The 700 club, round 2
GRATZ!
I'll be joining you soon soon.. (or at least when they add a dozen or so more badges to the game, because I'm only a 42 month vet, and will always be behind by that much. lol)
I didn't get there last time either.. I think I was up to about 696 before they took away all the AE badges. Now I'm back up to 675, but after the 5 more dayjobs and accolades have left to finish off, there is nothing else possible for me to earn to get any higher. I'll cap at 686.

Gratz!! to those who've climbed back to 700+
Besides, to get to 700, a person would have to have all the current Vet rewards AND Bug Hunter. (Maybe Passport on the EU servers). Yes, that is how thin the margin is.

I find it far more worthy to recognize those that get all the badges except Bug Hunter, Passport, all the Vet Rewards, all the Anniversary Badges (and the 5th Column Gladiator), and Power Liberator/Thief. That would be an even playing field, but those badges that not everyone has equal availability to get all of? Meh.

After petitioning for not receiving it on Monday, I was awarded Genuine (the 69 month Vet badge) this afternoon. I am now at a comfy 700 badges. ... And now back to Mass Effect 2. I swear, that game has my soul right now. |
Seriously though, gratz on 700. My main blue toon is working his way there. The only major badge set it needs to work is the invention badges.
I fail to see the need to celebrate the fact that only people with (a) Passport (unavailable to most players) or (b), Bug Hunter (available to even less players), or both can get to 700 badges currently.

Perhaps for a mere 500,000 candy canes during the x-mas event a toon can purchase a missing anniversary badge?

But I think 500K is a little much, given that a holiday respec costs what, 500 candy canes? I'd make each Anniversary badge 1000 candy canes, tops. A little expensive for the casual player, sure, but readily available to the people who really want them.
I'd also follow through on Positron's push to get the Anniversary badges marked as global badges instead of per-character ones, as he said he'd try to do after the AE badge nerf last Spring...
(And thanks for the gratz, Nericus. )

my main toon is at 604 right now (hes a villain as well), and by the end of the month ill have another vet badge and the last of the day job badges
after that all i really can get is the last 3 dmg badges and any new badges
the ones im missing that are unobtainable now is the 2nd anniversary badge, master thief, vet badges, destined one (from the cov collector edition), and those special ones like bug hunter and passport
Unfortunately, unless you stumble across a copy at your local BigLots, the only way to really get the CoH DVD code is to purchase a Hero Gear kit at Hero Con (and I'm not even sure those come with a DVD code anymore)...

That may be as may be Snow. I myself would like to see the return of the power liberator badge as well as the ability to purchase via INF or special salvage the anniversary badges.

I have Power Liberator.

This badge is actually from the CoH DVD collector's edition, not the CoV one. The CoV collector's edition only had an extra cape with an Arachnos logo, if memory serves.

I agree that this is a good idea. (I'm not the sort of badger who's all, "RAR, I HAZ BADGEZ AND I DON'T WANT YOU TO HAZ THEM!" I think the more crazy badgers we have, the better. )

I had recently posted a suggestion about this in another thread before it was deleted. This isn't as restrictive as my original suggestion was, but I'd go for a solution that would have broader requirements:
- 250,000,000 inf
- 1,000 merits
- 500 candy canes
- only purchaseable from the Candy Keeper during winter events
Edit: On further thought, the badge requirements could be scaleable based on how far back you're going. The requirements listed here might be for anything older than, say, two anniversaries ago (or years 1-3 at this time). The badge that was for the previous anniversary (year 4 as of now) would be:
- 100,000,000 inf
- 500 merits
- 250 candy canes
- 50,000,000 inf
- 250 merits
- 100 candy canes.

as for the base raid badges, i wouldnt count those as unobtainable forever because at PAX the devs did state that they would get around to redoing base raids, CoP trial, and IoP sometime in the future. but for right now its one of those special badges of times past.
the only ones i dont consider in the list of badges are the special ones like bug hunter or passport (especially bug hunter, since you can only get that from a dev/mod)

I would prefer they just be global
i dont think there is a hero gear kit on the NCsoft store anymore

I bought my DVD edition off Amazon.com a long time ago for a really good deal. I ended up saving money by buying it actually...
DvD edition was for sale for $50
Amazon was offering $30 instant savings on first purchase if you signed up for a VISA card.
Applying the retail code added 1 month of game time (value approx $15)
For some reason, there was a 60-day time card packaged with it as well (value approx $30)
So, I basically spent $20 and received:
- the actual unopened box with Heroclix
- the in-game badge and cape items
- 3 months of game time
- a new credit card (lol)
Even if the 60 day card wasn't in the package, it still would have basically cost me only $5 for the badge, but in this case I got the badge and a month of play for free. I hope other people can find similar deals like that. Factor in the price of the free month you get for the retail code, and it might not cost a much as you think.
