One of my Bots/ MMs named all the pets after Rush songs. I think the AssBot is Cygnus X-1.
I see a lot of Bots named after MST3k bots. I would have used those too if I haven't seen them used so much.
Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)
One my fave MMs is based on Megaman's sister, Roll. A quick look shows ALOT of music jokes in the Megaman series, so I went with that in naming em, the 'Drones are Jazz, Classic, and Swing. The Pro'Bots are Heavy Metal, and Hard Rock. And I couldn't resist naming the Assault Bot, Big Band.
Another MM was all wrestlers, KANE, Undertaker, and Paul Bearer. Hawk and Animal. And a personal fave, The Game, Triple H. Too much Fun!

I think it's probably the single most common idea for naming T1 pets.
As for good robot names, there's a million of them. My favorite (from back when MM pets used to block doorways) was an AssBot called "DoorBlocker 3000." Also I liked the guy I teamed with whose ProtBots were called "Crow" and "Tom Servo."
Yeah, I think Larry, Curly & Moe is probably the most common/obvious name choice for tier 3 pets. My Necro has Lenny, Carl & Moe instead

edit: Oh, and for a while I had a thugs MM named Editorial Cartoonist whose pets were all named after "hot topic" issues: "Internet", "Global Warming", "Republicans", etc. The idea is that, since a typical bad editorial cartoon can be made by taking any image and arbitrarily assigning labels of hot-topic issues to the things in it, a mastermind whose pets were all so named would be procedurally generating editorial cartoons at all times.
Oddly, The three stooges never occurred to me. It seems so obvious now.
For my bots MM (who is admittedly only level 12 atm) I'm going for an office hardware theme. The bots being Fax Machine, Copy Machine and Printer for the tier 3 (Seeing as how the office I work at has a machine that does all three of these tasks I figure they are obsolete and disposable). Coffee Machine and Vending Machine give out buffs and the almighty PC does most of the work.

As for my bots:
G.L.I.T.C.H, C.L.A.N.K, F.R.A.G.G *Yes, Glitch is an... attention problem. The game even once wigged out back around CoV launch, and he attacked an arbiter drone in Port Oakes. I got vaporized for that one. Still one of my favorite stories, right next to Glitch pulling and entire 8 man map right into my lap before the aggro cap was set. That was fun.

I simply gave all 6 of my bots numeric designations (in binary of course since my villain is Lord Binary). So my assault bot is "42" in binary "101010", my T1 bots are other favorite numbers like 7 (111), 13 (1101), etc
