Snowball fight !!!!!! In HELL.

Seriously though, what are your early predictions for who is going to the Superbowl?

I'll say San Diego and Saints.

I could see San Diego and the Cowboys as well. It is hard to say between the Colts and San Diego because both teams had a pretty easy schedule overall. I am a little underimpressed with the Colts despite their record because of their schedule and the fact that they got lucky against the Patriots. The Ravens are not horrible either. The Patriots (my team) had a slim chance to make it there this year considering they forgot how to play a fourth quarter. I think they had 3 pts in the fourth quarter total for the last five games combined! Now that Wexler is out they have a slightly better chance than the Jets. The Cowboys have gotten their stuff together lately and ofcourse they beat the Saints recently. So I could see the Cowboys in it. I just feel the Saints want it more.

What are your early predictions for who is going to the Superbowl ??

To be honest (since I'm a Redskins fan), as long as the Cowboys, Eagles and/or Patriots don't win the SB I'm fine.

I'll be rooting for the Saints to win it all I guess...I like to see 'new' teams win the SB...like the Saints/Vikings/Jets/Bengals/Chargers/etc.

Worst possible outcome: Ravens vs. Cowboys with either team winning.

Who I'd like to see: Chargers vs. Packers, Saints, Cardinals or Vikings, with either team winning as long as it is an exciting, competitive game.

Who I think it will be: Chargers vs. Cowboys - winner Cowboys.\

My question is, what were they thinking with the Pro Bowl? It'll likely get better ratings being the week before the SB instead of the week after, but who the heck is going to play in it? The two teams going to the SB aren't going to let their players play in the PB. Of course that won't matter if the Bengals make it to the SB since none of their players were invited to the PB anyway.

There has been a lot of talk about this. I don't know what they were thinking either. I think they are trying to get a larger viewing audience to watch the Probowl, since they know that a lot of people watch the superbowl who are not football viewers. However, it wont work, only people who really love football watch the probowl, i know a few regular viewers who could care less about the probowl. Certainly, as u said, any players in the superbowl won't play in the probowl. There is also a lot of talk about the fact that both the super and the pro are in Miami (no Hawaii). iirc a lot of the players really liked the idea that there were going to Hawaii just for the novelty of it, etc. etc.

They'll have alternates ready to step in. I don't think it's a big deal really. Every major pro sports' All-Star game is a joke really. (The MLB game use to be fun and competitive but now meh...)

As a Patriots fan I'd love to see them make it to the big game but without Welker that's highly unlikely. I'll root for whatever team denies the Colts and Steelers from winning another championship. *edit* would also like to see the Jets lose badly.

Who cares about the Super Bowl this year? The real game will be the AFC Championship between the Chargers and the Colts. Whoever manages to get there from the NFC is going to be slaughtered so it doesn't really matter much to me.

My picks:

Cincinnati over NY
Baltimore over NE (No Welker no win for NE. Also, I hate them.)

Philadelphia over Dallas (Iffy, the Eagles either easily win or play so bad you'd think they were the Rams. Depends on which team decides to show up.)
Green Bay over Arizona (The cheeseheads have been underapreciated thanks to the Vikings being in their division)

San Diego and Indianapolis win the divisional rounds setting up one of the best AFC games in years (Certainly the best since the '06 game of NE vs Indy)
Indianapolis wins with (another) stunning come from behind in the final minutes.

New Orleans wins their divisional game, but the other is up for grabs. Philly will beat Minnesota, but Dallas won't.

Doesn't matter much because New Orleans will be in the Super Bowl.

Indianapolis wins the Super Bowl.

Pretty bold predictions there. I look forward to seeing the Colts denied. =P

No worries on the Eagles ... They'll choke like they always do.

Well I've narrowed it down to about 12 teams ....

Most likely -
AFC - Chargers since they seem to have Indy's number.
NFC - Harder here. I'd love to see the Vikings sneak in there somehow but the Cowboys and Saints will be tough to beat. Saints seem to forgotten how to win so looks like Cowboys are most likely.

Finals - Romo v. Rivers. I'm rooting against the Chargers also because of the new stadium/tax thing that Cien mentioned but can only see them beating themselves, not someone beating them.

As someone from San Diego (even if not living there anymore)...Chargers!

As someone who hasn't really watched any sport since leaving San Diego, I hope whatever teams that do go, that the AFC team wins

The Eagles will be the ones sitting in someone's living room watching the SB ...

To the folks from San Diego - I feel you regarding the stadium taxes; I don't think it's the least bit fair to tax ordinary people to pay for something that a multi-millionaire (in some cases -billionaire) will use. But will losing in the playoffs actually stop a new stadium from being built? Unless the owner is going to move the team to L.A. or something if he doesn't get a new stadium, I think you guys are out of luck.

In the last ten years, both Pennsylvania NFL teams got new stadiums despite the fact that they'd each only been to one SB since 1980, and neither of them had won since the Steelers in 1979. I'm sure the same is true of several other franchises around the league too. Look at the Cowboys - they haven't won a playoff game in like 10 years. Although to be fair, I don't know the financing details of the new billion dollar Cowboys stadium, but I would be very surprised to learn that no public money went towards its construction.

Hmm...I don't remember Pittsburgh getting a new stadium...it's still Heinz Field unless I'm mistaken.

Philly did get a new stadium around 2000 or so (I think)...

The baseball stadium, which is beautiful and I am a big fan of, only got built because the team went to the World Series. Without that winning run, it almost certainly would not have passed the ballot measure. Many people in San Diego believe (and only if he have a vote will we know if it's most or not) that the owner should pay for the bulk of any new stadium. But if they win a SB there will be huge sympathy from the voters and the City to throw money into the deal. Already talks of building a stadium in Oceanside, about 30 north of downtown, have fallen apart for an idea to put the football stadium next to the baseball stadium - on municipal owned ground. The City would at the minimum have to relocate the bus and trolley depot.

So, will losing in the playoffs stop a new stadium? Maybe not. But will the likelihood increase that the owner will have to chip in a larger share of the cost? IMO, almost certainly.

You're not mistaken about the name of their current stadium, but the Steelers played in Three Rivers Stadium through the 2000 season. The Eagles began playing at Lincoln Financial Field in 2003 after years at Veterans Stadium.

Ah okay...didn't know about the Steeler's new stadium. Now that I've seen/read that name I do remember games from "Three Rivers Stadium". And see what a new stadium did for the Steelers? 2 SBs after that

Yea, that old stadium, they never did anything there.
What a dump it must have been.

Agreed. The Florida Marlins are getting a new stadium and "the talks" only started after they won a World Series. The owners are paying 30%. I believe this system is basically the same for all major league sports.

Unfortunately a new stadium has not had the same effect on the Pirates (who also used to play at Three Rivers) since they set the all-time MLB record for futility with their 17th consecutive losing season in 2009.

Back on topic...

My predictions for this weekend's games:

Baltimore over New England (please, no)
NYJ over Cincy
Dallas over Philly
Green Bay over Arizona
