Go to your local Big Lot! (or any other discount store) and buy it. Usually for $10 or less.
Edit: Oh, and are you looking for the Heroes or Villains Collector DVD Edition?

Check ebay and amazon too. One might show up now and then, just make sure it says factory sealed so you don't get burned.
Be warned, that there are European versions floating around out there.
Also, remember that you're looking for an intact account code. Not a five year old scratched compact disc.

One kept trying to tell me you could use the same code over and over again for the ingame goodies.

Just because a game is listed as "Used" on Amazon, doesn't mean the code has actually been used. A product gets thrown on Amazon's "Used" list as son as it's bought and gets put up to be resold, even if the box hasn't been opened once.
Now, I'm sure some of the copies listed as Used actually are, and I wouldn't advise anyone purchase from the Used list, but just because it's listed doesn't mean the lister is a scumbag.

On the CE sets, is the code in plain sight, or did they do like the GvE set and put it on a card with the code covered in silver Dreamonium? (you know, that stuff that goes on lotto tickets that you scratch off)
If it is a scratchoff code and the seller can verify that the stuff is intact, then opened and classed as "used" would be acceptable. Otherwise, the default would be to assume that the code is no good any more.
NC should implement a system so resellers can check and see if a code from an opened package is unused or not without having to try to apply the code to an account and thus render it unusable.

If it's not scratched off: You have a good code.
If it's scratched off: 99.999999999999999999999999999999999% sure you bought an already-used code.

Mine was not a scratch code. Mine was was printed on the inside of the disc case. For some reason there was a gold security sticker of some kind covering it. I thought I had been ripped off too, but I was able to peel it off carefully with a razor blade and revealed the code and it worked fine.

The box I got from big lots a couple months ago (um, maybe more like a year ago? haha) had a scratch card in it. I'm looking at it right now, in fact.

This is a once-a-year opportunity, but if you go to Hero Con, or have a friend who goes, you can pick up a Hero Gear Kit (for as long as they keep offering them, at least) for $20. This gets you the badge, the sprint, the cape, the physical goodies, and a month of game time. As far as the changes to your account are concerned, it's identical to getting a Collector's Edition.
