Hotdogs? I don't get it.
Are we really surprised there were problems again this year? I participated the previous two years and was extremely annoyed. So I avoided it this time. It only makes people mad and upset. Andra |
So it is. People are too competitive and too stupid to realize that they need to take these things in stride and its nto the end of the world if you don't win.
I've never one a costume contest, Heck I rarely win anything. I entered for the fun of it and if I win, then cool, otherwise Oh well.
They try their best to do something like this, with what looks liek a lot of new people inolved int he planning etc, and yeah things will not always seem to be the best. But they work their butts off just like anyone who tries to do things.
Cut em a break.

Oookay. I think I figured it out. You might want to put those down. You have no idea where they've been!!

Every contest makes people mad and upset. Every contest gets the sayings of "Run poorly, Voted for friends only, it was rigged"

It's called learning from your mistakes. That's something PERC has a hard time doing.

Then why was everyone dressed up?
No worries, Bayani. I bet you looked great with or without sparklies. You're a really good dresser.
I, on the otherhand, am a complete bonehead. I have the worst knack for running into people. So I log into the D for my dayjob and stumble across Nuc and strongarm him into joining with me because he loves dressing like a girl. So fresh Long story short, there's these really cute roleplay troupe hanging around the Vault dressed like bouncers. One is playing dead, one is pretending to swing a baseball club at the dead bouncer and one is just standing guard. We're chitchatting briefly, I think they're funny.. reminded me of CoJ back in the day. This is the funny part: So a perc rep walks up to the dead guy and runs the ninja pack / pushups emote.. Me, being the dolt that I am sent a message to my friend Nuc, saying, " Holy ***, that PERC rep just *** that guy." Except, since I had been also chatting with the bouncer roleplayers, it mt'd to the head bouncer! He laughed and said it was because her name was [left out, name that has to do with eating]. And I thought, ok, I'm red in the face because I don't curse to people I just met and well Nuc doesn't care. Except the bouncer was so funny that I did a global check to see who it was.. haha. It was Arkyeon. Now I'm red in the face because I'm talking to the event host about bleeps at his event. Man, I'm going to get bounced from every event from now on.
Oh no! Someone save that poor girl. That big guy is totally gona squish her! Someone should tell her their are easier way to win a contest.

Issue 24 PPM Calculator // The Great Makeover: The Vindicators
I just wanted to thank everyone that came out tonight. Winners will be announced on Wednesday.
As for the concerns listed in this thread. I could address them point by point, however after reading them for the fourth time, and coming to the same conclusion, no direct explanation would do. We run the event the same way on every server. The rules are the same. We strive to make it as fair as possible. The Judges do not play on the server they are judging to avoid bias. No member of PERC can enter the contest. If some of you do not like the rules, then run a cross server contest yourself. Walk in our shoes and I will support you 100%. I think it would be great to have a Cross Server event to this scale that I might be able to enter.
The point is, we are all volunteers and running this to the best of our ability. If that isn't up to what you want or expect, then prove it can be done better on the same scale.
So you DJ as well? I run events sometimes and have an idea for one sometime before the end of the year or start of GR. Do you ever DJ for player events? I promise I won't ask you to do pushups!!!

I used to run large events on Virtue, so I understand how difficult it can be. But I will say this, for every screw up or unforeseen mishap we ever had, and we've had tons, we took it forward to the next year and tried to fix it.
I don't care about winning either. In fact, the whole point of costume contests is pretty much the whim of the judges at that moment in time anyway. It's a crap shoot at best depending on the number of entrants. We've all seen the drama in Atlas Park broadcast on even the smallest scale.
It's about the experience and making it fun and fair for all. If those who entered this year had fun, then yay. But it's hard for me to see it after 2 years of being present myself to experience the problems and hearing the same complaints from different people (not my personal friends, either) again this year.
You have you your opinion. I have mine. That's all it is.

Wow...I'm glad I missed this. Shame too. I actually entered.
Guess I shoulda known Virtue would make it into B*tchfest 2009.
Way to go Virtue. Ya'll sure know how to deliver.

It's not about winning or losing. It's about organization. It's about being able to see 5 steps ahead. Yes, they do take the time to "step up" and run events, but each year the same things happen.
Being 5 steps ahead also includes asking about unclear rules before the contest starts. Not, showing up and assuming powers are allowed. Just about EVERY CC run does NOT include the use of powers. And seeing as how “each year the same thing happens” you should have expected some things would get a little chaotic.
Personally I think PERC did a great job and was very organized. Between the initial Grouping and being handed off to the judges, it was very well done. I had a great time and look forward to more events by them.
Well, yeah :P Nuc wouldn't believe me otherwise.

And yes I do DJ..... shoot me a PM and let me know what ur thinkin and see if its something we can handle
Thanks for running this event, guys! It took a long time from start to finish (I was one of the last six or so people to get judged!), but it was interesting to see all the people of Virtue come out of the woodwork. Us RPers in the Pocket D don't always get to see anyone else from the game, so it certainly brought the community together for at least one night.
Good luck to everyone who entered!
I heard they were bobbing for hotdogs ... or was it apples. I forget what the rules are this hour.
