I love dream builds, it is a great way to learn slotting tricks and have something to shoot for.
Any chance of seeing some of the alternative dream builds? -
I remember a post saying that you could... but it was pre-forum-reog.
It is mentioned here: http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/L...e_Strike_Force -
Quote:A high defense WP build is not likely to also have high recharge. If I recall correctly, it takes a good amount of recharge to manage the typical DM attack chain. If I am going for softcaping s/l/f/c/e/n on a WP, I'd probably go with a DM. That way the lower regen you're gonna end up with could be picked up by SL.
My top two picks for a high def WP build are:
1. Katana - Anything other than the very top attack chain is easy to achieve and divine avalanche can be used to cover for the lack of defense debuff resistance. The build I posted has 50hp/sec regen with 1 target in RTTC v.s. 80 for your build. A better builder might even be able to close that gap some.
2. Fire Meele - Scorch->Cremate->Scorch->Incinerate is an easy to achieve tier 1 attack chain. I can softcap s/l/f/c/e/n and still maintain 40hp/sec regen. This is my second choice because even though it has a better single target attack chain, the focus of a high defense WP build is survival and I think the katana build does that better.

Me neither... This is like a crossword puzzle for me, I enjoy trying to min/max WP builds. -
Scrapers aren't so bad if you pick an origin that can use YINs damage enhancements (Natural or Mutation)
-
If you're going to go for crazy, I vote for trying to reach softcap without using Divine Avalanche. My latest attempt was close, but not quite there. It's an interesting paper build, but I'm finding that in practice, swordfighting with hover on... is awkward.

17 AVs at once, because anything beyond that doesn't matter

That is helpful, thank you.

Quote:Does careful = use divine avalance, or is it more positioning/movement/other?Defense debuffs are probably not much worse than on some other secondaries. But yeah, it's certainly about as vulnerable to them as Regen can get. I'm turning out to really dislike defense debuffs on my soft-capped Dark Armor, but I knew it would be my Achilles' Heel. Just have to play more carefully in some situations.
The reason that I ask is that one of my dream builds is a FM/WP fully soft-capped with enough recharge to run the scorch->cremate->scorch->incinerate attack chain.
But I'm worried about how I could deal without having divine avalanche or defense debuff resistance. -
So who wants to be the one to tell Werner he has to update his Claws DPS spreadsheet since he didn't use the buildup procs?
I gave it a half hearted try, but the math debuff wouldn't stick and the excel formulas kept giving me grief. -
Thanks! I was going over this exact question for my dream claws build (BU procs vs regular).
-
I lurk a lot and read threads with specifics in them over and over...
So the effort to keep facts separated from opinions and dreams is very much appreciated. -
AAO and shield charge are big advantages, but there is also the defense debuff resistance. I'm not sure but I think the resistances are better on average in SD as well.

The build had 21 slots left over. It wasn't a real build. RTTC was chosen so late because it didn't contribute to defense, but it obviously needed to be in the build. It should be taken as soon as it is available in a serious build.
I do agree that skipping stamina is something I would respec into rather than leveling up from scratch.
If/When I do this, I will most likely use the 5th set of kinetic combat (at the cost of a slot or two) to free up two powers. Most likely for conserve power and something else. I might also slot cleaving blow into flashing steel and lotus drop to let me have complete freedom with slotting golden dragon fly.
Before building this, I'd recommend trying a character out that runs hover + combat jumping. It is a little different to be floating around with a sword. Of course, if you are rich and can afford the pvp def io, then I'd recommend hasten and going for a DPS attack chain. -
I threw this together for a different thread, but it applies here as well.
Here are some of my latest thoughts on softcapping WP.
1. Focus on Kinetic Combat, Cleaving Blow, Eradication, Aegis, blessing of zephyer and Rectified Reticle sets. They give the most defense per slot.
2. Drop the fitness pool (I may be lynched for this). You can more than half replace stamina with physical perfection (The performance shifter proc doesn't care....) and the extra pool power slots are worth a lot. You can either grab hover (if you are poor) or hasten (if you are rich).
Here is a build that uses both these concepts to reach 45% to S/L/F/C/E/N with 21 slots left to place. This is done without using the pvp defense IO. This is not a real build, just a demonstration.

For willpower, it is way better to go for typed defenses. I learned this the hard way after spending many hours trying to make positional defenses work.

Mids (I know, not 100% accurate) indicates that heightened senses has some debuff resistance.
-
What I am doing on my shield brute is to hit the single insp cap. 33% defense. That is the point where you can take a single purple and hit the soft cap. Filling up my tray with purples I can stay softcapped for about 30 minutes or more (purples drop as I'm fighting)
That is more than enough time to solo an AE farm mission to earn more money to buy more enhancements to get more defense so I can... -
The datachunk is helpful for people like me who can't get the datalink to work.
One other useful trick is that if you use the short forum export, the text of the build can be copied and imported into mids. The long export won't work for this.

Quote:Sorry, I was trying to keep it short, not cause trouble. My mid's dont wanna import it - weird, but a rough gues this is all plain based on /kin.
In that line, i would pick any other primairy of troller (or even a defender/corr) and they would possibly do the same. The 'succes' is pure due kin, grab a /rad or even /storm (dunno if that even is viable), and suddenly u can scratch quite a few options. (perm.hasten, speed, cap dmg).

The fact that fire/kins can self buff speed and damage lets the build focus on other things. I don't think tank, scrapper or blaster archtypes have a build that can cap S/L defense, cap damage, come close to HP cap, capable of achieving permahasten and do it for under 20 million. This sample build uses minimum level IOs to achieve everything I listed.
For the low end cost farmer, I don't think there is anything close to a fire/kin... unless it is a something else controler/kin.

I am sorry to hear of the loss to your family.
Concerning the build, I wouldn't be too quick to throw out the tank option. Shadow punch serves quite well as a set mule for kinetic combat, and the rest of the tanker build falls out pretty easily. If you think a tanker can produce the DPS to do the job, it wasn't much effort to hit the soft cap, especially after picking up a few hints from shred monkey's build (thank you).

This is a common mistake. GFC is great for positional defense, but for typed defense rectified recticle is much better. GFC provides 1.25 lethal/smashing for 6 slots, RR provides 1.88 for 2 slots. The bonus fire/energy/cold/negative defense from GFC doesn't help because willpower is already very high on those and can get more easily.
