There is a message - it says there's a gift from Lord Winter.
What is missing is a directional thing like the Halloween GMs had

2) Portal present disappears WAY too quickly. It should stay active until the instance is over. I've had plenty of failures because no one can join in the instance beyond the first few minutes. Makes it way frustrating.
That's part of the challenge - it's also why there's a timer on the present, to let more people assemble - the kind of people who only appear in the RWZ once the pylons are down

I think he means a message showing up in the Events channel in the chatbox.

The present does show up on the minimap as a blue dot though.

Except I have people on my team who zone in to say AP just a min or two after the counter and the present is gone.
Trying to casually get the badge with a pickup team is stupidly hard. You need to have 2 teams before you even start to have a chance in hell. I thought ridiculous badge requirements were a thing of the past?

According to paragonwiki.com, Port Oaks, Sharkhead or St. Martial - the entrance should be marked as a green dot on you map.

They've already given out free slots.

And plenty have asked for some free server transfers.

The Northern Lights and Lord Winter being able to spawn camp the rez point is really lame, but I've only had that happen once so far.

Otherwise I really like this event.

What determes the present spawn level? A present at same spot in Talos Island ranged from level 20 to 27. Being level 24 the 20's were one hits, and the 27 were purple, but still defeatable.

Had that happen once as well.

If everyone stops trying to rez, will they eventually wander off? There wasn't enough left on the timer to really tell.

oy...

OK. Having read some of the previous "stuff," the small late-late-night team we had going (PUG, and with several lowbies, no less) I knew wouldn't do much.

Finally took down a winter lord when I swapped to my MM. Debuffs, yay... but oy, until I and another MM showed up, not a scratch was being done to this guy. (Though there was a 50 brute doing aggro control and cleanup on whatever else spawned, as well.)

Poked our noses into the Realm -

Know what'd be nice? If the "hospital" were inaccessible to the GM and his buddies. No, relaly, having the Lord of Winter standing *right where you'd be if you rezzed,* with a little fleet of Frostlings and Northern Lights, is a bit irritating.

Of course, it didn't help that 1-2 of the PUGers wouldn't stop *going* there. And dying. And rezing.

I don't know. I haven't gotten excited over the winter event, personally, but I halfway think this particular bit - from a Winter Lord spawning through the realm - shouldn't be in lowbie zones. There's really no chance of them *doing* anything. Gifts and spawns, sure, I suppose.

Color me really disappointed this year.

My husband and I play together. We have a 10 month old daughter. We haven't been playing much of late because we prefer to play together, and unfortunately, life with baby is such that this isn't possible without a great deal of effort. Usually, one of us is minding her while the other does whatever needs to be done. Mind you, I'm not complaining, because she's a lot more fun than the game.

However, since it was the WL event and there was a new badge, and she actually took a nap when we were both awake (!) we decided to take advantage of our free hour together and try for the WL badge with our two mains. They'd been at the first winter event, and for sentimentality's sake, we generally try to get them in at the seasonal events.

Keep in mind, we've been organizing events for years. However, not only was this one like pulling teeth, it really wasn't any fun. It was just a grind -- and a grind made all the worse by the fact that after spending almost an hour getting packages, taking down the monster, and trying to get together multiple teams with debuffers...we ended up taking the guardian down twice and getting the WL halfway.

No badge. Nothing to show for the time we spent. If I were still able to spend 12 hours on a Saturday or Sunday parked in a chair at my computer, that would have been only a minor irritation. However, given that just an hour comes with great effort, it was really, really annoying to feel I'd wasted that time. We really felt we would have enjoyed it more if we'd just headed off to spend time together or even watch something we'd recorded on the DVR. That's really sad, given that I've really been looking forward to getting to play.

I don't mind events where I can get an eight team of supergroup members and friends to tackle something. I really mind events when I have to basically run a raid in order to get a single badge. I don't play WoW because I can't stand raids, and I really hate having to participate in one in CoX now for one badge.

I don't expect things to be easy. However, I really dislike events which are set up to be defeated by circumstances I cannot control. I cannot control when I get a chance to play any more, nor how long I can play. I cannot control server population, and trust me, Liberty's been a ghost town when I've been around. I don't want to transfer to another server, especially not Freedom or Virtue, and besides, my main's got a prestige record I don't want to lose.

Could the designer of this event never, EVER set anything like this up again? It's bad enough to have to make sure you have a debuffer on hand; it's just insane to have to make sure you have twenty something people in order to get one single event badge. Please, *please* design events so that even people like me, who are paying my full subscription every month for one or two hours of play, can accomplish a simple badge at a seasonal event without having to get a babysitter to look after my daughter to do it.

I think there were a few things done wrong on this holiday zone event. Probably the one that bugged me the most though was that SEVERAL times, not just once or twice, I found the Winter Lord and provided key debuffs or other support from the beginning of combat and yet failed to get the badge for defeating him.

Add to that the dynamic where players wouldn't tell you when a WL was up, or where he was, and instead preferred to announce when a LoW package was up, it was particularly hard for me to get that badge.

Irritated with that, and with the added annoyance of never knowing if you were going to have enough of the right players for LoW, I largely gave up on the event.

Once again, those who've done this are not bothering to help those who haven't, mainly because of the extreme toughness of this event - just like it was for the banner event during Hallowe'en. In all the other special event missions, I'd be one of those staying on with a toon that had already gotten everything just to help out my team until I've made sure that EVERYONE had gotten all the badges.

THAT is the sense of community that I think the devs were going for with these two new events, but failed.

And I'm gonna say it again - if these events were made extra tough in order to disuade the farmers and RMT'ers, then you have failed yet again. Those individuals will do whatever they have to to find a way around it, or go on and do something else to get what they want.

I just want to add my 2 inf that this was really hard for me to get badges on even two toons. (playing on virtue in non us prime time)

Compared with the fun, and activity of last years winter lord hunting this was really disapointing.

I really hope this type of event isnt a new trend of future ones (halloween banner followed by LoW).

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

I wonder if part of the problem with these new events is not the difficulty in itself (though it may need tweaking here and there) but rather the badging mindset of doing it once and then leaving the event alone as opposed to doing the event for the fun of it or at least trying to help others.

Actually, the toughness factor dovetails into this. And I pretty much said this in a PM I sent off to a redname with my concerns over the trend I was starting to see - first with the Hallowe'en banner event and then with the Lord Winter event - were that it was starting to bleed fun away from the game.

I mentioned how in years past, I would keep a team going until I was assured that all of my team had gotten everything: Cap Buster, Bane of Dannon, Toothbreaker, etc. But with these last two events, I fear that the mindset has been one of "Okay, I got the badge. But man, was that tough! I don't think I'll bother doing that again."

And it was more acute of a problem for folks over the Christmas Holidays, as there were probably more people who could not log into the game in the first week or two due to other RL events - one person over on another forum was saying that because of holidays with family, she wasn't able to get home and log back on until Jan. 5th - that there was more frustration in the final two weeks of this event.

Myself, I was able to get the badge on only 5 of my many alts, less then 5% - and two of those were during the 'live beta' sneak peek. This is in comparison to last year when I was able to find teams all through the event to kit out about a third of my alts.

I'm just worried about what, if any, 'new' content along these lines that is coming for next month?
