Hmm I'm probably waaaay behind the times but has anyone noticed that since the reappearance of the 5th Column on the streets that the 'Broken Column' movie poster has disappeared and been replaced by 'Psychadelic heroes' poster (tagline: Two heroes with one funky purpose).

Just thought people should know if they didn't...it's the little things that keep me playing this game.

I hadn't noticed that yet. It's about time really, Paragon hasn't had a new movie playing since that guy won what... 2 or 3 years ago now!

As an aside, what happened to ingame ads? I actually enjoyed them but now they seem to be gone.

To be fair I think the actual revenue bought about from the the ingame ads compared to what was required (they had to be fitting with the game) meant that it just wasn't cost effective for the Ad companies to advertise in CoH especially if the players can just turn off the adverts.

The first US add was a disaster (The Jetter shoe advert) and actually got more scorn because it was:
A) A rubbish advert (just a picture of a shoe) that looked like a Jpeg picture had just been slapped over the normal adverts.

B) Had none of the filters that were promised to be applied to the adverts (Rogue Isles adverts are all covered in a layer of grime for example, the advert looked pristine even when in a destroyed apocalyptic future enviroment aka Boomtown). Which made it REALLY stand out in a bad way.

C) Freaking EVERYWHERE, you'd often find 4 or 5 of them all within 200 yards of each other. So it felt really overdone and in your face in a bad way.

Paragon Studios recieved a lot of schtick for that one and I remember several threads openly mocking the advert on the forums (which I suspect was one of the reasons that the adverts got pulled, people were laughing at them most of the time for being fairly ill-fitting choices). The last advert I saw was the EU 'Babylon AD' advert which showed they'd finally got it right as it actually looked like a proper poster, as to just a picture slapped over the normal advertising.

So player base backlash, a truly rubbish first example, people being able to turn them off and general mocking meant the death of adverts.

That movie poster isn't a replacement. It's been part of the rotation since they were put in. Diff theaters have diff posters, and they may randomly cycle, but there haven't been any new additions in years.

I still want one of those drill-destroying locks that they advertise in Port Oakes.

Time for another movie poster competition then!

Numina, Hunting Phase -- Council in Boomtown.

Everytime you find a crowd of council, there is an opposing crowd of Fifth Column, they are very evenly matched, and have a huge antipathy for each other, so they instantly kill each other. It's now quite difficult to 'defeat 20 council' because each spawn might only result in 2-3 defeats of council (and lots of Fifth Column, which doesn't count). This makes the Boomtown Hunt much more arduous than it once was.

qv Vahzilok in Faultline -- when the new faultline map was introduced, it restricted Vahz to night-time only, forcing a 20 minute wait for the Numina hunt. They fixed the night-time only part, but Vahz are now few and far between, finding 20 of them is difficult.

At least the Numina TF no longer features the dreaded Atrium (Cake, Pancake, Layer-cake, whatever you want to call it) and now has a Troll Cave for the end mission instead of the CoT cave with the Atrium. That level needs to -cease to exist-, it's just horrible when you get a 'defeat boss and crew' spawning in there, and you have to clear the -entire- Atrium instead of just the spawn the boss was in. I've always thought that they should use the billboard advertising system to advertise AE arcs. Whether it be by an in-game rental service, or by winning one of several top places in a competition. Maybe even Devs' choice arcs or something.

I don't recall there ever being a movie poster for Broken Column, just the marquee was changed.

The problem could be addressed in one of two ways -- adjusting the randomizer so that the chances of getting an all-5th or all-Council spawn are higher, or to divide the area where they spawn in two, one where only 5th Column spawn and one where only Council spawn (i.e., give the 5th Column the SW part of the zone where the Council/5th spawns are now, and the Council , and the Council the NE part of the zone where the Council/5th spawns are now). The Council has already become the Warriors of Steel Canyon, getting beat up by the 5th Column virtually everywhere I see a mixed spawn; we don't need to see it again
