    Fire/Ice

LOL you and me both. I have not played in about the same time and came back to my 38 fire/ice tanker.

Had to respec because it was terrible.

This is sort of what I am thinking I am going to go with. Unfortunately, I have zero clue about the set stuff and am just now trying to figure out what I want to get with that. Which may change the whole thing over again. However, with just SOs and basic IOs this has been working fine.

  2. Hey, I'm getting this for a brand new install of the game. About a week ago, I downloaded the game for my main PC with no problem. However, my main computer just died today and I'm stuck with my back up HTPC to use. So, I decided to do a fresh install of win7 ultimate on my comp and install the game. I get the exact same issue as the OP. I can not install. It hangs up after getting about 8MB down. I've tried the suggestion of using the EU server but it does the same thing there as well. I can't install the game at all right now.
  3. Okay, I recently came back to the game after being away for about 4 years. Anyhow, I started last week on my main computer and had no problems downloading and installing the game.

However, today, my main computer died as a cap popped on my motherboard. I'm still in shock over that since it was my Asus Rampage X58 Extreme II board. Anyhow, I have a second system that I just put a fresh install of windows 7 on. I was going to load the game up on that instead while I wait for the RMA but I'm running into a problem.

I download the "updater" program to start installing the 2.8GB for this game. However, when the updater gets to about 8MB to 9MB downloaded it just hangs. It won't download anymore. I've killed it and restarted and it gets stuck on the same part. I've tried unstalling and going back to a previous restore point and nothing works.

Here's my DX diag if it makes any diff

This was PM'd to me by a user who got the info from Pohsyb.
    .
The streakbreaker will force a hit if there has been a long series of misses (only for heroes)
    .
ACC / Length of miss streak before we force a hit
    >90 / 1
    80-90 / 2
    60-80 / 3
    30-50 / 4
    20-30 / 6
    10-20 / 8
    1-10 / 100
    .
The random number is calculated simply by the C stdlib rand().

    [/ QUOTE ]
Of course if you examine that chart closely then what you said originally would be accurate for even cons with no special defense.

If the allowable number of misses for a 60-80% accuracy is 3 then that certainly fits the original comment, since the chance to hit an even-con is a base 75% for players. I assume the chart was purposely made simplistic for convenience. Obviously it can't be referring technically to the player's "accuracy" in a vacuum, but to the players final chance "to hit" after all of the variables are accounted for such as force fields, bonus defense, buffs, level differences, and so on.

So, if you for example were fighting a +3 Rikti Drone or Death Mage (both of which have notoriously high defense), then it is quite probable that you would have to miss more than the 1-3 times it would be if it was purely based on your power's beginning accuracy before the streak breaker forced a hit. Apparently he said "accuracy" meaning "final chance to hit".

That makes perfect sense, is a reasonable way to do it, and seems to line-up with my own arguably subjective experience.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That chart isn't quite correct either (missed the 50-60 range). It's actually:

    Final to-hit : misses allowed
    >.9 : 1
    .8-.9 : 2
    .6-.8 : 3
    .4-.6 : 4
    .3-.4 : 6
    .2-.3 : 8
    0 -.2 : 100

You're correct, it's the final to-hit chance (in the range [0.05 .. 0.95]) of an actual executed attack against a specific target.

Auto-hit powers are not included in the system.

Critters get the benefits of the system as well.

The system does not track each power individually; instead it tracks every miss you make in a row, regardless of power (or target). Otherwise you could have nine different powers, each with a 0.95 to-hit, and if you executed them all in a row you could miss each attack (note a caveat at the bottom of the post regarding this).

AE attacks are considered distinct sequential attacks on indivudual targets for the purpose of the system (so if you AEd two targets and had 0.95 to-hit for both, you be guaranteed to hit one of them).

To determine the to-hit used in the table above, you take either the current to-hit, or the worst to-hit in your current miss series, whichever is lower.

As an example, imagine that your first attack of the day had a final to-hit chance of 0.91, but missed. Therefore you are currently in a miss series of length 1, with a minimum to-hit of 0.91.

For your next attack you choose to use an auto-hit power. It is ignored for the purposes of the system, so you are still considered in a miss series of length 1 with min to-hit of 0.91.

