Union's Demon Hunters

Further to the conversation I had with Pious today IG - although I don't have any characters, at present, who'd fit with this group, I'm more than happy to dream up some demons, ghosts, ghouls and other things that go BUMP! in the night for you to run into.

I haven't meddled with the MA lately (there's an arc that still needs a lot of work sitting there, looking at me...) but could always be persuaded to cook something up if you want IG shenanigans!

EDIT: I misread Liz's entry as Dessert Princess! There's a whole arc in that, you know...

The following names suggested here I like best...

- Malleus Maleficarum (A famous treatise against witches. Translation: Hammer of the Witches)
- Judicators (Literally means 'Judges')
- Nighthunters

If a second SG on villains is needed we can easily avoid using a dot behind the name by placing 'The' in front of any of these names. Its a trick I have done before.. and it works.

I am also not really in favor of an alt sg... as it is rather easy to make a rank called 'Alt of member'. Therefore keep all in one sg.. With a member count of 150 possible this is much easier to manage. Aside of that... Small scattered SG's is a prob on prestige gain. You will get in problems when you want to build a base.

I like this one .. it holds a nice ring...

Unfortunately Night-Watch is also the name of a Russian novel/film that kinda deals with this situation :-/

We're gonna run into problems whatever the heck we go with, really.

Nighthunters says it all for me. Without aiming too highly, the name is short and accurate to what we do and still sends a message of trepidation. It is removed from any religious implications and hints at a small collective of skilled peoples, which, considering the unliklihood of this theme ever attracting more than a dozen active roleplayers, seems just about right. The name even has an intriguing dark edge to it. Best of all, its available!

I also like Nighthunters, could easily be the name of a show/movie/game series.

Ranks set on function (ic) in the SG?

I like those rank ideas Bathory, it resonates the wearer's improving skill, without implying religious hierarchy. Good to see compromise in incoorporating suggested names as rank titles too. Remember though, that not all new members will have characters unestablished and in need of training, they might just be new to the group, so how about;

1. Newcomer
2. Tracker
3. Slayer
4. Judicator
5. Enlightened
6. Illuminated

So we have three levels of hunters: start as a tracker, then a slayer, and finally a well deserved mantle of judicator. But also allowing room for in-character spiritual ascension, meaning (without imposing religion) the chance of redemption and elevation after a long hard time of cleansing the Earth of its demons and evil creatures. Game mechanic wise, those two ranks are leadership stars anyway, so big trusting promotion there.

Newcomers - typically joins the team at skill level 01 - 09+, with little prestige.
Trackers - hunters ranked at skill level 10 - 25+, with at least 100 points of prestige.
Slayers - hunters ranked at skill level 25 - 40+, with at least 10,000 points of prestige.
Judicator - hunters ranked at skill level 40 - 50 with at least 100,000 points of prestige.
Enlightened - hunters chosen by the team for being among the most dedicated to the cause.
The Illuminated - the chief huntsman who must, without fail, bring direction to the team.

ok i fully admit this is just me IC for my toon , ..can we not use the slayer as a rank , how about seeker ,of warden , or solider ,or combater , or what ever ..

Warden rank sounds good, and replace Newcomer with Associate...that way its a tad more flexible.

Other than that, I say I think we're ready to get this show on the road, the SG name is starting to grow on me

Any chance we could have Rank #5 as Inquisitor and Rank #6 as Enlightened? I just think Inquisitor has a better ring to it.

Inquisitor both sounds cooler and fits the theme very well, so I second that motion

Hnn...Inquisitor sounds too religious/Warhammer based, maybe that's just me...
Some reasonings;

1. Associate - The newest members, those who have not proved their worth or who only work alongside the group occasionally.

2. Tracker - The go-to members, who hunt down the supernatural wherever it lurks. The high-ups point, they track, trap and terminate.

3. Seeker - Specialist and elite Trackers. Seekers dont just track marked targets, they hunt down anything that registers on the list of targets, mostly under their own volition.

4. Judicator - The 'SWAT' of the group, the heavy hitters and trusted exterminators. The beings of the night and darkness know to fear these individuals.

5. Enlightened - The 'officers', those who have not only faced but understand the true nature of the Darkness, and are still standing. Where they walk, shadows retreat in fear.

6. Illuminated - The Illuminated is not so much the 'master' as the elected leader of the Enlightened, the spokesperson of the group. They bear the metaphorical light of the group, that burns away the Darkness and stands out as an example.
