    Happy Holidays.

Hey guys, just before we go... I'd like to remind everyone that with the holidays coming, not everyone gets to enjoy a great Christmas.

If you can toss a little extra cash, or canned goods, or any kind of much-needed supplies or even your time to your local charity, not only will it make you feel good, but you'll be someone's hero.

Soup kitchens, children's charities (my favourite is Child's Play), food banks, even animal shelters could all use your support this time of year. Personally, I like to donate some litter, toys and treats to the shelter where we got our beasties, some canned goods to the local food bank (staples like PB, canned veggies, and some nice cake mixes as a treat), and hat/scarf/mittens sets to the local clothing drives.

Heroes help the less fortunate. (Don't be a villain and take from them!)

    Happy nondenominational holidays.
  2. Protector Server on Google+

Not sure if anyone uses it or not, I know there are a few people who follow it.

You can pretty much consider that my contact info.

I can be found on Guild Wars 2, Darkhaven server (I think) as Riverdancer.
I may also be on SW:TOR. I can't remember what server, Ebon Hawk, I think. Forum name is Zoot Suit. Or, google+ above.

I made some excellent friends here - ones I would be proud to share a beer with at a bar, play poker with, or just shoot the **** in a coffee shop.

Good thoughts to Disney. Also, buy a Mercedes Lackey book. For those who don't know, she's not only a player, but spearheading the drive to get Disney to buy CoH. Excellent writer, excellent gamer, excellent person.

Much love and peace to you all.

So you posted about it and tried to take everyone else with you too?
  4. I know a couple people are going to be doing this - bumping it in case others would like to get the badge as well.

    Bump!
  5. How in the HELL do you fail a Lamda?

    Several people are considering it.

How many people on Protector have that badge btw?
  7. Your trial may go better if you made sure people had the slots slotted and not just unlocked. If memory serves, you're going to be fighting what, a +5 or higher AV? Having the slot filled with a power probably would mean the difference between failure and success.

I'm making a point of not spending any additional money for gems for All The Cool Things since I can convert ingame currency to gems. ^^ This.

I am enjoying the hell out of the game, and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's fun. Will I purchase out of pocket in the store? Probably not.

But honestly, it's not the game for me. Fun is good, but I'd be just as happy in WoW (yes, with the Pandas), or SW:TOR, or RIFT, Age of Conan, or any other MMO as long as the people that made CoH FUN for me to play were there. Home is where your heart is, and your heart is where your family and friends are. I got lucky in that I consider mine to be both. Note: Some of my family here haven't come over to the dark side, and I miss them terribly every time I log in. [you know who you are]We miss you an awful lot. Please come home.

I read somewhere that the average lifespan of an MMO is about 4-5 years, so if that's true, City of Heroes had an excellent run. Sure, I'll miss it (lord, how I miss travel powers!), but in the end, it's still just a bunch of pixels on a screen. My friends are real, and we can be pixels anywhere. It's being pixels together that counts.

Umm. They said it's done. They tried and it didn't work.

Boycotting NCSoft won't hurt their bottom line in the least.
  10. This was posted yesterday by the nice folks at NCSoft:

So long and thanks for all the fish

We wanted to let you know that your voices have been heard and your concerns have been taken into serious consideration. We appreciate the overwhelmingly constructive and positive messages in the emails, notes, and packages you've sent in support of the game. It has not been an easy decision for us to close Paragon Studios® and prepare to shut down City of Heroes. We've exhausted all options including the selling of the studio and the rights to the City of Heroes intellectual property, but in the end, efforts to do so were not successful. City of Heroes has a special place in all of our hearts, and we want to ensure its reputation and the memories we share for the game end on a high note.

Once again, we will be holding events throughout the process of preparing for the game's end, and we encourage players and fans of the franchise to join forces and enjoy their time in a game that we've enjoyed supporting for more than eight years.

    The NCSOFT® Team

I don't believe they were ever going to sell the property, and I think there's a LOT of PR spin words in that release. <shrug> Bullcrap and lies are in orange.

Anyway, it's been a slice folks.

