Between GR's ultra mode, animated hair and tails, and the still unresolved / poorly managed memory issues of CoH I'd predict FPS drops across the board for even the mightiest of computers.

I'm not too worried..but if there is a sudden problem, then that only shows the next thing that needs looking at =P
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

I don't have very long hair, so I'd be happy with just the bangs and back moving - it doesn't have to move a lot - just a bit

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
No, I mean to say if they released a new "Animated Tails Only Booster Pack" for $49.99, I would buy it.

He also doesn't wear a cape, so the one animated costume piece limit wouldn't get in the way of me having awesomely bad flowing 80's hair.

If we do get moving tails I hope they don't disconnect from our bodies and rotate 90 degrees if we are to far away from the camera like I kept seeing in CO the last freekend.
This tweet from BAB is encouraging and it seems timely given that the upcoming Mutant booster pack is a likely place for -any- improvments in costume tails. I'm obviously hoping that means we'll be getting animated tails, but even if it's just going to be "tails with belts" that would be a welcomed change.

I'm afraid you are going to be a bit out of luck on this part.
... There's also a possibility that animated tails could be moved into Back Detail. |
But all he said was he was working on separating them. That doesn't necessarily mean they are animated or that if they are animated that they'll use the flowing "cape" system (could be a very limited swishing movement and still be a lot more lifelike than they are now). I can keep my hope up that they'll put them someplace besides Back... maybe open a whole new "Details" section on bottoms which would open a whole new aspect of customization and would make me very happy... ok, now I'm dreaming.
At any rate, I realize my opinion counts for nothing but I will be very upset if I can't switch out costumes on my tank after some tail-change goes live.
Then frankly the tails can stay where they are and how they are. I'd rather live without a belt than live without my scarf or other short cape or especially wings just because I want a tail.

given the dev's unwillingness to change stuff that has already been published into the game, I would suspect that the static tails aren't going to be taken out.
So perhaps I mis-spoke in how I phrased my statement.
If BaB's is working on animating tails, I suspect that you will be out of luck in having both a cape effect and animated tail effect.
That does not mean that you will not still be able to have a static tail with a moving cape effect.
Would really like a decent dog/wolf/fox style face that isn't all fangs. Y'know, that you might want to use on a Hero.
Actually thought of possibly my first Silly character, while idly wondering what might be in Mutant pack XD
Although I'd be making serious characters as well if we got decent animal face. I really hope we do.

Let's see if I can work up some outraged based on speculation and rumor:
The main reason I'd want an animated tail would be so my dragon would look and feel as good as he did in CO (between the animated tails and the beast run, he's virtually my only CoH toon that looks better in CO than here). So if this game gave animated tails, but I had to choose between them and wings? DOOM!, I say, DOOM!
Of course, the level of my sturm und drang should be adjusted according to the reality of the situation if it ever comes about.

I was thinking about this, and I don't think a tail would need to be "free-flowing like a cape.
It would only need a limited set of animations- one for running or walking, maybe rippling a bit for flying, and so on. In regards to flying, I don't think the tail would flutter like a cape- how many animal tails do you see that flutter cape-like while the animal is in flight? Some movement would be a given, but I imagine a long tailed animal in flight would keep its tail under some semblance of control, for aerodynamics.

If they do break tails off from the belts, they've better make them work with capes, wings etc or my demon is going to be very unhappy.

Technically (don't quote me on this though), I would think it would be possible to have tails that moved, while not being in the same vein of 'animated' as capes and trenchcoats.
If you look at some hair atm, Serated Sugar being the one I noticed it on first, the hair actually does kinda of move atm. Well, bends, anyway. I dont know wether thats simpl because it's glued to the characters back, and so moves with that, or what. Tis interesting though. Try flicking through ninja run, upright, and walking backwards.
And I agree that the tails really shouldn't use cape mechanics. Blowing in the wind might look ok in, say, the Shard or the Cimerora Peninsula...but in Pocket D? Or inside? Seriously...
Even if it's just a fixed sway or something. If not, then so long as they look half decent, I dont see too many problems.
Touch wood >_>

I'm not sure that much is possible, but you know what? I'd actually like to see the option for an exposed backbone like this as a back option. I would DEFINITELY use it on a few characters.
