Yup, not unusual to see a spelling mistake in an ad in a yellow pages..and yes people still use them...we get them every year...(rolls her eyes and tosses out last year's phone book).

YAY! More Entries! And I Continue to find the advertisement amusing!!

Although now I'm a tad confused about the intention. Originally I thought this was a a phone book type page, based on the color. But now, with the additional advertisements it looks more like a classifieds page, and the yellow color is throwing me off.

Did the theme change? And are there yellow classified pages I just don't know about?

To me, it looks like an old style community phone book/classified advertisement page, which the yellow would make perfect sense for.

Huron: "...with Coffee primary / Attitude secondary"
Charnage: "Please. Think of the poor defenseless desks."

"The Babylon Project was our last, best hope for peace. It failed... In the year of the Praetorian War, it became something greater... our last, best hope for victory."

Maybe I'm just being naive here, but a phonebook wouldn't typically have short term advertisements like a missing pet, or a kitty looking for a home. Or did old style community phone books used to come out more frequently than once a year so short term ads were worthwhile, or were/are classifieds typically printed on yellow paper because its cheaper?

Oh well, really doesn't matter, just curious.

Yeah, I kind of got off track there, still got a while to tweak it. The original intent was yellow pages type ads, but the one-liners turned into more of a newspaper classifieds. I'll either take them out or change to a classifieds style. We'll see.

City of Comrades - What if the City of Heroes game was created in the Soviet Union? Perhaps it'd be advertised like this. All characters belong to other people in the game. From left to right - Orwellian, Ruslana, Comrade Hero, Tanya Litvyak, Soviet Proletarian - hope you (and they) dig it.

Just put a headliner: "Paragon Times - Classifieds", then it's a paper... Still works.

I don't really know if I can qualify this as a retcon. This isn't truly a retcon to the CoH cannon, as it doesn't have anything to do with the story, but where the game was made.

Bindweed had asked me about something similar. He wanted to know if the "What If...?" covers would be what a retcon is, and I said it depended. If the "What If...?" pertained to the storyline, then yes. If it was some of the ones where it was "What If Stan Lee Created Catwoman?", then no.

I took it as if what if the story took place in the Soviet Union vs America.. Kind of like Red Son in Superman... But that's me, I can't speak for Juggertha.

edit- well I guess if the tag line was changed to reflect something like "Join the Soviet Phalynx" or seomthing and leave out the playing part it would make this seem more like how I read it.

I was curious if this would qualify but figured I'd let you rule before expressing concerns... Specially with so much time left to go.

Still, on the plus side, minor adjustment to the text in the piece to call them the "Freedom Phalynx" or such and it should be good to go... (maybe)

Juggertha specifically said "What if the City of Heroes game was created in the Soviet Union?" Not too many other ways I can take that

Well, Wassy - interestingly, that actually clarifies this month's requirement for me a goodly bit! (and I thought I had it clear in my head before) I still think the idea I'm holding in my head is correct.. but I'm gonna go ahead and shoot you a PM to ask for certain!

"Was created and took place in the Soviet Union" - was my original thought.

Kind of like an alternative earth or something.

Posted

Yeah, but an alternative earth still isn't really a retcon. Its not using anything of the story so much as the genre.

As I was dreaming this up, I kind of thought - what if the super powered peeps didn't take hold in Paragon, but rather in the Soviet Union? What if, instead of Statesman, Comrade Hero was the leader against the Rikti? What if, from the beginning, it wasn't centered around the US, but rather somewhere else?

I'm guessing that does not qualify?

Posted

That sounds qualifying, but that description isn't currently jiving with the way the piece is presented. Especially with the tagline. As-is, its not acceptable, but you've still got lots of time to play with the presentation.

This is why I made the challenge longer this month

Yeah, I kind of threw that tag line is as an after thought... as I was coming close to finishing, I was mouthing Russian accents and trying to sound like something out of a Rocky film - thought that quote sounded neat.

In Fart contest, Wassy can make you change.
