Very frustrated with Best Buy

I preordered Beatles Rock Band from Best Buy. When it was released on September 9th, I did NOT pick it up, for a couple reasons, including the fact that I was very sick with an upper respiratory infection. On September 14th, I received an email thanking me for picking up my order.

I called Best Buy’s 800 number about it, and was informed that the store had made an error and they would fix it. The next day, I received an email from Jessica informing me that they were very sorry for the error, that she would fix it, and that she would send me a gift card to make up for it, and promising to contact me within a couple days to confirm the details. I never heard from Jessica again.

I called Best Buy weekly after that, letting them know that I had not gotten my money back and I had not gotten the promised gift card. Each time, I was promised that the gift card would be on the way.

On October 4th, I finally received word that my account had been credited back for the purchase, but still no sign of the gift card.

On October 14th, I spoke to Donald at Best Buy customer care and explained the situation to him. He told me that at no point had there ever been a request for a gift card for me, but that he would put in the request himself. Donald was an interesting choice for a customer care representative, as he was really not terribly personable, and was more than a little off-putting. To his credit, however, he DID get the request in.

However... as of November 18th, there was still no gift card. I called customer care again and spoke to Joseph. Joseph informed me that the request for a gift card for me HAD been put in as of October 17th. He told me that it can take 2 - 4 weeks for a request to go through and that I should call back after 4 weeks had passed. I then pointed out that it was November 18th... kinda like more than 4 weeks had passed. I asked him how long I should wait before calling back again, because at this point, I was not convinced I was ever seeing that card. He asked me to wait until the end of this week, since if they had to cancel the request and put in a new one, it would take ANOTHER four weeks.

What’s really ironic about this... I wasn’t originally angry. They fixed the problem I called about originally. If no one had offered the card in the first place, I’d be ok with Best Buy. They made a mistake, they fixed it. However, by offering me a card and never sending it... Well.. I haven’t set foot in a Best Buy since before September 9th. At this point, if I ever do get the gift card, I might just give it away as a Christmas present to someone, since I don’t know that I’ll ever shop there again. This has been a very unpleasant experience.

Truth. I just don't go there now unless it is absolutely something I can't get elsewhere.

Bought my tower through them as they had amazing deals. Once I paid off my card I cancelled the account due to their customer service. Runaround for 5 hours transferring and calling several different numbers just to change 1 letter in my postal code. You must not like the person if you'll give them the gift card to put them through the same grief you've experienced. heh

I bought my laptop from Best Buy when I graduated high school. I had to go to the store I'd ordered it from, only to turn around and go to another store in the next city over, only to pick up the actual laptop there and be told to go back to the original store to have the extra memory I'd ordered installed. The tech folks there made me leave my brand new laptop with them for a week so they could install one stick of DDR2 memory, which doesn't take ten minutes, but it would violate the warranty if I did it myself. I left the laptop, picked it up a week later, and it already had scratches on it. I didn't see this til I got it home and out of the box (the first time I'd even touched it!) and when I called them to ask about it they said I must have dropped it. The scratches weren't a huge issue for me since they didn't affect the laptop's performance, so I gave it up. After that, couldn't figure out why nothing worked right on it for the longest time. Turns out they sold me an EU model that was never supposed to be released in the States and so the US drivers wouldn't work properly with the hardware (of course). At the point we figured that out, Charlie and I built my desktop PC, since by that point the laptop had completely fried anyhow (all the fans burnt out at once) and I wasn't incredibly willing to go back to Best Buy to see if they'd honor the extended warranty on it.

If it weren't for all the people who'd lose their jobs, I would hope they'd go out of business. As it is, I'm hoping they get picked up by new management. BETTER management.

Best Buy, Where your actual best buy is somewhere else!

We have kind of a funny situation here in Quebec (I don't know if it's the same in the rest of Canada): there was this chain of electronic/appliances stores called "FutureShop", which got bought by BestBuy a few years ago...

... but they decided to keep all the stores under the "FutureShop" name open, even when they started to open brand-new Best Buy stores. Even funnier, they would still open new FutureShop stores from time to time (I don't know if they still do).

So, in some malls (ex. Centre Laval, in Laval near Montreal), you can have 1 FutureShop and 1 Best Buy a few hundred feet from each others'.

