Forgive my noobiness to shields but I have a couple of questions.

What do the 3 membranes in Active Defence give you that 3 recharge SOs wouldn't?

Why does nobody slot Phalanx Fighting for defence?


PuffCat claw/rgn scrapper
Painfull Death fire/fire tank
Spiney Slaughter spine/da walkingnuke
And many others including lvl50s of all ATs.
Mainly on Virtue, but Heroes on all servers.
A few lowbie villains on Justice and Virtue

I think people tend to ignore Phalanx Fighting because its not a reliable source of defence due to its small radius, therefore you can't guarantee a team mate will always be in range. And the Membrane Exposures are to boost the defence debuff resistance, that one puzzled me too a while ago.

Phalanx Fighting gives you a 3.75% def to melee/range/AoE. That's without anyone in range. Considering how precious every percentage of defense can be in shield builds, I've never seen a good shield build without this power.

oops, I hadn't noticed that phalanx fighting's defence is un-enhanceable, I totally get why no one slots it now and I've respeced now so have two more slots to play with.

So I just hit 50 after not playing COH in a VERY long time. I made a Elec/SD and I would like a little input as to where I should farm up the kind of influence im going to need to fully IO this sucker. Any suggestions would be awesome!

My suggestion is to find a difficulty setting that allows you to plow through mobs and missions quickly. I would also park your toon for day job bonuses that either give influence bonuses, or recipe drops at the end of the mission (personally, I've had more success with the recipe drops in Oro).

As for the mission types...my blaster stealths a "find the clicky" series of missions in Oro for merit farming, my tank and corruptor runs missions at +6, -1 level, and tears through radio missions or AE missions. Not sure on what my Elec/SD scrapper will do yet because I have only just started that venture. I am probably thinking of running it like my tank, since that seems to work well.

As for Elec/SD builds, this is what I am looking at, and it will be expensive:

Park in Oro for the mission recipe drops. Another option to consider is parking in AE for ticket bonus, and finding some quick AE missions to run, then turn in the tickets for stuff to sell or use. Many paths to the same destination.

Defenses are over the cap because lots of enemies debuff defense. Some also have +to-hit bonuses, but a farmer probably won't encounter many of those.

Here's my build. I like the speed of Charged Brawl over Havoc Punch, but that could be switched easily if you disagree. Some of the slots are not at max level because I got the IO through gameplay and slotted it early. I may or may not swap out for a level 50 later. Most cases it won't be worth it.

I am seriously considering switching APPs, because my endurance is manageable already and I still have a good bit of slotting to do. So I don't think PP will be that necessary, even though I *HATE* running out of endurance. However concept-wise I am not sure where else to go. Darkness and Blaze don't fit, and I won't have the slots to make them useful anyway. Maybe I'll drop APPs altogether and get Recall Friend or Aid Self or something. I'd have to drop Stealth to pick up another power pool, but that was mostly concept anyway (and some defense) /shrug.

Here's my current live build. It's pretty ridiculous. It ain't cheap, but it has capped def and perma-hasten (technically it isn't perma, but since I can't autofire it anyway due to having Active Def on auto I figure it's close enough). Build Up, Shield Charge and lightning Rod are up every 26.6 seconds. I can farm Battle Maiden at +4 x8 with ease. I love, love, LOVE this build.
