I Just started the Demo
In higher levels, some of them will have Elite Bosses or even Archvillains that you will need to take down.
|
The first Elite Boss you may end up encountering may be either Frostfire (heroes), or Lt. Blechley (villains), both of whom it is possible to get as early as 5. AVs start showing as early as 15 (Nocturne for heroes, and Dr. Aeon for villains. At least I think Aeon in Brass's arc can spawn as an AV if the difficulty settings are high enough and you have a full team...)
Many have said it and once again we proved it.
We have one of the best and Friendliest Forum/Game communities about. I'm sure if you ask in game to be shown the ropes a Vet would be willing to mentor you.
Lol Newby is friendlier...
Okay no addons...nice... This means I dont have to worry about another player having a leg up on me due to just having a better UI/addons... Already enjoying this game... I would like to add that the Ultra Settings are awesome, and the game has a real comic feel to it... I also love the idea of not having to LOOT everything I kill..Nice change of MMO pace..... Once again thanks for all the help, I will be purchasing the full game tonight once I get home and put the kids to bed...Looking forward to it...You guys made my decision easier... |
And, because I can't let it go, some teams of all one AT do just fine, or rediculously good. Tanker Tuesdays will show you that, though sometimes they get really slow in battle, but they can't be mezzed and they won't fall. Fire/Rad is something I've recently discovered is insane. Eight stacked Accellerate Metabolism, Char, Fire Cages, Flashfire, and Hot feet...all of this on eight toons at once. Melty melt melt.
I've also been on all scrapper teams. Effective, but all over the place. We have no discipline, as it should be.
I just started the demo, I, like many people played Wow for awhile and got tired of it, looking for something fresh... I really like COH over CO and after a couple hours with the demo I am really considering sinking my teeth into this one Any advise a veteran would give a noob who is just getting there feet wet with the game...
What can I expect from COH, do I have to worry about pugs, can it be enjoyed on a casual level... How is the PvP? Just the basic MMO questions.. Thanks for any advise, and or help.. |
CoH is a very different game from WoW. One of the biggest differences that throws people for a loop: healing is not essential. You will find very few dedicated "healers" in this game. That is because in CoH buffs, debuffs, and CC are MUCH more powerful than in WoW. Don't get me wrong, heals are nice, but not required.
Also, this is not an end game MMO. The real game does not start at the cap, it starts as soon as you log in. Leveling a character is a little slower than WoW, but the leveling experience itself is much more satisfying imho.
As others have said, try out a bunch of alts. Try every AT to see which one you like the best. Most importantly, have fun!
Well it appears I have a lot to learn, good thing is, the player base seems helpful and the Mentor resource is nice..

My thinking is, for every new thread prefaced along the lines of "I'm new to the game" or "I just started..." etc etc, there are those who are more reserved/cautious in testing the forum waters but are just as interested in finding out information on the game as newcomer.
Hopefully, they will see threads like this and understand that there really isn't much of a barrier in your way to a great gaming experience. With resources such as the Mentor Project, the community forums or any numerous individuals who have taken it upon themselves on every server to be helpful.
Again, welcome to the game!

Welcome to the game and the forums Irish!
One bit of advice I like to offer all new players:
The only way to guarantee you're always on a fun team is to form one yourself...
It's not hard at all to put a full, 8-member team together in less than 5 minutes without using annoying Blind Invites.
Here's how.
This is a quick response, sorry I do not have time to read the entire thread.
On the topic of PvP, if that is a big deal to you this game will not be your friend. I have been with this game for about four and a half years now and I have played many other MMOs. The Devs treatment of PvP in this game has been horribly subpar, do not expect a great system. Recently they overhauled the system and created an abomination where nothing works the same as it does in PvE, all powers use different numbers. Some of the worse powers in PvE, AKA Flurry, is one of the best attacks in PvP.
This game is fun, I wouldn't play it if it wasn't, but the PvP has been butchered by heavy handed sweeping changes that all decent feedback from core PvP groups was ignored.
If you are looking for a game with a rather inviting, but wildly unstable, community and great PvE content that gives you plenty to do with your character it is a great game. If you are looking for decent PvP I suggest you move on and give other games a try because you wont find it here.
No relation to Arachnos!
Part Pack: Now the majority of players know how we, PvPers, have felt for years now. Don't want to be so "civil" now that you have been completly ignored, do you?
Oh well, check the wiki. :P

Why MA ratings should be changed from stars to "like" or "dislike"
