Fixing Files: cityofheroes.exe repeats forever

I wonder what would happen if someone uploaded their whole 3 gig test server folder minus their screenshots and settings and I tried to run it. Anyone willing to give it a try?

Hey, I'm getting this for a brand new install of the game. About a week ago, I downloaded the game for my main PC with no problem. However, my main computer just died today and I'm stuck with my back up HTPC to use. So, I decided to do a fresh install of win7 ultimate on my comp and install the game. I get the exact same issue as the OP. I can not install. It hangs up after getting about 8MB down. I've tried the suggestion of using the EU server but it does the same thing there as well. I can't install the game at all right now.

Hi guys i was wondering if Window 7 had the same problem cause i downloaded city of heroes game client and the update did the same forever stuff on my window XP so i bough window 7 in the nearest store and i am about to install tomorow

Ive confirmed that it working i just installed Window 7 last night and i managed to install and update City Of Heroes

I uninstalled MS Security Essentials and also put my PC in the DMZ on the router, to try and eliminate those possibilities. Same thing.

Happens on all 4 computers in the house.

It's back...

Last night It worked fine. Today it keeps trying to fix the cityofheroes.exe file.

Windows Vista Home Premium

Live works fine.
UAC turned off.

I started to have this issue so I deleted the checksum file, issue persisted.
I tried deleting just the .exe it won't let me
I copied everything but the .exe to a place holder on a different drive.
I tried deleting the entire folder, everything deletes but the .exe

I tells me I do have permission to to do anything to folder. I can't even change the name.

Reboot your PC into Safe Mode, and delete or move the file. Then, reboot normally.

had to start in safe mode with networking and start the game with windows in safe mode and it updated fine and now works.

Thanks Kheld for the reminder I had to do that the last time.

EDIT: now it updates fine but won't actually launch the game. back to square one.

Will it launch if you go use WinKey+R, and enter "C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project Coh with the correct path to your CoH folder?
