teleport bind?

Hi guys. Can someone kindly help me with the teleport bind? I know nothing about macros but I do remember that when I last had a teleporting character (years ago) I could press left-shift + left-click to activate the power.

I need to know exactly what to type to create this.

Thankyou very much!

I use:

SHIFT+LBUTTON "powexec_name Teleport"

Then I just hold down the shift key and click where I want to go.

Actually, the way to type in the bind is:

/bind lshift+lbutton "powexecname Teleport"

If you want, you can use "powexec_name" but the underscore does nothing. Starting with the slash automatically puts you in the command bar, so you don't need to click there first.

Curious, what's the need for "+ lbutton"? I just bind lshift to tp. I tap it, the target circle appears, then I click where I'm going. Is it somehow faster to have to hold lshift down and have the command go off "all at once"? Do you get the little target circle when you do it your way.?

When you use +lbutton you're basically firing and selecting in one go, so no target circle as you say, you just TP in one action. Much easier to string them together, just keep your finger on Shift and click the mouse.

Ah, I see what you're saying. Hmmm...think I'll stick with mine, mostly because I'm used to the rhythm. Thanks for the explanation, though.

* EDIT: Oh, and perfectly understood if it's just a personal preference type thing, just wonder if I should change mine for any reason.

Well I find holding shift down and just clicking away less annoying that hitting shift then hitting lbutton. I used to have it like your set-up because I copied the bind wrong and found it much more prone to error when quick-chaining TPs

. . . and actually there is no need to include the "L" with Shift. I think there used to be a difference between lshift and rshift, but there is no longer. Either Shift is the same. But I know the bind works with "lshift" so that's how I use it -- and most right-handed people will use the left shift anyway, so there no harm.

There are some ways to set up the binds to have the white circles when you hold Shift, but those binds are complicated. The "Hold Shift and Click" is the easiest way to Teleport.

Last I checked -

Left Shift & Right Shift, the regular keys, are different.

Shift, the chord key (being used with another key), is the same no matter if it's left or right. When used as a chord, the l/r designators are ignored/edited out by the game.

Therefore, with Local_Man's way, it doesn't matter if you include l/r, either shift will make the bind work.

Decorum's way, the shift key chosen matters, although I think if he just used "Shift" it would not.

I just leave it slot 1 of toolbar 1 and hit 1 (or whatever) to tp.

Allows me to tp easily and quickly enough to not have any problems whatsoever. Never taken "hover" as an auxiliary.

Howso? As explained above, If you want to bind something to the LSHIFT key by itself, it is certainly needed, but when using it as a chord with another key, the L is ignored. This can be proved 2 different ways:

1.) Create a bind for LSHIFT+KEY, then press RSHIFT+KEY. You will notice the bind still fires even though you are using the "wrong" SHIFT.

2.) Create a bind for LSHIFT+KEY. Run a /bindsavefile and look at the file. The bind was saved as SHIFT+KEY.

Same thing happens when using ALT or CTRL. If Local had not come back and added that, I was going to.

Edit:
Thinking about this post again, I realize that BayBlast might be referring to the middle of what he quoted. As far as I am aware, the functionality of the buttons have not changed, making the statement of it changing "absolutely false"... but if that is the case, I wonder why he left the true parts of the statement in the quote.

You're right but now I realize my comment in this particular context was inaccurate since this thread, and Local_Man's comment, is about using shift with another key in a bind and not about using shift alone.

So Local_Man's statement in this context was correct.

Funny though, as I posted my original comment that little voice in the back of my mind was going are you really sure you want to say "absolutely"?...

So...

/bind lshift+lbutton "powexecname Teleport"

Is that a space before the first " ?

Thankyou very much. Sorry to take so long to reply with the thanks but i had to wait until lvl 26 to take the power just because that is how the build is working out.

I am pretty sure that last time I was activating teleport with the shift and then aiming the circle. This is much better now I don't even need to see the circle.

I am happy and grateful.