For your next attack, you use a normal attack with a final to-hit chance of 0.95. Since the worst to-hit of the entire series is 0.91, and 0.91 (miss series) < 0.95 (current attack), you find 0.91 in the table. The table states you are only allowed one miss, and so this attack is forced to be successful. The attack lands, and your miss series tracking is reset.

However, imagine that instead your last attack was less accurate, or you attack a different target which has more defense; lets say the final to-hit is 0.89 instead of 0.95. In this case, 0.89 (current attack) < 0.91 (miss series), so you have to use 0.89 when you look at the table. In this case, you are allowed two misses in a row, and therefore the attack is NOT forced to hit.

If you hit anyway, your miss tracking is reset.

If you do in fact miss (unlucky you), you are now in a miss series of length 2, with a min to-hit of 0.89. If your next attack has a final to-hit of 0.80 or higher, it will be forced to hit (because you're only allowed two misses). If the next attack has a to-hit less than 0.80, then it hits or misses like normal, and so on and so forth.

Something to note, for those inclined to note such things. Because we do the lookup based on your worst to-hit in the series, the streak breaker is a bit less aggressive about breaking streaks than it might initially appear from the table. If you miss an ill-advised attack with a final to-hit of 0.15, you would in fact be allowed to continue the miss series for another 99 attacks, even if all the followup attacks are of capped to-hit, should you be unlucky enough.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay now based off that chart

How can I make a NEW character, run up to PRISONERS in breakout and miss 10 times in a row?

Explain that one please. If you need a fraps recording I will be HAPPY to provide this proof.

    Accuracy

    [ QUOTE ]
This "test" doesn't prove anything unfortunantly. You haven't included any data about what you were attacking or what buffs and debuffs were being applied. You took a recording of your normal play style and that just doesn't produce any kind of result that can be used to determine that "accuracy is fubared".

If you want to do a test that has some validity, go test 100+ brawls against the same kind of even con, +1, and then +2 mobs. That would produce test data that actually means something, its boring as hell, but thats what predictable data sets are all about.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Incorrect, look again at how many Accuracy SOs I have. THREE. Do I need to repeat myself yet again?? THREE. What does 3 accuracy SOs do? Add directly to your accuracy 95%. This means I have a chance to hit a +0 vanilla minion at 170%. Which means I get above the 95% cap so I'm effectively put at 95%.

As for what I typically fight... here it is.

    Freakshow
    Raiders
    Longbow
    Carnies
    Lost
    Rickti
    CoT

That is what I fight typically in those level ranges.

The one and ONLY time I have trouble with my accuracy as I noted during playing was against GHOSTS from the CoT. They are bugged. They can stack their own debuffs on you and if you get a bunch on your butt you might as well stand there. You aren't going to hit any of them with multiple stacked debuffs to your accuracy by multiple mobs. Now, 1 or 2, I pop 2 or 3 yellow pills and I'm OKAY again to hit those guys. Or normally, I just wait them out and let team members with range attacks take them out. I stay as far away from Ghost as possible.

That being said, only the sky raiders have a "defense" bonus and that's when the force field generators drop. Since I'm usually the first to go in, I ALWAYS prevent the engineers from dropping those. I pick out the engys right away and go striaght for them.

My tests are very valid because I was doing EVERYTHING I could do to maximize my chance to hit. This included staying away from obvious defensive npcs (such as force field generators) and Tsoo. And trying to stay away from accuracy debuff guys, like Tsoo and CoT. Unfortunately, the CoT are too proliferate amoungst missions for CoV to avoid them. Around 15 to 40 as far as I can tell, you are going to be fighting CoT as a villain were as my CoH toon never had to fight a CoT past level 30.

As I stated, with +95% chance ALL THE TIME added to my base accuracy AND using soul drain + yellow pills as often as I could, I should in no way have less then a 95% chance to hit on average. However, I did. Care to try and fabricate more fictional reasons as to why my numbers show what they do?

PS: on a side note, before hero stats came out LONG ago, I did those tests. I was the original person that FOUND the accuracy problems back before I2 with many attacks. I would do 5000 attacks of the same type on vanilla mobs to prove it. With herostats, there's no reason for me to endlessly waste hours of my time testing what the Cryptic should have caught in the first place. With herostats, I can still set my character to MAXMIZE one stat in every shape and way possible. If I can't get that maximum despite what all the numbers say I'm "SUPPOSE" to be at then something is wrong! Flat out wrong!

