What makes players so much more involved in this game and its community than any other MMO are the CHannels. believe it or not, whether it be the RP Channel, TF channels, Badge, channel, etc. They all create a sense of community. |
Dawncaller - The Circle of Dawn
Too many blasted alts to list, but all on Virtue.
not to be a jerk.
Okay, I am with this... but... you seriously think WoW came up with this? BZZZT WRONG!!! Planetside had a cross-continent auto-join team feature for, well, couple of years now. In the Planetside system you could setup spots asking for a Medic, an Engy, a Pilot, a Combat Engy, and Advanced-Med, a specific vehicle driver, and so on. You could also state what the purpose of the team was for. Dropping Gens, taking towers, CC holds, Courtyard holds, and so on. At the time of it's inception, the Planetside LFT system was possibly one of the best aggregate Looking for Team systems implemented in any MMO. Unfortunately, many of the teaming improvements came after the dev team had successfully chased off the majority of the player base. |
I have soooo been wanting this to be added to coh for quite sometime.

You beat me to it. Yes planetside came up with the amazing Looking for squad tool. Where you can list your squads and people can auto join them. It sends you a request pop up or you can set to auto approve or auto approve for outfits (super groups in this case) only.

They saw the new PUG system in WoW and would like it here. It is called hey I see that, CoX should have that also.
Warhammer Online had this system in place since launch and it works well.
From the party point of view, it just allows people to join without a /tell popping up. From the point of view of the person wanting to join it's as simple as looking at the upper left hand corner of your screen and seeing which team is in your area, what they are doing (PvE, PQ or RvR(PvP)) and clicking on the one you wanted to join.
Of course, WAR also had references, which allowed a member of your party/team who was not the leader to invite a friend to join. The popup was a lot simpler than passing the star, and it told the leader that X member of the team has referred Y player to join and you, only as the leader, had to hit Accept or Deny.
I'm not sure on tihs one. I PUG a lot but like the option to actually call up the leaders name in Search and see excatly ho is inviting me to PUG. What AT, What level, what zone they are in? Last thing I need is everytime I click and show Looking for Missions I wind up on a team of people that don't know me at all or that on't even know each other. Usually on any PUG there are ay least a couple people that team together on a regular basis.
And what criteria do they use to form these "Auto Teams"? Some of the best PUGS I have ever been on where almost nothng but Controllers and Defenders. We had so many Beffs, DeBuffs, Heals, Holds, Immobs, and decent Damage that nothing, including an AV, stood a chance. I've been part of an all Controller KHTF that finished, with stealth of course, in less than 19 minutes. Did a Citadel TF with a team of 6 Blasters, one Tank and one very overworked Defender.. damage output was so high I swear at one point anout half way through I saw a Council Lieutenant try to wave a white flag but we shot it off before anyone could get a good look. LOL.
I'm also in the middle of a marathon of PUGS in Pocket D getting all the badges for my numerous (34) characters on Virtue. The new exemplar system is great but a 7 leve with a grand total of 5 attacks still only has FIVE attacks when you are facing a 50 level AV in Snaptooth. So what and who decides which Tanker I get on my Auto Team? I'n in PI doing AV missions do I really want a 9 level Tanker that WAS available but hasn't even had the opportunity to take TAUNT yet?
Sure there are BAD team leaders out there.. I was on one earlier in PocketD. Come on everyone in there is out for one of two things or both Badges/costume pieces and Candy Canes. XP is just a bonus and before this year the STANDARD was find a low level whatever and select their mission then go in with a handful of 50s and wipe the map. This guy had his difficulty set so we were facing level 53s .. even most of the minions were either Red or Purple. I was on with a 26 level Rad/Rad Defender and spent most of my time healing and rezzing the team because he had a 7 level, a 12 level and a 19 level, along with me and another character in the 20s . He was the ONLY 50 on the team and frankly the team just didn't have the damage output and accuracy to get the job done.
But I have also been with, a friended, GOOD leaders that carefully build their team with what is available and we tore through missions with ease.
A PUG is a PUG and while I am not against a Auto Feature I don't think I'd use as much as I would look for a good team to join and ROCK! Hey if its a bad team there is always the I QUIT button and go find another one!
Were always the good guys. In D&D, were lawful good. In City of Heroes were the heroes. In Grand Theft Auto we pay the prostitutes promptly and never hit them with a bat. Leonard
Those women are prostitutes? You said they were raising money for stem cell research! Sheldon

The new find a group system in WoW seems pretty awesome: * Cross realm (or in our case, cross server) * Allows you to choose a role (in their case - healer/tank/dps; in ours - aggro control/damage/support/debuff) * Join as a group or solo (possibly allow groups to advertise available spots and have the computer fill with LFG players) * Bonuses for teaming (in their case, you get an animated pet; in ours - maybe reward merits?) * Looking for raid (in their case, dungeons; in ours - TFs) * Smart matching I honestly think that many (not all) CoH players overthink things when forming teams and a system that streamlines and make getting to groups faster would be an excellent addition. I'd love to see a City of Hero-ized version of this |

I make some characters specifically for total trainwreck PuGs so I'd LOVE to see something like this.
Too often I accept a blind invite to a team that knows what it's doing and doesn't ever wipe. Don't these people understand that I'm looking for a team ready to implode under its own stupid? If you've slotted DOs you should be fighting +4s at minimum, noobs. Why else do you think I take my phase power as early as possible? Why else to I have repulsion field AND force bubble? Why else to I even HAVE an Ill/Storm?
Competent PuGs are endangering an entire sub-species of my character stable. I support anything that streamlines PuGing especially if it includes random matching and a "whatever" button.
The "pick a role" thing is vicious poison, and should be extirpated from gaming, not enhsrined in a mechanic.
Just saying.
My scrapper doesn't need an AoE. She IS an AoE.
The talk about what constitutes a PUG is kinda interesting. All my teams lately are formed from Virtue's excellent global channels, and only in very rare cases do I use the search function. I have never thought of the teammates from global channels as PUG members, but anytime I pick someone up from search I think of them as PUG members. I guess I run mixed-breed pug teams
Yes! I hate forming teams or joining a team and having someone ask "who is tanking" or "do we have heals." The entire idea of these roles is irrelevant in CoX.
So... quite a bit?