From the few visits I've made to Best Buy stores, they have more or less the same inventory, but their prices are usually a few bucks higher that FutureShop.

Sooner, if they aren't actually holding onto your money, I'd just write it off at this point. Anything further is just going to be an exercise in aggravation and immersive stupidity.

Save for a couple impulse buys, I rarely ever set foot in Best Buy anymore. They're too interested in being a "sales boutique" to really cater to ANYONE once the actual sale has gone through.

Futureshop also works on commission, while Best Buy doesn't. I've never had a problem with Best Buy, but I used to work with one of the managers there, so I have a bit of an 'in.' I hate Futureshop though.

I am going to have to go against the grain here and say that the Best Buy here in College Station is a great place to shop. Everytime I go there they all seem upbeat and chirpy and I usually have three different people asking if I need help. . .not sure if I look totally lost or of I look like I want to rob the place blind...but I appreciate the asking

The geek squad though....on the whole they are also friendly but...well...I have to wonder....

I bought my computer from Best Buy and bought the extended warrenty. I knew my video card was ailing but it worked, and I kept finding reasons not to take it in. Last week the colors went splat and I found myself looking at a blue screen with text telling me if I have never seen this screen before to restart the computer, and if I still see it after the rebooting then I have a problem.

My husband took it to Best Buy on his way to work.

The Geek who handled the problem got the computer started, saw the same message, and told my husband everything was broken and I needed a new computer.

When told I had bought the warrenty, he looked it up, and told my hubby they would have to send it out to whereever they send very sick computers.

And darn it all, I am posting this on a very old computer and somehow my post posted itself....growl.

Anyways, My hubby told them fine send it away.

And when he told me about that conversation, I am glad they did send it away. I do not want that dingbat working on my baby.

Now...I wonder if I can cajole my hubby into reading a book so I can get some playtime in...

Lisa- does not like this eight year old Dell.

Yeah. GeekSquad doesn't do any warranty work in-house. Heck, if it's more complicated than installing an OS or an app, or swapping in memory, they outsource it.

In Brossard, the Future Shop and Best Buy are almost close enough to share the same parking lot. The FS was moved from Taschereau Blvd, expended, and then a Best Buy built right next to it to keep it company.

My LCD TV was damaged (depression on panel itself - crushed a bit and smudged pixels) by the aforementionned FutureShop during a repair (sent in on extended FS service plan) and it was iffy for a moment as to whether they were going to go with repairing/replacing it, or just sticking by the "but you signed for it, implying you checked it" spiel.

Thankfully they opted to fix it, even if that meant another month or so without a TV for me.

I got the impression Best Buy had better prices in my area. I never had a bad situation occur with BB yet.

If you think Best Buy has amazing deals, you have no idea how to shop for technology.
They're consistently 10-20% higher than almost every vendor I use.

I only go there when I need something TODAY.

Still no gift card. I am currently being transferred around the customer care people. As of this moment, I've been on the phone over 45 minutes. At least one person is not so happy with me.

EDIT: They have no idea why I haven't received it. So.. they're "canceling" the one they say they sent, and are sending me another one. Which is arrive in 2-3 weeks. So much for using it for Christmas shopping.

Back when the Wii was new, I went to Best Buy almost daily trying to get one.... this was after the holidays. I finally got some news that a shipment of 10 Wii's were going to a particular store and the day they would arrive.

I went to the store and waited for 4 hours. I was there before the shipment arrived. Everyone there had even asked me if I needed help with anything. I told them what I was waiting for.

The store shipment arrives and after about 2 hours I ask one of the mangers if they could get me a Wii as I had been there a good part of the day. He went back to see about getting me one. A short while later a CSR came up to me and said that they did not get any and that I should try in the afternoon tomorrow as another shipment was to arrive.

No big deal.

So I come back the next day. Went to a clerk and asked if the shipment had arrived, he said yeah but all the Wii's had come in the night before and all sold out within 10 minutes.

Needless to say I was PO'ed. I wanted a freaking Wii. So I called Best Buy and they said they could not make any exceptions for me as it was a hot ticket item. I explained that I had waited patiently and the store employees had lied to me. They then offered me $500 dollar gift card for my inconvience. I took it, and that was the last $500 I spent in Best Buy.

I didn't even get to use the $500 for a Wii either.