PS PS: Also, Castle just recently said there was an accuracy problem with cone attacks and the bug was fixed internally and will make it to live soon. That should help with Shadow Maul, since that was specifically stated by Castle as broken when he tested it. However, that doesn't address other problems with ALL attacks in general.

    Accuracy

    [ QUOTE ]
Consonants - I'm just wondering what you've been fighting...because if something you're fighting has +def that can make a difference.

Lets go for some rounded numbers to make it easer and assume 3 Accuracy SOs are +100%

So. You have a Base ToHit of 75% vs even con * 2
150% capped to 95% to hit.

If you fight something with 25% def that becomes
    75% - 25% = 50% * 2 = 100% capped to 95% to hit.
(This is your base point for PvP)

If you fight something with 50% def that becomes
    75% - 50% = 25% * 2 = 50% to hit.

Not saying that anything's not bugged, but just take into account that Accuracy enhancements aren't necessarily all that they seem in some situations.

(nb. Same if anything debuffing your accuracy. That comes off the base same as your foe's Def.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOOK, it doesn't matter, I have a base accuracy of 75% to hit even con minions. With 3 SO accuracy enhancements I add +95% to my accuracy on ALL my attacks. NOTHING I fight within 4 levels of my current level, with one bugged exception, can drop my base chance to hit with accuracy SO's below 95%.

ON TOP OF THAT, I'm using soul drain all the time. This adds even MORE accuracy to all my attacks.

Now I do both solo and team missions. I try to stick with team missions and big teams because they are more fun and if done right faster on exps. My data is inconclusive about the validity of solo accuracy versus team accuracy because I was not testing specifically for that. It's too mixed up on what I did. I would have to do a few days of soloing only and teaming only for a proper comparison. However, the fact remains, SOMETHING IS ROTTEN IN DENMARK.

Now, i will say this. FRIKKING COT ghosts suck!!! I had a GREEN Nerva Spectral Demon Lord, which means it's a -3 Lt, FLOOR my accuracy. I never fight CoT solo. NEVER. I can't kill them if there are ghosts. Why? Stupid monsters can stack their own debuffs when they aren't suppose to. That stupid GREEN ghost put Chill of Night, Smite, Midnight Grasp, and Shadow Punch for debuffs all on me. My attacks don't debuff like that. If I use smite and midnight grasp there is only ONE debuff applied. It's stupid ghosts can floor your frikking accuracy with 3 SOs. I had to pop 4 yellow pills to hit the damn thing once and still turn into a whiff fest. Someone from my team had to come over and mop it up.

So against CoT, I just rush in, use soul drain and dark consumption REAL fast, and then stand there with death shroud. No use wasting endurance on attacks that are going to miss. That probably explains why my accuracy on Death Shroud goes into the toilet that one day at less then 70% attack rate. I was fighting a few extra CoT then normal. However, I really try not to ever fight them. Usually, I don't if there is ghosts around. Luckily I didn't fight any Tsoo during those levels either. I haven't fought Tsoo at all since level 16 and only fought them twice. I hate those sorcs with hurricane and stay away from them at all costs. If I get on a 8 man team and a Tsoo mission pops up, I find a reason for me to be absent, like "SG mates are calling, got to go!" or "Dinner calls!"

I absolutely refuse to fight Tsoo with a melee character. I'm about to do the same thing with CoT. At least you can fight CoT without running into ghosts sometimes. You can't avoid sorcs when you fight Tsoo though.
  7. Consonants

    Accuracy

Okay.. I've been running hero stats for the past week and collecting data over a substational amount playtime on 1 character for 4 days. Days I played an alt, I am not posting that data for since the alts never got past level 10

Each day, I've played a total of 8 to 14 hours a day. Yah, I got too much free time. Sue me.

Anyhow, during this time I've manage to go from level 20 to level 33. Not to shabby. I've been checking my accuracy the entire time. Before I get into posting results let me explain what I am. I'm a DARK/DARK brute. I use the following powers for attacking with:

    Smite
    Shadow Maul
    Boxing
    Death Shroud
    Dark Consumption
    Soul Drain
    Midnight Grasp
    Brawl

Now admittedly, when I first got a power, like soul drain at 26 and Midnight Grasp, those powers I could slot with 1 ACC SO only at first. However, that was the first thing I did everytime. I also turned off hero stats during that time UNTIL I could put some extra slots into the power the next level.

