In Game Ad?

So I was running around with my graphics set to performance and saw this...


Then I bumped my graphic settings to quality, and it changed to this...


Found this in Port Oakes, a bit east and north of the hospital.

I've seen that burger around CoV lots of times. Don't know why it would have switched for you though when you changed quality levels.

Maybe the sign content is randomized, and was regenerated when you changed quality. As for the burger, it's not a real ad.

Are you sure that you didn't disable ingame ads in the process of changing settings? There is supposed to be a placeholder billboard for players that have ads disabled.

I remember, at CoV launch, that Arachnos billboard there. I had a bunch of my VG stand in front of it for screenshots. The burger billboard came shortly before we got real ingame ads. I believe this burger was kind of a transitional ad so that when we got real product ads, players wouldn't be like "WTH?"

That has been there for months, maybe even a year. If you come to those stairs leading up to the PO Hospital and the Base Portal, and approach them from the right, you'll see, like, 3 of them, overlapping each other...

It's a stock image. It's always been there, and crops up in all sorts of weird places red-side.

Ya after I saw it there I saw it in a few other places in Port Oakes. After I took the screen shot of the high quality I dropped it back down to performance and it was back to the burger. Wonder what else I can find different

I was told when the ads showed up a player made a thread about them with screen shots and some idiot(s) in the forums threw a bug sandgina fit about "being forced to view ads on the forums" or some such illogical immature nonsense.

There was an add for the Watchmen DVDs as well i think.

So at least one targeted ad.

Yeah, that one caught me as well, back when the in-game ads were actually running. It sure as heck looks like a BK burger to me.

I was one of the players who threw a 'fit' over in-game ads (but found any screenies on the forums informative on the topic). Yes, we've had in-game ads, past-tense, and I was reliably informed a couple of years ago that they weren't the roaring success Paragon Studios / NCSoft had hoped for. What you've pictured isn't a real-world burger ad, it's a stock image, one of many that are cycled through, usually when zoning. I guess when you adjusted your graphic settings that also caused the image to reload with a different ad.

For the record, I find the Paragon City / Rogue Isles based ads (for Arachnos or Red Beast as examples) witty, immersive and a benefit to the game. Real-world ads I find immersion-breaking and as a matter of principle I will not pay to be advertised to. My opinion was terribly in the minority, but it's still the opinion I hold to.

Luckily for me and those with similar opinions in-game ads can be turned off under Options, so if the scheme ever gains another advertiser, I won't be seeing it.
