amount of money that'd require, but after a respec I've got him at a decent level.

That's got the build I'm using (the one that was an immediate reply to mine), biggest problem is that with EM you're AOE deficient but the Ball lightning and fences fixes that.
By the catapillars hooka you WILL smile!
Now, although it's notable that Invul doesn't have a end recovery power, it would be hard to find a defense set that uses less endurance, other than specialty sets like Regen and Willpower.

Generally, Brutes are seen as the damage dealers, not as much the tanks. You see many brutes with "offensive" secondaries, i.e. /FA, /DA, /Elec, and many who use old faithful, /Will Power.
If a brute wants to play the role of a tank, he will normally choose between /Stone and /Inv. In most cases, I see people choose /Stone, as it is easier on the wallet, and has a reputation of being very good in defense. Some would even go /WP for that, too, as everyone seems to love them some /WP.
Remember, I'm just talking about what I see in the community as a whole. /Invuln is a great set, and fairly good with minimal investment, but some players don't see it that way. Others just play a Brute to go "smashy-smashy", not noticing the primaries without a damage power.
In short, it is a defensive secondary in a predominately offensive AT.

There's nothing wrong with Invuln; it's pretty good at what it does (ignoring all smashing/lethal damage). But WP has much better endurance management, no psi hole, a more easily managed god-mode and no clicky heal to worry about and doesn't actually perform badly against smashing/lethal anyway.
OMG! How like, totally kewl are these characters?!1
Compared to what? It only has three toggles, two of which have the standard end cost (.26 EPS) and one that costs slightly less. (.21 EPS) Dull Pain has a moderate end cost and a long timer so it's not going to have a huge impact on your end use.

Inv actually does have an End Recovery power....Unstoppable.
My main character is a Stone/Inv brute, and I have loved every minute of it, since i6. With the recent buffs to Inv, he is even better.

I have on occasions used Unstop as a recovery power, in situations where I knew the extra recovery during three minutes would outweight the crash. I.e., when I knew the mission would be over within 3- minutes, or that I have a kinetic on team that is currently dead/AFK/out of mission but will be back by then and use transference on me, or simply being completely out of endurance and insps and planning to combine the insps I'll inevitably get during three minutes of fighting into blues to manage the crash.
Definitely situational uses, but I think I actually use Unstop more often for recovery than extra resistance during leveling.

With all that in mind, however, Electric and Will Power have more white bread endurance recovery powers, so Invul is still at a disadvantage.
In regards to the OP, I find Invul on Brutes to just have no middle ground. New players looking for something for a Superman type theme, but have no idea what they're doing will often pick Invul. At the same time, long time players with the skills and inf to fully IO out Invul are big fans as well. I rarely see anything in the middle, with moderate IOs and good power picks.
@Gilia1
I play heroes on Champion.
I play villains on Virtue.
I have a DM/INV scrapper and at least on that toon, I have no end issues at all despite the three inv toggles and tough and weave. In PVE, he is easily a top notch build that is frequently left standing when the rest of the team runs into a buzz saw.
I do not have Unstoppable in the build and have only the resist energies passive (it is a very tight build. Otherwise I would have the other passive).
DM allows me to recapture endurance but I use the power more for the proc I have slotted than I ever do as a need for endurance.
The toon IS slotted out very expensively but at the end of the day if I am wanting to feel unbeatable this is the toon I bring out.
He is at 44% S/L defense WITHOUT invincibility running and can get up to about 62% when in a mob. Elec/ener defense is about 40 and range is mid 20s or so I think. With the defense, some good resistance, the heal in dull pain on 115 seconds and the end recovery, with all the accolades, he is pretty impressive in PVE. By far the most I feel like a "hero" when playing.