Also, here's another fact. EVERY SINGLE POWER MENTIONED ABOVE, except brawl, HAS THREE ACCURACY SOs. That's right THREE. No more, no less. There is ZERO possibility of being less then a 95% change to hit unless I try to hit anything over +8 mobs.

Now during this week, I have NOT once tried to fight anything above 4 levels above me. I usually stick with -1, 0, +1, and +2. Usually in the +1 range. With 3 ACC SOs, I should have a 95% chance to hit ANYTHING that is +1 to me. Also for the first day of testing when I was BELOW the level 22 cap I was using 5 slots of DO accuracy in all my attacks which in effect will put me at the 95% cap on accuracy for all my attacks up to +6 mobs which I never fought. Oh, brawl is only 1 slotted, so at 20 and 21 it had 1 DO, and after 22 has had 1 SO the entire time.

We all agree on that right?

So shall I copy and paste my log findings into here? Bleh, I'll just type them and then if anyone wants me to email the actual herostats logs I will. My only regret is that Herostats doesn't correctly record Shadow Mauls accuracy. It does record activations and number of misses so I have to look into it's log to manually do the calculation by hand. I will put those numbers here. Because some of the numbers may look quarky, I'll pos number of uses. Some days I didn't use a certain attack for some reason very much.

So, what's the conclusion to all those numbers??? ACCURACY IS FUBARED!!!!!!!!!!!! I should be close to 95% on almost all those numbers except maybe brawl. However, even with 1 SO in it only, brawl should NEVER go below 70%. Brawl is completely screwed up for a whiff fest. I still have no idea why death shroud one day decided to take a break in the HIT department.

Why should I be at around 85% to 90% accuracy on average for my attacks with THREE accuracy SOs when fighting anything close to my level range? I'll continue testing and running hero stats daily, but the trend is already there. Accuracy is not being calculated right. And yes, a difference between 85% and 95% can mean a WHOLE LOT. It's not just perception. Yah, with 85% accuracy, people don't think they are missing alot, and they aren't since 85% means they'll hit more then half the time.

Can ANYONE here come up with a valid argument as to why my numbers show accuracy is not right??? Please, please please. You guys said you wanted proof. Here's proof. Read it and weep. I know I did.

The main reason it was a bug, not only would you miss, but you wouldn't even get the MISS above your target's head.

Yes, the power would effectively do nothing.
Take a look at this combat log demonstrating the bug: Picture!

Electron Haze is a cone power, and as you can see, I activated it without it doing a thing. There's nothing between the text informing me that I activated it and the text informing me it's recharged.

If you're actually missing (complete with combat log representation), then that's not a bug.

Hrmmm... I understand that, but I've only seen that happen with ranged cone attacks, not melee cone attacks. Yet Castle explicitly stated he tested MELEE cone attacks to find the bug. Seriously, I've never seen melee cone attacks activate and not do anything.

As for the range ones, The only time I get that is if I click on smething at the very edge of my range and hit the cone right as it moves away. OR sometimes it lets me click when I know the range is just a tad too far. That's the bug your experiencing. It's a latency issue. Your client thinks it's okay to activate the skill, tells the server, I'M USING IT, but the server goes, wiat a second there is nothing there to activate on. So instead of your client not activating, you do and you get nothing for the effect. That's how I've always seen the range bug your talking about.

Let's get this straight, what MR Quizzles is reffering to is not a MISS bug but a failed ACTIVATION bug. Two seperate issues. A MISS bug means it has something to do with accuracy and missing attacks not attacks failing to activate properly.
  9. HAHA, I'm playing my 25 brute on relentless missions solo. I'm fighting some lost, I don't think my health was ever above 20% after the first few fights the entire mission. I was hitting any and every inspiration as it landed in my tray and just kept right on some SMASH!ing mutate tail. Hrmm, 20% health, oh look full fury!!! I think I got an inspiration... hrmm I see a purple Prelate Pariha, a red Anathma, and a orange Mutate Buckshot. Bleh, just run in an hope one of those big swords doesn't one shot me.

Funny thing, I didn't die that whole mission Kept getting the inspirs I needed to keep on chugging and dropping.
