I think I'm pretty much done here. I was hopeing GR would keep my interest but as info is very slow in coming I'm letting my account expire on Jan 8th. I think it's time for something new. I've been playing since July 8th 2005. It's been fun.

Hamster, I'll miss you most of... no wait. Voodoo I'll miss you most.... that's not right. Mental? Viv? Des? OK. All of you.

Maybe some of you will deside to "Boldly Go" as well. It starts Feb 2nd.

Cya Fista.

Once the current round of Isos wraps up I may take a break from the game as well. GR needed to come a lot sooner, IMHO.

I wonder how fast you expected more news to arrive, given they said Beta is early 2010 and launch is Quarter 2.

Well, they never even released press stuff to recap a lot of the Herocon stuff, which which was a big mistake. If you don't read the forums, you have zero to look forward to, since their official site hasn't been updated in ages.

Even then, they only talked about the updated graphics and a little about side switching, which is nice, but not much. That's all we've heard since the end of October. Maybe they have some great PR campaign set to start up here in the next month or so, but I don't know. Little tidbits here and there would be nice and serve to wet our appetites as well.

I still think that an issue of some sort is needed before GR, otherwise it is a long wait, as Fista and MG note. I'm fine hanging out for now (since I play some other games and am plenty busy in real life), but it would be a smart idea to give people a bit more to look forward to before a promise of "something big" next summer.

Two new powersets, An entire new dimension. New content for levels 1-20, endgame content was strongly hinted at. You oversimplified a tad.

New content for levels 1-20?

Hells yeahs, that's just what everyone has been demanding for YEARS.

Personally, I don't care about the lack of specific GR news... I'm just thinking what could they possibly put in the pre-GR issue that will be interesting, since so much effort is dedicated to GR. I don't think we'll see any new sets, or zones, so that just leaves new contacts/arcs and some QoL/MA enhancements. That's not much to go on since the last Ish (which happened back in September, if you can believe it...).

I've got Lifetime subs with two other MMOs (CO and LOTRO) so I will probably dedicate more time to them in the coming months.

This is pretty much why I'm forcing myself to stay away from CoH. I miss the game terribly and all the friends I have here. For all the shiny of other games, I REALLY prefer how most things are set up in CoH.

CoH Devs have been slow adding new things to the game. Their last big addition was AE which I pretty much hated the moment it went live. I appreciate the work that went into it, but it didn't anything to the game for me.

If Going Rogue lives up to half the hype it's got going for it, I'll be thrilled. By staying away now, everything will be fresher for me when I return. I won't even participate much in the beta, for the same reason. (I'll probably sneak a peak at costume stuff.)

Unfortunately for me, Aion high level content is not to my liking. It's been weeks since I logged into Aion. The other MMORPGS that interest me are too far off to be of consequence (SW and BnS). I'll probably fiddle with stand alones for a bit, I haven't finished TR: Underworld or Batman: AA yet.

Some Going Rogue tid bit news would be nice.

Mostly this^ for me also. PS3, Assassins Creed 2 and Modern Warfare are occupying my time lately (I suck at it, but it's entertaining). Also, Brutal Legend is pretty fun. I needed a break from sitting at my PC for such long stretches.

But I still love the CoX. wait...

I got a little tired of it when I started a ton of alts at the same time and ran through the content too many times at once. But it can be pretty fun... I still get thrills out of entering Atlas Park for the first time and hearing that music. Good stuff. The game also plays differently then (with pros and cons to that, of course), which is a nice change of pace from later levels.

I'm still a little annoyed that they added even more xp gain to the first 20 levels. They can be fun, and now you really rush past them. And the issues people could have with that level range could have been solved a lot more interestingly.

One of the points I was trying to make is that "early 2010" is technically right now, and any point from now. If the criteria for letting the account expire is not having any new info, it might be oddly timed.

Maybe, but CoH devs are notoriously vague about release dates. At times, I don't think they even have the same calenders as the rest of us. 2nd quarter could easily be 6 months from now.

Thing is, while the game IS fun overall, it could stand to have a little bit of housekeeping done to it before they attempt a major push at bringing in newer players.

Like, say...

Instant/quicker phone call levels for all the original contacts. I mean Jesus, it can't be THAT much programming to change that.

Change the LFT flags; most people don't even know they exist. Make it easier for people to find teams.

Out right eliminate DO's and trainers.

Or atleast get rid of TOs. I can somewhat see DOs staying, especially if price scaling stays as it is. Inf comes easy but not everyone knows how to manage it.

I don't see the teaming system as that hard. They just need a LFT tag that notes a player is on a trial account (since they can't send tells) and some sort of tag/coloration that notes the player is the team leader so you can ask if they are full.

The thing is, TO and DO levels are hardwired into the system. If you get exemped to those ranges, your enhancement percentages take the hit as well. You can be better off depending on how you slotted with IOs, but you're still going to be below SO levels of enhancement.

Nor would such a change be as easy as dropping TOs and DOs. The devs would have to reconsider drop rates, influence rates, etc., as well as balancing out damage somehow so you couldn't drop mobs so easily (if you pay attention to defeats, mob HP stays balanced roughly around the possible damage enhancement for the level range). Or they would scale back the enhancement levels to match those level ranges, as they already do when you exemp down, making the whole change moot.

We have a scaling system that is designed to make you more powerful as you go. While I don't particularly like TOs, etc. the system does tend to work... I see a lot more merit to putting in an end recovery mechanic similar to beginner's accuracy, personally. After that, the first twenty levels would be gravy.

I think it was at the Q&A panel that Hero 1 mentioned he was trying to do exactly that.
He wants to make the contacts in heroes be more like the ones in villains, and give out the cell phone after the 3rd mission or so. It's a lot of story arcs to go through...

Ummm....no. I'm not aware of any circumstance in which you are ever better off with TOs....or DOs for that matter. Exemplar affects enhancement according to your level, not the type of enhancements. Yes, there are threshold caps, but even factoring those in, you are much better off with IOs. The only reason to keep TOs and DOs in the game is the help out new players who don't have any funds with which to buy generic IOs but even that is weak argument.

I'd have them just give it right off, especially for the pre-level 20 contacts. You have hordes of them in CoH in the lower levels and unlike CoV, they are chock full of hunt missions and doors that aren't usually in the same zone. At least CoV contacts keeps you in the zone of the contact, generally. No "Oh, you're level 3? Do a door mission in the *** end of KR" from a contact in Atlas or a "You have a choice of defeat 10 level 12 CoT in Perez or defeat 10 level 12 CoT in Perez" when you're level five.

I see how it is, you slack-jawed tease And to think, I was thinking maybe I would try to give it a go for the next red round, JUST FOR YOU, I find out it's the *only* thing barely keeping you here in the first place now and you might not even do it yourself. You're dead to me.

Fista, cya man. I know the feeling. But take solace in the fact that no, you won't miss me at all.

Des, you kind of misread what I said. I don't know how much your enhancements get reduced when you exemp, but it is a sizable chunk. As I said, exemping with more slots and enhancements slotted is always a good idea.

My point was merely that even if the Devs removed TOs and DOs, our powers at those earlier levels would still be weaker than in the SO range, making a drop of the TO and DO enhancements not do very much..

I'd probably be into just going to DOs up until the SO range, and adjust influence costs/drops so they could be affordable at early levels. TOs do give the idea that enhancement slotting isn't a good idea, which isn't a good thing.
