(Villains only) How evil do YOU want to be, really?
No. Because that doesn't happen in all version, but more than that, because the whole game bills the guy as the person to follow. Even after having beaten him, it STILL has you serve him in the Recluse SF.
Like I said, the original plotline may or may not have been conceived as you describe, but this most certainly fell through the cracks when it came time to actually make missions for City of Villains. It may sound like splitting hairs, but this IS the kind of tone all of City of Villains has. And besides, Time After Time is little more than (a very much appreciated) ego stroke. It'd be believable that half of his followers defected to me even if they were mindlessly devoted to him. |
The Recluse Strike Force also KILLS Ms Liberty, who is since seen meddling with gusto, so, maybe take it with a grain of salt.
Also, we agree that you may in fact be splitting hairs.
Paragon Unleashed, Unleash Yourself!
Ok, I just checked paragonwiki for the LRSF opening text:
"I have witnessed your journey through the Rogue isles. You have clawed your way to the top, performing all manner of vile act to prove yourself stronger and more capable than the rest of my Destined Ones. You have even bested one of my trusted lieutenants, a feat few have done before. In the end I thought you a liability, having used Project DESTINY to see into the future and witness a possible death of the world - my rightful domain! - at your hands. But you have a depth of villainy and strength more powerful than even I had imagined. You discovered my contingency plans and sent me a very clear warning as to what would happen if I enacted my plans, and it is something I will not forget! You know of my plans for Project DESTINY, to engineer my eventual victory by manipulating the timestreams of the future, eliminating unfavorable results until only my ultimate triumph remains! And you know the greatest threat to my goals is that epitome of foolish heroic virtue, Statesman! Statesman. Long has he been a thorn in my side, him and his legion of heroes who constantly attempt to thwart my operations at every turn. If you help me deal with the troublesome Statesman, I will asure you a place of honor in my future triumph!" |

I'm not really seeing any "treating you like" dirt there - plenty of insanity and evil - but nothing that shows he thinks you're the lowest of the low - he even goes out of his way to mention your past victory over him.

And reading that text, I find the transition odd from "Even I fear you" to "Do this and I'll promise to give you a shout out in my victory speech". Like, I don't even get that.
(Warning: Marcian Tobay has very little time for Strike Forces and has not completed this one)

That whole spider obession doesn't kinda clue you into the fact that the guy isn't quite right in the head?
|
You wanna tell me you're guy's any better adjusted? He's Stan Smith as an SS/Invuln Tanker!
(Oh, and real original making your mascot an American themed power house, by the way. Spent a reeeeeeeal long time thinkin' that one up, did ya? Like, 154 minutes? At least we mashed together Spider Man AND Doc Ock before we launched it.
You ***.)

He wants to rule the world, thinks you're evil enough and strong enough to help him, and promises you a huge reward if you help him succeed.

*Hardcase's interference at the end of Vivacious Verandi's arc.
*Daos' interference at the end of Ghost Widow's second arc.
*Just about anything from Darla Mavis.
*Just about anything from Operative Kirkland.
*Kelly Uqua's INSULTING arc.
*The Golden Roller's missions.
And that's just to name a few. The whole business with lacking actual, real Epics and having to make do with power from Arachnos is just the cherry on top. As far as I'm concerned, Arachnos can GO TO HELL! I don't want their powers. I want a real Epic like heroes get.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

Kelly Uqua is one of the most stupidly written arcs in the game. The 'big reveal' is so obvious from the beginning. I thought it would inevitably lead me to an opportunity to betray her and they even gave you an opportunity to do so when the Longbow Ballista guy pleads with you to see what she really is. But you just continue on calmly betraying the entire human race and still acting like a brain-dead lackey. It's beyond insulting. It's just stupid!
|
Do Kelly Uqua's arc. Finish it completely all the way to the end. Now check your pockets. That small, round object you feel in there is known as an idiot ball. Toss it away. Feel better now?

I honestly think this may have been written by a Rikti, because it assumes such an insultingly low level of intelligence from the players as can only come from an alien who views our entire race with contempt and scorn. Seriously, try this:

Seriously...stuff like that has got to go.
I wish I could be as evil as the best of trolls: taunting people with "choices" between unacceptable options, standing just on the right side of the rules and daring all and sundry to go one step too far in coming after me, remaining utterly convinced of my moral rectitude - and most amazingly, being able to provoke people into blind fury or utter misery despite having no actual power whatsoever over what happens to them.
That's some master-class villainy, there.

Why MA ratings should be changed from stars to "like" or "dislike"
A better algorithm for ordering MA arcs
Well, you might get new CoV misisons that let you do stuff like that, but I really don't think you should be holding out for a rewrite of the current stuff - if the devs are reluctant to even drop a few missions or arcs into somewhere like Dark Astroia to freshen it up a bit, then the chances of them rewriting the entire red side content so the contacts all call you "sir" are non-existant.
I think that the best that can happen is that they give you more arcs across the 1-50 level range where the contacts are scared of you, so you can then choose to avoid the ones who are mean to you, rather than be forced to play through them because there's no alternative.

Sorry, in my book that's still a "can't."

People keep saying this, constantly neglecting to mention what this involved - getting your villain over to hero-side, taking an Epic, waiting a week, taking that villain back to villain-side and NEVER DOING A RESPEC.
Sorry, in my book that's still a "can't." |
Going fully from one side to the other takes about 2 weeks, so to go back and forth once would take about a month - he said that was the speed for a "casual" player, but there are also cool down periods built into the side switching system to make sure it can't be done too fast.

Even more reason to unlock the PPPs and the LRSF. Locking them is DUMB. End of.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

It's about 2 weeks actually, according to Positron

The Abrams is one of the most effective war machines on the planet. - R. Lee Ermy.
Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?
A: You crash into another one.
Actually, I believe it was stated that it would take 1 week for ONE morality step. Ergo, assuming you go Villain -> Rogue -> Hero, that's two weeks. If it's Villain -> Rogue -> Vigilante -> Hero, that's 21 days. Same length of time to earn a Day Job.
Of course, one would hope that if the latter method was the one used, then you would be able to Respec in to Epic Ancillary Power Pools at the Vigilante phase, and not have to become a full Hero.
So, take a month of time, and lose the 'true Villain' badge and perks, whatever they may be, just to get access to Epic powers that aren't under the control of Arachnos? Not to mention that no matter what, we're still in a situation where it's only the Heroes that are treated as more powerful than that level one minion. The contact, any contact, can and will crush you at will should he or she so choose, and they're not afraid of making sure you know about it. Because however strong you are, whatever level you attain you are not a threat.
|
Because really, there's not really any chance they're going to rewrite all the old contacts just to please some players.
