Union's Demon Hunters

In the past, there has been a few roleplay supergroups put together to hunt monsters and I think it's about time to give it another go. So to guage interest in this, how many of us remaining RP'ers have heroic characters who are enemies to or hunt down monsters, and whats their reason?

We're talking vampires, werewolves, ghosts, demons, spirits, fae, Devouring Earth, Hydra, Rikti, Rulaaru, Vazhilok Cadavers, Vazhilok Abominations, Circle of Thorns spectres, Hellion demons, Banished Pantheon spirits, even Council robots, Nemesis or Clockwork machines, etc.

i have a toon who's whole concept is demon/spook hunting ...Hellskeeper ..she is in the union handbook ..

I have a few character slots that are floating semi-occupied by characters that I liked at the time but I'm not sure I'll keep.

Sounds good Alpha and you know something Rock, Hellskeeper is definately my kinda girl. Sounds like she's a human Angelspawn like Priest. Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what kind of team would set out against demons and monsters, and why. Thinking about how they might have met each other and what motivates them to work together. So far, I've been researching the medieval Knights, the soldiers of old who held the principles of faith, loyalty, courage, and honour. A job that mythically, brought them face to face with dragons and other foul creatures. In a more modern setting and based on Paragon City lore, we're probably looking at affiliates of the Midnight Squad. Maybe these hunters are called together by Salamanca Mayor Gordon Bower to help save his village and then work further to save others in peril from the supernatural. We should probably aim to keep it grounded, as normal or believable as can be, however 'deep' into the supernatural we go, plotwise and characterwise, like the American TV show with Sam and Dean Winchester. Anyway, let me know what you're thinking on that. These are some SG names I'm cooking, trying to keep it within a supernatural, knight, order, midnight squad, assassin's creed, anti-Court of the Blood Countess type thing. Any ideas?

Ok, this sounds very much like what I was going for with "The Hunters Guild" I had started up: fighting off monsters, dealing with evils of world, stopping magical events which would cause "end of the world" etc..

Of course this fell quite flat on it's face as no-one got interested in it. However it is still there with a backstory/ a few bits of artwork I did for it and of course my character Drade (well he's near enough about in a sense).
So I don't know what effect this will have on your idea Pious, but i'll help out if you want.

I have a character who's just an overall trophy hunter and is pretty fun to RP. Her name is Ava Sixx and is an ex-mechanic with questionable mental stability. She uses a rifle and various gadgets to get the job done. That fit your criteria?

Sounds like Ava Sixx is good for the job Phantom, we'll have to check her out I guess. I've been meaning to look you up Shadowe. I always had a keen eye for your Hunters Guild and would be glad to work something out. Drade's team seem to have vast resources and a long history, is this correct? Is this sort of setting appealing to you guys who're interested?

I did have a 'similar' organization running, however it was destroyed by an evil wicked troll, a mind reading witch, a vampire bat, a were hedgehog, a horrible little imp and a blue skinned fetish zombie!

Personally, I wouldnt looks too much into Knights and such. Story book knights (in shining armour) were mostly made by the Victorians, and aren't a good representation, where as real knights could be right...uhm...well, not nice people.

I'd aim for something a bit more like the Helsing organisation from the Manga and Anime. They do what it takes to get the job done, including a vampire on their side. Course, it does help that it's Alucard who does happen to be rather the badass.
Holy bullets, really big guns, enscorceled swords and as many black trenchcoats as you can cram in. Oh, and dog collars...why do we not have that option yet?

I have a hero toon as international hero idol who is a living prison of an evil dzinn... Desert Princess. She is in no way a fan of demons. And a Assault Rifle/sonic toon that can easily be fitted as he doesnt have a bio yet... El Mariachi...

Ofcourse I have the Court of the Blood Countess that you automatically set as ic enemy here. Whahahahahahaha... foolish mortals...

Just to clarify Hellskeeper a little ..she is more a conscript than a hunter , in that she does not spend her time out looking for the badguys , but get sent messages to go deal with a situation, reactive more than proactive ..

also ,ignoring game power sets , her attacks are divine flames , not fire in the combustion of flamables type fire ..in other works she can stand in a pool of petrol and not set fire to it ..

..and she is religious with a small r , not any sort of church going holyer than thou fanatic .

She does have a big shinny axe ....


As to SG names..she would consider all those listed as the tittle of some Zone Horror TV channel late night straight to video film ..and a bit silly ..some thing one word and kahpowie is more her taste ...

I don't have a demon hunter character and any I roll could end up some awful mixture of Dante, Hellsing's Alucard and a less moronic Richie that could end up being an insult to the server's collective intelligence. D:

That or I could always give Hellhog something to do besides tinkering with his bike or something. *scratches head*

hmm.. if the PPD can have 'To Protect and Serve' we could go with 'To Search and Destroy' as SG name.

Making the SG name sound like one specific religion might not be a good idea. Unless we're funded by the Vatican. Desert Princess is Muslim... and a lot of other cultures and religions know about demons, vampires and the likes.

A monster hunter SG is not religion bound... although I gather it will often be the religious types doing the hunting. But that can be from any religion.

Oh.. I was thinking of an IC way to get together and thought that Liz her origin arcs could work well. They start with a gathering by the Menders. In our case the Menders would just gather several specialists on demon and vampire hunting.

We do the jobs... and afterwards we stick together as team.

It is like the origin of the Avengers.. but with a twist. What do you think?

(ps. My origin arc(s) is two parts and involves hunting 'real' demons, vampires, ghosts, mages, and monsters)

I like it, but shall we have Montague Castanella from the Midnight Squad gather us for tasks instead? I think its time we got this idea up on it's two feet. I'll begin a forum roleplay title for us to join and continue to use this for OOC chatter. Any objections to us being known as Slayers and working by an Order of the Seven Saints?

Names , names ..always the hard bit ..

Hellskeeper does not see her self as killer or slayer , though she is quite happy to knock the stuffing out of the bad guys ...and her religious link is played as the Divine Powers ..never naming any specific religion or deity ..and refers to the baddies as the Powers of Corruption ...

She would see herself and any group as protectors or guardians , a group who save people/world .. technically her "job" is to stop the dammed returning to this world , and to deal with any incurtion by servents of the Corrupt Powers .

Why nail it too much to a canon group? The only ones that can really get away with it are the really big ones, namely Arachnos, PPD and Longbow. Making individual characters members of Ouroborous or Midnighters and suchnot is easy enough, but when you get into groups theres so much canon and so many toes to tread on.

i agree with Techy , let us avoid to close a link to any in game canon group , causes to many woes ...

cant say i am sold on any of the names so far , but as i cant think of any better ones ,so i am happy to go with what ever you all like ..

You could have a character -like- Castenella gather you all for a mission.

You know some powerful mysterious old guy who for whatever reason your character is going to listen to.

Opens up a whole bunch of new plot options to if you throw his motives as questionable.

Plus it gies you total freedom instead of possible canon clashes.

Good point. I'll think of a suitable contact for us then. In the mean time, I've made the SG in-game and used some of the name suggestions as rank titles to compromise. I'll be opening the RP thread soon. Here's a list of members so far;
