Too easy to get? Absolutely.

Too powerful? I'm not so sure. It's great because everyone can hit the same 90% mitigation mark, avoid secondary effects, etc... However, the RNG not going your way can still get you killed, not to mention autohit powers, large tohit buffs, cascade def failure, etc.

I don't remember people saying that def was overpowered before IOs. I think it's just a function of how easy it is to get large amounts of it.

Im just gonna say this about playing a brute....

Dont do it.

Dont create one...dont slot one...dont level one....dont make "Hulk Smash" type mutterings when doing your day job because that just makes people avoid you (a different problem I know, but Im dispensing advice)

Playing a Brute is addictive. Its not a gateway drug, its the full blown give me a needle and some surgical tubing type. Youll probably get through the tutorial without feeling it..."Oh this is sorta fun" you'll think....

Then it will happen...at some point the right combination of inspirations and stupid teammates dragging too much back will make you do one of those last stand type moments. Youll have orange and blue shield icons underneath your suddenly long fury bar. Minions will rush at you, only to be destroyed by a single click of your level 1 attack. Lts wont last much longer, until its you and a boss...your shield icons long since a memory, the last blue insp just got sacrificied on the altar of SMASH. Your health bar blinking red, no chance....then blammo...your big attack hits with the force of a freight train. As the bodies around you disappear, your teammates will start rezzing. Someone will say "I cant believe you survived that"....youll smile...then notice that fury bar is growing smaller....panic will set in, but youll dismiss it. The next fight will be boring, then youll try to garner more aggro to build more fury. "Oh I didnt see that other group" youll say...but we'll know...we'll always know.

Dont play a brute.

That was beautiful, man.

Why, yes, I plan to solo the LRSF soon with my dm/wp brute. I have absolutely no idea if it's even possible. Gotta do the ever so boring act of getting all the buff accolades and finish the design. Then create an AE arc to learn which heroes will give be pause.

Be well, people of CoH.

It's not so 'easy' for the average player. Many of us feel its 'easy' to build a soft-capped SD or WP toon, but forget that most players don't have that kind of money (and IO's aint' getting cheaper...), and most players like to build up multiple toons. If they start nerfing the game because of what the best players are doing, or what the best players feel is 'easy', it will hurt this game severely.

I for one like being able to make very survivable toons, and obviously, the best way to do that right now is to build for defense. But even then, there's plenty of kryptonite out there that absolutely wrecks soft capped builds, and the devs have even allowed us to up the difficulty slider substantially if you want even more of a challenge. I think some of the people who claim it's 'too easy' aren't playing against the enemy types that can create a problem for defensive toons, or need to use the new difficulty sliders and up the challenge level, and stop cherry-picking opponents while farming on plus zero.

Don't the heroes spawn at lvl 53 or 54?

Think so. I'm far more concerned with their linked aggro and whether I can get around it.

In the final mission, the ones that will annoy you as a WP Brute (from my experience tanking it with a SM/WP):
  • Positron (Lingering Radiation... enough said);
  • Synapse (more for the endurance drain than the autohit Whirlwind);
  • Numina (because of what she's doing to the rest of them instead of what she's doing to you...);
  • Manticore (Teleport Arrow: at -3 (ie, level 50) does ~1455 unresistable damage).
Yes, while BAB, Citadel, and Statesman can create issues simply due to their ability chew through huge numbers of hit points in one or two attacks, those issues are typical of fighting +3 Hero-class mobs and don't really pose more problems for Willpower than they would for anything else.
As for the linked aggro... you can get around it, but it's very difficult as a Brute and even in a good scenario you should expect to see two-three at once.

She's the worse...you do NOT want her buffing any of the heroes. *cries while rocking back and forth*

Anyways. I started off playing COH in Feb. of 08 (A lot of buds hooked me up with trial accounts) during my first year I've played ONLY Ranged toons...melee did not interest me in the slightest...Until I too saw many postings of Brute SMASH! tm. Me being a lover of Mage Stuff I decided to go with a Magical Theme and my toon Thurston was born...he was a Elec/Elec and once I had the taste of smash I never looked back...it even made me switch to redside.

I also made a stalker b/c I like Stabbing my enemies in the face with a pointy sword.

I was playing my Claws/Invulnerability Tonight and After I killed a 4 spawn of Freakshow I felt so satisfied/pleasured from the SMASH! I had to ask for cigarette from my room mate. No, I don't smoke but after that skirmish I felt that good.

I've never seen her actually do this, but doesn't Numina have a rez in her arsenal of powers? I always took her out first on my solo LRSF attempts with a Mind Dom.

Has the LRSF already been soloed by someone?

Kahlan from Champion has soloed it a while back with a Mind/Psi Dom. I tried with a Mind/Fire, the last mission is just too unpredictable.

*Looks at thread title*
Brutes on paper?

I can barely keep them from going berserk and try to kill everything, let alone try to potty-train them.

Don't forget Positron's Overload. That's possibly the most annoying thing when fighting a Rad/Rad hero.
