Issue 17 Map Pack - Now Available!
Thanks to Blondeshell and Beefcake for making this! These packs make things so much easier.
So I downloaded the I17 map pack and installed it over the previous one. Still the same old maps though. I deleted all of the map files and started the game without them, only to see the same old maps again, even though their files were deleted and the game restarted. After that, I installed the new map pack again and verified all of the game files before launching, still nothing, getting the same old pre-I17 maps. I have no idea how to proceed further.
Has anyone been having similar problems, and does anyone have any idea what am I doing wrong?

Which directory do you have City of Heroes in?

Got Win XP, installing in the right directory. Checked many, many times. C:\Games\City of Heroes, if it's of any value. Have C:\Games\CoHtest too, but wasn't touching that one at all.
EDIT: European installer, for what it's worth.
One thing that many people over look, and its easy when Test/Live are the same version, is that when you install the test server, the icon on the desktop to CoHUpdater.exe gets replaced, and routed to the CoHTest folder. Make sure that you are indeed running the updater from City of Heroes, and not CoHTest.

Once again, the editors of the Issue 17 Map Pack have outdone themselves!
It was fun trying to help out getting the badge locations and info out during closed beta with you guys via in-game and the closed beta forums (which nearly all the time, just as I found a location, you'd have it posted in the forums :-P).
Regardless, thanks so much for your efforts and the fantiastic work you continue to do! THIS is what I love about our community; helping each other in things like this!

Just a quick, "thanks for the work that was done for the map pack!"
First time I've installed it and it was much easier than looking at the /loc coords (I hate the coord system! )
I will say though I do not like the sewer mission maps. Other than that, all is good.

Only two things I can think of is that you are installing the maps to the wrong directory or you are running Vista/Windows 7 and need to run the program (map pack) as an admin.

Check if there is a C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\Data directory. I know it isn't in your CoH directory, but it might have got confused. If that directory does exist, copy it to your actual game folder.
|
Erm, I do have a C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\Data, and that's where I've put the new map files (\textures\maps and vmaps). C:\Program Files\City of Heroes is where my game is.

When you responded to my question of where you had the game, you said:
C:\Games\City of Heroes |
C:\Program Files\City of Heroes |

The best thing to do is make sure which directory your game is installed to. The installer should locate the default directory for you. If you install it someone else it may not work correctly.
But if you did install the game to C:\Games\City of Heroes you will need to make sure you direct the installer to that directory.
Once you've done that, you need to double check your Shortcut on your desktop to see if its pointing to the correct directory as well. You can do this by right clicking your COH Icon on your decktop and then go to properties.
Look in the Target Field and make sure it is pointing to the same directory you installed the game and the Map pack. They should both be the same directory.
From what you've said it seems you have 2 directories with the game installed, so you need to make sure you install to the current directory your Shortcut is pointing to.

I'm glad that the new map pack is out! Means many more Badges to find! Now, if The Devs would just do up some of the plaques that we not only cannot read as readable, but that all the plaques in any part of the game world are made to become parts for more Badges!
Try my 3 MArcs: I.D.#67166:Protect the Artifacts!! I.D.#97724:Level-Up Time. I.D.#243803:Witch War! Salem vs. Croatoa!
The new badges don't seem to be appearing on the vidiotmaps online site (i.e., if one doesn't download them). I assume they will be posted eventually, for those of us not downloading the map pack?
Thanks for all the work you guys do.

Ok, first you say that installing, uninstalling, and then reinstalling doesn't do anything.
When you responded to my question of where you had the game, you said: Now you are saying that it is: So which is it? |

I have checked the shortcut I'm using to run the game, it points to C:\Games\City of Heroes\cohupdater.eu.exe.
When firing up the mappack installer, it doesn't detect the game folder at all.
New maps still not working. I deleted my C:\Games\City of Heroes\data\texture_library\maps and \v_maps folders and installed the mappack to C:\Games\City of Heroes several times again, and still no luck.
The interactive maps were updated just before I17 went live, but the print-out maps are still in the progress of being updated and overhauled. If you're talking about the in-game maps showing on the site, those haven't been updated. I should still be able to get them up, but I'm pretty sure they won't be carrying over with the BadgeHunter site redesign that's in the works.

Sorry for the confusion. I have my game located in C:\Games\City of Heroes. I do not have the folder C:\Program Files\City of Heroes, I wrote that by mistake when I was meaning to write C:\Games\City of Heroes instead. The only other installation of CoH besides that in C:\Games\City of Heroes is my test installation in C:\Games\CoHtest but I haven't touched that one at all.
- Exit out of the game completely.
- Check if the test installation has the \data\ directory.
- If it doesn't proceed to next step, otherwise rename it to \data1\
- Run the mappack, but point it to the test installation (C:\Games\CoHtest)
- Copy the \data\texture_library\maps and \v_maps folders to your regular CoH directory (C:\Games\City of Heroes)
- Run your regular CoH shortcut.
This should work. Test it.
Now, exit the game completely. Go to your test directory (C:\Games\CoHtest). Remove the \data\ directory. Try running your regular game again. If it still works, bonus! Ignore the next step.
If, as I suspect, your shortcut's properties isn't configured right, the map patch should be "gone". Go to the shortcut that you use to launch the game. Make sure that the Target and Start in fields point to your live game folder (C:\Games\City of Heroes).

Ah, it's mostly the "print out" maps I use, since I can scan with my eyes far faster then my machine can load the little interactive labels. Thanks, good to know those are eventually going to be current. I'm not complaining about the time either; you guys do good work for what I pay you. :P

The new map pack is awesome, I was able to get all the new exploration badges, and the zone accolades...
1 Question though- while I was rabidly badging the last couple days, I decided to finish off a few history badges as well. Apparently, though, the old Academic badge in the Abandoned Sewer Network is no longer there. I went down with 2 different chars on Virtue, and where there used to be a plaque about Nemesis, there is blank wall. Anyone found it yet?

I clicked the "Help>Check for Updates" and upgraded to 5.1.0.0, and now everything is working fine again. I'm not sure which site you use to track your badges, but the new version is updating Badge-Hunter correctly for me now.
