When did singularity become such a wuss?

I brought out some old toons after a long stretch and wanted to feel out my grav/storm. I loved the pure chaos when I first played her.

But I find the AI of singy puzzling, at best. He always ends up positioning himself behind me, no matter where the enemy is. When I summon him in the midst of a spawn, he does his knockback thing, and then comes and positions himself behind me. Even when I hide in a dumpster!

It has been awhile, and a few nights of play does not a trend make, but has anyone else noticed this? Or did I just not notice this when they changed it a few issues back?

best, yomo

Its hard for me to remember back in the day how it may have used to be different. I still wish we could summon 3 of them like we used to be able to do.

Anyway, yeah, he stands behind you. Its nice for you to have some stealth so you can drag him through bad guys. That way he can take the alpha strike if you can't. He'll still attack anyone in his aggro range.

Singy see, singy do?

You're setting a bad example, no wonder he's such a wuss.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

Singularity has a "tether" function in the AI, which mandates that Singy keep you within LoS or else he'll try to come and find you. That's why when you jump in the dumpster (thus blocking LoS to Singy) he'll retreat to your position. The "tether" function also wants to drag Singy through positions that you have already been in, which is why he ends up behind you a lot. if you slide from side to side a bit, you'll see that he likes to move where you were which when moving sideways will make him park beside you.

I stick a ranged enhancement in him which helps a lot.

I love when he gets angry and charges into melee.

I kind of like it that Singy is my rearguard. Helps out in those maps with patrols or whenever bad people are just a little off screen.

Contrast with Dark Servant who always does despite no melee capability.

Chill of the Night is his best ability.

This. i have a tendency to toss Fluffy into melee if he doesn't go on his own, but that hasn't been an issue for a while. Slot the little bugger for tohit debuff and he makes a pretty good aggro magnet.

Singy is my least-favorite pet. As a controller, I want what I am lacking in from my pets, and that is damage. I like imps, Jack, and Poo-man for this reason. My grav/ff troller, IF I pull out Singy, will rarely even notice what Singy is doing. The one thing I do like about Singy is it's look - very cool looking for a pet.

This is crazy all you haters out there How could you NOT know what Singy is doing? How could you say he never charges in melee or blocks my escape route?(he does this often for me, one reason I was even able to Solo Cimerora Maps)

When I played Gravity Control I almost lost all hope but IMMEDIATELY when I acquired Singy I noticed a dramatic difference. In fact thanks to Singy I didn't delete my Grav/Kin Controller. I think you all are trolling this thread to get responses out of someone gullible like me...well it worked LOL.

As far as a Controller Pet that Protects you no other Pets comes close except for Phantasm, Animate Stone and Dark Servant. In my Opinion those three rival Singy as far as a pet that keeps you alive. Phantasm for me would have to almost pass Singy since he stays around after you die. *well at least the decoy does*. Animate Stone can dish out some tasty dmg and he tanks like mad.

Singy Will Tank for you and can actually survive Bosses, EB's and AV's with the right set up. I don't see the Imps doing that or even Jack (don't get me started on him). Venus lately has been impressing me since the buff but he still can't take much dmg.

As far as dishing out damage. He's not up there on the charts but as far as him being a wuss and not protecting you I beg to differ. He pushes out Aggro like no body's business.

Hey don't be cutting down Jack, if you slot him right he will survive better then some tanks against EB's, AV's and others. But that goes for any pets you have. And how you use them. Nothing better then seeing the tank go down and Jack is still at full health getting the agroe off of my troller. But as far as what you said about dragging singularity around it is great when you can just run though mobs, not stealthing or ss to help you but him. ( now if i can only get him up there where i can summon him quicker)

Wait...you singularity was killed? Holy bajeezus what did you throw him in a room or purple con bosses? LOL He is the hardest pet to kill Next to Animate Stone.

I know any pet can be awesome but just with SO's Jack is quite meh. Now I've seen Jack buffed by an Ice/Cold controller with Ice shield and such and he was BEAST. In my opinion he's the second or third most aggressive Pet out there.

I did not throw him at anything he was following me when i was running through the abandon sewers in the sewer trials. ( ran almost to the end before it went down.)

I am not seeing this behavior. I approach a group with Singularity in tow, yes, but once it engages the enemy it seems to stop and attack at range. I move around to hit mobs with Air Superiority and it doesn't follow right behind me, though I sort of wanted it to so that Singularity's Repel would keep melee mobs off me.

But in the instances I'm thinking of I've had a clear line of sight to the Singularity, so my experience is consistent with Redlynne's explanation of the "tether" function.

Which means that if you want to control the behavior more closely you should experiment with popping in and out of the pet's view to see if you can force particular positioning.

Hey, Mama Yomo didn't raise no fools (my grav troller is a wafer thin squishy)! I still love Singy, but I seem to recall he used to wreak a little more havok and was a lot more aggressive in combat range. I could be malremembering.

My issue with breaking line of sight is when I aggro a crowd, with Singy right in the midst of them (sometimes cast on them) and break LOS, I would expect at least some of them to target Singy which would presumably keep him in combat. But it seems as soon as you break LOS, the aforementioned tether takes precedence over established aggro. Or so it seems to me.
