3rd Annual Mr. and Ms. Paragon City/Rogue Isles Costume Contest
I'm just wondering, what is the point of even registering at all if all the winners this year were walk-ins? Doesn't seem fair to me. But whatever, it's your CC.

On the account of score sheets. We do not release them. Specifically to protect peoples information and reputation. What does that mean? Well, if someone scored really badly do you think they want us to publicity post about it. If we disclaimed that initially and required pre registration and they had to agree to have their score released then sure. Just a note on the process, the Judges are not from Virtue, the person who tabulated the Judged Scores is not from Virtue and she was not even at the contest that night.
While with every contest someone or many someones are left wondering why they didn't win and I will try to sum it up. Having 3 judges agree numerically on 1 costume is a matter of chance. Different tastes, different styles different people. While thats not much of an explanation, we do it this way to try and be as fair and objective as possible to every contestant.

I don't believe this has happened, but there is the opportunity there for something like this to take place, and something you all should take a look at.
I think overall you ran a good contest, I just notice pitfalls such as the whole No Power rule which was not stated in the original post. Its all small stuff that gets blown out of proportion.
FYI, I would make a suggestion of removing that rule for next year outside of Shadowfall and Steamy mist only because of the color customizations that can be done with it, or else not allow the shields to be fair. Conceptual costumes can include anything that is changeable at ICON. Just a thought.

Just to clairfy, I wasn't complaining about the judging, but with the way this game works, Judges not being from Virtue is not a big thing really. It is easy enough to get around if You are say from Freedom and you are going to judge on virtue to tell a friend on Freedom to enter the contest with a character on Virtue.

As for the suggestions, there are plenty of revisions we will need to make for next year. Going Rogue will open up alot of options. Power Customization is something we have on the plate. We actually have a few ideas to allow players to showcase powers at next years contest. Basically score costumes then score powers. This is still very much in the air. We will probably go back to only Pre registration because of Heroes being villains and villains being heroes and so on.
Its not a perfect system, and I will be asking for suggestions on how to improve it after the finals.

Yaayyy!!! IwonIwonIwon!!! Thank you Perc and thanks to all the people and sisters who rooted for me, especially my space vixen sisters and my RL girlfriend who was by my side during the event and has come to visit me today for Christmas (which is why I will not be online much lately ). I will be on for an hour tonight later at the Chalet around 10 EST to meet with any well wishers .
Also, I want to say good job to the other winners and runners ups on the costumes.
I was wondering the same thing, but then I thought, "Well its so people who don't read the forums can be in the contest." Then I see the winners posting on the forums and wonder again.

Thanks again PERC, I can't wait to show off the title when Bell gets it.
Next question I guess is how am I asked the finalist questions? I guess I(we) will need instructions for that.

After rereading my previous post, I neglected to mention a few things about pre registration. We take a certain number of pre registered contestants per category (50). Those that pre register are guaranteed spots to be judged and will go first. After that if there is time we will judge Walk-ins. The disparity is far greater this year because so few actually registered.
Awesome costumes all! I entered as a walk-in just with the character I had on at the time ... not necessarily the one I think is my best looking character ... just to have fun! And you guys delivered. Had a great time!
I would be curious, if possible, to see just how I scored in relation to the winner for Mr. Rogue Isles. I was in as Shield Bot Beta. Definitely see why I didn't win though ... Dr. Grindhouse is just cool lookin!
I can see two reasons why Bellonda won her portion of the competition.
Those are some nice gams.

Seriously Dusk? Anyway, I'm not even mad I didn't win, partly considering it wasn't for any influence and partly because I would have missed the final CC anyway. I was just confused by having people register as well as having walk-ins. It's not that big of a deal lol.

An example I can give of this is DJ Shecky, who was late to the preregistration call, but was able to get judged even though we where doing the closing final call.
And also DJ Shecky, I would like to point out something of this contest... Even though you are right on the facts that we should allow powers since they are customizable through the Tailor I must stress that this is still a costume contest.
We allowed weapons and shields because they're not distracting to the costume itself as well as they're more customizable than they've ever been. If you are wielding a bow, sword, claws, a shield, or whatever else. I can still see your costume and judge you on that. It is difficult to see a costume if there is a fire shield on that character, or any other power like that. But not only that, as you can see we took screen shots of all entries, and sometimes there are those powers that denature the screen shot because of their animation. (Electric is a good example)
As Ice said, we are looking at a phase to see powers. We even discussed it as we were planning the event, and there was just not enough time to get that ball rolling and we would try to implement it in next years Mr. and Ms.. And further much so there will be Vigilantes, Rogues, and Praetorians to think about. Mr. and Ms. will be very different next year.
As you can see though, this game does change how we do this event.
Hope this helps, and once again thank you for participating in the event.

1) Denature. I see one of the runners up with an Aura. The aura's use the same particle system as some of the powers, and can cause the exact same problems that you describe. Therefore in all fairness, they should not be allowed. (You should see how bright some people's arua's are)
2) Last time I checked Weapons were power sets. Its a Dual Blade Power Set, a Sheild Power set. Someone can very easily, and have in the past, based their auras to be part of their costume.
The point being is that you really set up a double standard with the way you have explained yourself there.
I think the biggest problem that people have had is the fact that some of these rules were not stated in the original announcement or rules. Its a matter of consistency to allow a fair and equal opportunity for all.
Virtue as a server had been lukewarm to cold of P.E.R.C. from day one because of the way things have been presented to us by P.E.R.C. We have seen people try to act all overly important, and not very conciliatory.
Ice Knight put things in a very nice and succulent way in his post, and I am very appreciative of the hard work the PERC team put into this and the events they run.
To come back over the top with an explanation that at points seems to contradict itself in reasoning and logic does not help the situation overall. I know that we are all human and make mistakes (try listening to one of my shows and you will hear tons of them), but how you handle criticism is at least as important as what you have done right.
I look forward to seeing what P.E.R.C. can come up with next, as community projects are what make this game great. Good luck to you all.

Seeing the winner for Blueside, on Virtue Server, makes me think why the heck didn't I find out about this...
I could have entered my toon "Outback" in his CIVILIAN clothing and had a more heroic looking costume (Crocodile Skin Boots beat Cowboy Boots any day). Oh well, congrats to the winners, and good luck to you all
All my dislike of PERC aside , lets not start picking apart folks costumes please .
We all know by now how subjective these contests (and by contests I mean all costume contests ) are and no matter what costume they picked someone somewhere was gonna go "wtf how could they pick that costume "
also , love your avatar Outback
Let me put it into gaming words as to why we have preregistration lol... Preregistration works a lot like when you preorder a game. You are promised the game when you arrive at the store and whatever special thing attached. Alas, the only perk you get when you preregistered with us is that you're guaranteed to be judged on that night, no matter what. Therefore, once you're called first you are judged bing bang boom and you can go play for the uber loot.
An example I can give of this is DJ Shecky, who was late to the preregistration call, but was able to get judged even though we where doing the closing final call. |
Thank you. I hereby retract my question concerning registration.

I'm not sure how Dr.Grindhouse didnt win.....unless of course he didnt physically make it to the finals.
didn't see him there, but sadly he didn't

He never showed up !?!? /e sadface =(
Bottom line, winners won because they had a better costume. If that wasnt you...get over it.
Unfortunately there is never a way to prove it one way or another, so the argument goes on. Such is the nature of things.