If you're interested, a few of us are playing Guild Wars 2 on Darkhaven server. I'm Riverdancer.

    Guild Wars 2

I've played WoW. I played Rift for a while cos it was free to play to level 20 - THAT'S a WoW clone.

GW2 is not a WoW clone at all. There's always something to do! Lots of zone 'boss mob' events, lots of exploring, there's your own personal story line quests (which you control through decisions which affect the story line), there's zone quests, exploration... The skill system is different from WoW. A lot of care went into this game, and it shows. It's a lot of fun.

    Guild Wars 2

I admit it. I bought it. I installed it. I am playing it. And I am LOVING it.

It's gorgeous. It's lush. It's detailed. It's not a linear progression. I learn something new about how my character works every single time I play her. It's confusing, but so much fun. It's a slow progression and my character is a work in progress, not a race to the level cap. There is always something going on. Did I mention it's GORGEOUS? Oh man, it's spectacular!

I know there's a lot of NCSoft hate right now. I wasn't too pleased to pay for the game, but after having started playing it, I am so glad I did.
  13. Ever since we found out the game is going down, I've seen post upon post of goodbyes and stories of friendship.

The friends I have made here are some of the best friends I've ever had. They make me laugh. Their sarcasm is my sarcasm. They have the same ridiculous sense of humour I have, see the same bullcrap I do, and for the most part, they have the same ideals that I do. They are absolutely precious to me.

My mother passed away at the end of March (unexpectedly, but not suddenly) after being diagnosed with COPD.It was not a good last couple of years, in fact it was downright craptastic (I wouldn't wish COPD or a family member with alcoholism on anyone).

There were some good times during the days, but I looked forward to the evenings. Sooner, Major T, Frosty, Elric, Huron, Iron General, Tsuki, Vyx, Lant and anyone else I forgot were with me through the worst time of my life, and always made the horrible days a little bit brighter and made me smile. It sounds corny (and I HATE corny) but it's true.

I met my best friend through this game, and some really, really good friends that I wouldn't trade in even if it meant I could save CoH. I can't imagine any of you not being a part of my life and I don't even want to try. I love you all.

Welcome back, sir. It's good to see you. Very good to see you.
  15. Been trying Rift to see what it's like. It's a fantasty based MMORPG. It's free to play til level 20, so there's nothing lost by trying it out.

They say that home is where the heart is, and since my heart is with my friends; wherever they go, it's home.

  17. I know not everyone digs Facebook, so I started a google page for Protector Server.

It's really nothing fancy, but it's a place to try to stay connected.
  18. Ive been here since Aug, 04. I have a lot of great memories of this place and I expect you do to.

    Let's share them here.

Costume themed Hami Raids- the time Thirsty copied my costume and there were two of me!

I have more, but it's your turn now!

    Congratulations on the badges!
I would think that during the middle of a badge run and tough fight where coordination and attention is required that you would not be spending time giving fortunes to people. Surely you can find something else to do during a badge run when there's a battle ongoing. Perhaps using an attack power or a debuff on your teams' assigned target instead of spending time tossing out fortunes to people would be a better use of your time and would help the league more than a random buff (or chance for a debuff) on one player per minute.

That's true, but it's not like the leaders are going to be like "stop killing too fast or we might get <badge>!!

Plus it does give you the chance to learn the fight and strategy for later; plus gives you the chance to be a lead tank on a later badge run if all goes well.

    It's win-win!

Most leagues start off with Lambda, BAF, Keyes, and TPN, before finishing the evening/night with one or two Magisterium trials. The trials are most often led by either Talbien or Huron, and occasionally I have lead them as well. On occasion (to shake up the monotony) an Underground, Mom, or DD will be run instead.

If you're around during the week, there's always this option!
  22. Are these run during the week at all?

If I wanted to get some experience tanking the Magi run and learn the different AVs, and strategies, this would be the perfect time to do it.

Edit: And by run through the week, I mean just any Magi run - not necessarily a MO run.

I should be able to go - I am working on getting my dark/dark defender up and running at +3 for this.
  24. You need to learn to play with your feet, sir.
