Next tank?

Okay, my current tank (dark/dark) is 2 bars from 50. My next tank will be Willpower primary since I haven't done that one yet and it sounds different enough from defense and resistance sets to be interesting.

Can anyone suggest a secondary and the reason they suggest it? I have already done: Battle Axe, Dark Melee, Energy Melee, Fiery Melee and Super Strength so I don't want to do any of those again.

when wp first came out i did a energy melee...but i should have gone stone melee..i hear alot of great things about it i was kinda mad that i made e.m.

try that!

Stone Melee. Lots of smash and good mitigation.
War Mace. Good amount of aoe and mitigation

Dual Blades. Why? It's different and WP is a rather "passive" Primary which makes an "active" Secondary desirable. And Dual Blades is the most active Secondary I can imagine.

I second Dual Blades. I have a WP/DB tank and it's a lot of fun. The only caveat is that you need almost everything in WP for it to be effective, and a lot of powers in DB for *it* to be effective, so you get what is known as a "tight" build.

Scrapper Jack (SJ/WP Brute), Sky Commando (WP/SJ Tanker), Curveball (Rad/DP Defender), and a bunch more.

War Mace, or Dual Blades. Both are a lot of fun. And Willpower doesn't have any click powers to cause redraw or interrupt combos. Both are good for damage, and especially good for AoE damage.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

Try Ice melee. It's a pretty good AoE set and Willpower is better against larger groups of enemies. The slows and controls should give your regen plenty of time to keep your green bar alive. Plus I don't think i've ever seen one so you won't be accused of making a FoTM X-D

Battle Axe. Do it for the puns.

I also agree with Willpower / Ice Melee. It would be VERY unique. The Ice Patch and the Slows from your AOEs would help mitigation, and as someone else said, it would give you more time to regen. Its a good call.

I myself have played Willpower / Stone to level 50, and its also a great set. You have lots of mitigation in your AOE knockdown and your AOE stun. That works well with the regen also.

I also think Willpower / War Mace would be nifty. Again, you have a fair amount of mitigation in your secondary, and it just seems like it would be fun.

Willpower / Electric would be fun too, but just because electric looks go good.

But seriously, try Willpower / Ice, and be a rarity on your block.

I say save Ice Melee for a Shield/Ice tanker. But then at the same time, I saw a one handed hurl for the first time yesterday, and that's hard to pass up!

WP/ELEC is my suggestion.

Willpower benefits from more AoE attacks. Willpower/Electric sounds tempting. I have too many WP tankers already, else I'd have made one long ago.

WP/Stone is also solid - played that combo to 50, and /Ice is good for a team friendly WP as well.

Not really a fan of WP/DB; the two sets are rather demanding, so your build is very tight.

Well, my dark tank hit 50 and I haven't decided on the replacement yet. Still Willpower for sure. Definitely want a secondary I haven't done.

I have so far ruled out Dual Blades after reading up on the combo business and hearing about how many of the powers are needed for it to be effective. Most of my tanks seem to take 5-6 powers from the secondary and I don't want to have to fill up on that. Also, the combos seem like they would be annoying to keep track of while tanking. I might try the set on a scrapper.

I'm leaning away from Mace since my previous tank was Shield/Axe and, from the comments at the time, it sounded like Axe and Mace were almost neck and neck in damage and mitigation.

I'm leaning toward WP/Ice since it seems 'different' and I have a name and concept in mind (if the name is available - haven't checked yet). Also leaning toward WP/Electric since Lightning Rod looks super fun, rather like Shield Charge.

I need a tank 'in the works' so I'll probably decice and roll him up tomorrow.

Either way you go (WP/Ice or WP/Elec) ... best of luck on your new Tank!

As Heraclea said, Tanker **/DB makes for a tight build and you can't really get away with skipping any of the powers, almost all of your mitigation is in the combos, so WP/DB is Very tight. On the other hand, saturating RttC on a Tanker can make you feel Immortal! Surrounded by a sea of foes and Laughing Out Loud as you (slowly) mow them down. - I did it on a Warriors arc at +1x8 - I'm at L30 now.

As for the Scrapper idea, if you can stand doing it, run a Dual Blades Scrapper up to L12 or so with Nimble Slash, Ablating Strike, Typhoon's Edge, and Blinding Strike. You will see that the Combos are not so hard. There is a certain timing involved, but not hard at all. The orange lights will guide you.
IF you decide you really Like that Scrapper, then you might consider a respec in the 20s-30s and drop Nimble Slash for Power Slice - switching to the higher level combos at that point. Or, just pick up Power Slice in that range and ride it out, with the full compliment of 8 attacks.

On a Tanker, I take all of the attacks in order. Mainly that's because you end up waiting so long for Typhoon's Edge and your first combo, and I like to have a decent attack chain ASAP.

Yes, there are some blanks, which you could switch around, or consider in the light of IO Sets.

All of that said, you may prefer WP/Electric, or WP/Ice instead, since the combos Can certainly be annoying if the enemy doesn't cooperate, or if you hit a bad patch of misses.

Okay, created the toon today. I went WP/ice. I used a name I had been thinking about for another ice-based character, sort of. My first choice was taken - Taiga Tiger. But Taiga Tigress was free so I made a catgirl.

Oh dear... Well, in that case, the Legion of Catgirls has bases on every server and a global chat channel with a fun community. Send a tell to @Sleepy Kitty and she should be able to hook you up with a comfy nest and a stash of 'nip.
