I don't get it, how do I fix this issue? Running Win 7. I was trying to update the CoHTest which I haven't touched since I got Win 7 on launch day.

Try just deleting the file it's getting hung up on. Also delete any "coh.checksum" file in your installation folder.

Also, try either doing it under "Run as Administrator" or turn off UAC for a short while.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

It's weird, I can delete the entire folder and try to redownload the whole thing, and it just keeps 'fixing city of heroes.exe' or whatever. Argh.

It eventually stops and says 'Downloading File Manifest' again and then goes to fixing the exe all over again. By the way, do I need to get the updated downloader that says US on it?

Also, while it's running, it says Project CoH Test - Version (null)

Are you using a separate copy of the CoH directories for Test?

I just found out my wife's laptop does the exact same thing, and we just bought it maybe a month and a half ago.

Is it a Win 7 64 problem?

Do I then make a shortcut from that then? You read this is for the Test Server right?

I'm also having the same problem. Even on reinstall the updater keeps trying to "fix" the files.

No - let run once first, and after it's done with the Live patching, then create a shortcut to the newly created cohupdater.exe (in Program Files/City of Heroes or Program Files (x86)/City of Heroes) with the -test added to it.

Ok, so I cut the cohupdater.exe from my live install and pasted it on the desktop, let it run, which made it throw a logs folder and a CoHUpdater_UI_Win.dll on the desktop, but it does not make a new cohupdater.exe where my main folder is.

I am missing something here. By the way, I appreciate all the help so far!

I'm getting the exact same behavior on an XP machine running a non-test version of the game. Ran cohupdater from the install dir and from desktop.

The progress is showing as 3.6M/0B, so it can't even read how big the exe is supposed to be. Deleted it and it rebuilt the checksum, but then does the same thing.

This is a serious issue - I assume this doesn't allow the reinstallation of the game at all now for people!

Help!

For me it does allow re-installation, so it might be something different. Any files I delete are downloaded and restored, but the game just won't start because it keeps looping. If I then cancel out and force the game to start without patching it plays fine.

I just can't patch and play with one click. Not a major hassle, but worrisome since I don't know why it's happening.

Ya that's not it, it's affecting completely different Win 7 64 machines in our house.

On the weekend I went on my wife's old PC that already has the test client installed. IT'S DOING THE SAME THING. It's an XP 32 bit box.

Is there something funny going on with the test server? Are we not supposed to be able to patch it or something?!

Well it IS in closed beta right now. There may be a problem... and if there is, we're not allowed to know about it cuz it's CLOSED BETA. If you were invited, then I would open communications with a GM. Otherwise, don't even worry about it for now.

It still does it on any PC in the house, yet I can play live fine. I used to be able to go on the test server.

I'm getting the same issue now and i've done the official version, Bills, and tried the suggestions in here and it does the same thing no matter what, always attempts to fix some random file and gives me a 20+ hr DL time

Can anyone read french or dutch or whatever? One of the other boards? They always seem to have fixes posted on their boards. It would be cool if anyone could read them and see if they have any fixes?

I sent in a ticket but lord knows how long that will take. There is a thread in the chatter and discussion section for Issue 17 for the same thing.

Well, I disconnected my router and disabled the extra windows firewall and did a direct connection. It still does the same thing, so it can't be a router/firewall problem.

It also downloaded normal patches from live in seconds, so it must be imo server side and/or test server problems and not us the users. So I doubt there will be anything we can do until they do/fix something.

Well, thought I would check out the new graphics myself. I recently purchased a new PC, and this update was a large part of my reasoning. Windows 7 64bit, and I'm having the same problem. After the download stalled several times yesterday, I started it over and disabled my powersaver settings and firewall. Figured I could let it run in the background for a day. Unfortunately, I woke up this morning and the updater had closed itself. I started it again, and it says that it's fixing a sound file in the pigg files. Download speed is flatlined at 0kb/sec. I already downloaded the game onto this machine, so it definitely is specific to the test server. Surely someone has come across this and found a fix.

Usually if I first do it on a fresh 'attempt' it says 'fixing cg.dll' at first, then the executable, then it checksumms, downloading file manifest, then starts fixing the exe again, and cycles this over and over.
