After 8 hours of leaving it run, this is what I'm looking at now.

Yeesh! Two days left on fixing the client post download for new sound? Did John Williams rescore the whole soundtrack?

I can't get into test at all myself. Freezes upon opening the Updater. My live game works, so I'm not going to pry any further... if it works two days from now, I'll try again. If not, I'll see it all once it's live.

I love how we still have no idea why it's happening or how to fix it. I've tried seventy different ways to juryrig it to work, but nooo. :| And I was so excited for the open beta, which is rare. Now I'm feeling kind of 'meh'.

Question, JayboH: Before it started "fixing" the files, did you get a pop-up with an error about something like C:\Program Files (x86)\CohTest/cohupdater.exe? Notice the / in the path, which should be a \ instead?

I had that happen when the Dual Pistols CB started, and I'm running a Win7 64-Bit machine. I closed the patcher, and restarted it, and it started verifying and fixing files. I left it running for 2 or 3 hours before I got royally pissed, and went to bed. When I woke up the next morning, I checked it before I left for work, and it was still fixing. When I got home, it was finished, and I was able to log on to Test just fine until the I17 CB.

When the CB started, I got the exact same error. This time, though, I just let the updater sit there, with the error box on the screen, for about 10 or 15 mins. I don't remember what they were, but the box had 2 options. I think one was to continue. I did that, and it started verifying and fixing the files without me needing to restart, but it also took maybe 30 mins. to do.

If you can, just leave it running with nothing else running for as long as you can. It should eventually fix itself. Eventually. :|

Mine has the slashes right. I've tried all sorts of things like copying my entire CoH directory and pointing the updater to there, the steps everyones said, etc, Nothing works and it's pretty frustrating noone has an answer, I was really looking forward to testing the new graphic settings and DSing =/

No, I get no errors or any pop ups of any kind, unless I try from scratch of course, when it asks where to install it.

Apparently this is a new common problem with Issue 17. Issue 16 was no problem for me.

Oh good, I'm not the only one.

I've never had trouble getting on the test before. Nothing is working, it just "fixes" stuff forever. Sigh, guess I'll just wait for it to come out on live.

WARNING: This post is slightly technical. If you aren't a net geek it is likely to make your eyes bleed. Proceed at your own risk.

In trying to trouble shoot the speed issue last night I was poking around in my router. I noticed that the packets were being identified as Teredo packets. Teredo is a tunneling protocol which embeds IPv6 packets in UDP packets for transmission over an IPv4 network, such as the Internet.

This identification was, presumable because of the fact that it was using UDP packets on the ports typically used by Teredo. It got me thinking though, so I decided to stop the "IP Helper" service, which is a service which runs under Windows 7 which allows you to use Teredo and other protocols to implement new IPv6 technologies over the internet. I figured the problem may be a problem with conflicting ports, in which case stopping the service should remove any confusion and allow things to move along smoothly.

Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case. Stopping the service had no effect on the download speed.

Not sure if it'll help, but here's what I did. I copied everything in the CoH folder except the updater, .exe, and checksum. I then pasted those copies into the CoH Test folder, overwriting anything there. It still took several hours to update, but it did happen within six hours. It also meant I didn't have to download every patch from launch till current on live for Test either. Just have it update the files that need updating (and install the updater).

Will do, might as well hit this from every angle. This is apparently happening to more than a handful of people.

Last time I check, I'm still stuck at the DL phase, that's not even advancing to the "fixing files" part. I forgot to start the DL before I went to bed - but did get up around 3AM and remembered that I meant to do so. By 8:30AM i was still at 6+ hrs of DL left, but had progressed to 60-70% of DL. I'm gonna try DLing while I'm at work and we'll see what happens.

Vista machine 64 here btw.

i sent in a report as well that basically what i have done so far

Problem with test updater

first: Live is fine it will update just fine nothing wrong

now here is the bug report everthing was fine up too where im installing project coh test it goes into fixing files mode.

Before I deleted the game test worked good
after stuck at fixing files

the first step I took was to install coh on to my other drive after that I delete my coh off the first drive I should point out that I had NO problems with live install at all.

Second step I done was to reinstall the updater and that is where everything went down hill fixing files 150 hours.

Third step: I deleted and reinstalled everything again no problem with live just took a little more time back to the same fixing files etc

four step: I deleted my test folder and then remade the folder dumped live into the test folder and now im setting at 40 hours instead of 150

Maybe you should go work for NCsoft?

Seems like I've already read this post somewhere before..... hmm?

His problem is completely unrelated anyway. This is not about how much the test server is getting hammered right now.

Create a character on Pinnacle.

They say alcohol is the Devil's brew, so it must be what makes Demons. Right?

Wouldn't that fit with Pinnacle being the drunken server?

And at least I now know it's not just my system that is having a tantrum! Won't go so far as to say I feel better, but at least I'm not alone and now I have suggestions! Yay!

You should delete all the CoH test server folders.
Next, in your main City of Heroes directory make a copy of CoHUpdater.exe and rename that to CoHUpdater.eu.exe. Run the .eu version once to update it to the European version (dont worry, the US version is still working), close it after it is updated.

Update the european version to the test version like it is explained in How to access the Training room (EU)

If you fire up the normal CoHUpdater.exe -test shortcut, install it in the same directory of the EU test version it should go quite a bit faster. The updater is still quite slow but should cost around the 5 minutes (a bit better then 100 years )

Hope it helps the lot of you.
This actually worked for me. Once the EU updaters went through it fixed everything in about an hr and then i could us the US's updater to login!

OMG that worked! WoW you rock man thanks so much for posting that!

edit: I forgot to add that it is still going to take a long time to DL this patch for some people maybe 5 hours, but yes it IS working albeit slowly, yet WAY faster than the US which well, doesn't seem to be working at all.

edit: just another update that it is still working. I only have 45 min left now until it is done, so yes it IS a working "work around".

Did the above, and so far it doesn't look good. Here is a shot, showing the EU version and what it has been doing for the last 15 min:

EDIT: it just went into 'Downloading File Manifest' again and it is fixing the exe yet again.
