'Shipping the NPCs

And on the hand ...

Let's 'ship the NPCs. Who do you think hangs out, dates, or should date? Who would you set up on a blind date if you could ...

Some of my suggestions:

Statesman/Doc Delilah- I think that if Statesman ever gets over his grief over his wife to date again, he's going to have trouble with a relationship. For the last 70 years, the world has seen him as a savior, a parental figure-- how many women are going to look at him in a romantic like? It'd be like Santa trying to hit the dating scene ...

I think that Doc Delilah would find a man who's seen so much history-- he's been to Tartarus for gosh sakes!--- fascinating. They may or may not wind up in a romantic relationship, but I can see them definitely enjoying each other's company.

Mynx/Synapse: After doing the villain storylines about them, I just think that these two have one of the greatest "Moonlighting" relationships in the COX Universe. Neither one of them would probably ever be willing to act on it, but the only other relationshp that means as much to Synapse would be Positron (his heterosexual life partner).

Back Alley Brawler and Facemaker-- the only reason I mention these two is that I'm still ticked that my villain once "rescued" BAB's girlfriend from some baddies and he didn't even give me a lousy DO for it.

He deserves to suffer for that.

Since I script a comic series about this kind of stuff, I've thought about it a lot.

Skipper LeGrange and Katie Hannon seem like an obvious pairing, once Skipper moves out of his mother's basement. Something about the pairing of the geeky man-child and the wise immortal appeals to my sense of symmetry. And humor.

See arc #30242, "The Love Talker," for a minor subplot about this. It played a much bigger role in the original Kid Eros script on which the MA arc is based, but I had to rework the story to make the player the central character and keep within the limits of the MA tools.

***

Speaking of Kid Eros, in another story, Kid is forced to seek help from Mender Tesseract, and the following exchange occurs:

TESSERACT: Well, if it isn’t Paragon City’s Sickeningly Saccharine Supercupid! What are you bothering me for? If you think you can set me up with someone, think again!

KID: Well, now that you mention it, I have noticed the Pilgrim looking at you –

TESS: Shut your immortal pie-hole, godling. We both know I’m not going on any dates this epoch.

KID NARRATING: Too bad. Tesseract might be almost bearable with a decent man in her life. On the other hand, anyone I found for her would never forgive me.

***

In the past, I have suggested that there may have been some kind of relationship between Lord Recluse and Red Widow. If so, things obviously didn't end well.

Jenkins and Fusionette....THEY ARE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER!!!

I can never figure out why Faultline is with her...

P.S. I absolutely despise your terminology for relationships...it makes me cringe everytime I see the half-word "ship".

Love the quote (not mine, Katie's). I didn't know she was registered . . .

Anyway, I always got a sort of "teenaged savant" vibe from Katie. Your Mileage May Vary.

I am generally nauseated by people cuddling and procreating in their NPC slash stuff, but whatever floats your boat. Probably if someone did a decent job, I would be impressed instead of amused.

Hardcase / Mage Killer Zuhkara: This seems logical. Both hunt down mystical and supernatural trouble-makers. Hardcase is a straigt up bad@$$ and takes part in his jobs just like Zuhkara. They would make wonderful Code 1011's together.

Wretch / Ghost Widow: There's more here than it seems at first look. Wretch was the only other living thing left when Belladonna was dying. Almost like "Love At Last Sight," I think Belladonna died loving Paolo. And since "the dead do not change" (which has been repeated in every GW arc), GW might STILL be in love with Wretch, but unable to do anything about it because though though she loves him, she CAN'T change. She can't make new connections with him, etc etc. Plus he might be too dumb.

Edit: Dumple cranky! Dumple SMASH!

Yeah, I don't know where (or why) this got started. I see "Shipping the NPC's" and the first thing that comes to mind is :

Using Google Search for "UPS Girl" gave much more favorable results though.

Now that sounds like something I'd like to "ship"...noted for an after-work internet excursion!

Yes, this.

When I saw the parallel "shipping your toons" thread, I thought it was about server transfers.

I think my biggest problem with it is that an apostrophe can be used to substitute one, maybe two letters. YOU DON'T USE IT TO SUBSTITUTE EIGHT LETTERS SPREAD ACROSS THREE ******* SYLLABLES!!!

I rather thought that the term was ubiquitous enough that an explanation wasn't necessary. In my opinion, it specifically refers to OOC/non-canon discussion of said relationships, rather than saying "OOC/non-canon relationships." Shippers works for me.

David and Mary.

I tend to see wandering outside city hall in atlas all the time. I always see their eyes meet but they're too shy to hello or even wave at eachother. It is our duty to make sure their eyes meet!

Ubiquitous where?

I had never heard it prior to these 2 threads and had the same reaction as Karl & BBQ. It's very grating.

I sometimes like to engage in this kind of speculation, trying to extrapolate beyond the last page of a book. I was kinda amused by the line of books out now about the further adventures (as detectives, no less) of Fitzwilliam & Elizabeth Darcy. Those types of stories are my favorites in the MA.

In general fandom. Which is to say that it's spread liberally across huge swaths of the internet. Generally the same areas that are very concerned about what would happen if Frodo and Spock had children together.

Pedobear and Santa go way, way back.

If you spell out "relationship", you lose the all-important ability to make related puns. Abandon ship, Die for our ship, Cargo ship, Toy ship.

This. Maybe I spend to much time on TVTropes but using ship now seems perfectly normal to me . In fact I think almost every entry on TVTropes with ship the title is about shipping. The only exception I can recall off hand is Failed to Pay Shipping Charges (which could be used as the title for a shipping related page if people wanted)

As a joke in my head I once paired up Arbiter Sands and Nocturne based on a clue Sands leaves that mentions him needing to confront Nocturne about trying to kill him, and bringing a card and flowers as a backup plan.
It kind of went like this:

Sands: *Mutters* Okay... Plan B. *To flunkies* Did you bring the card and the flowers? And why are you dressed like the Beatles?

Flunkies: We're in a tribute band together, mind if we practice a little? Also, we couldn't quite find the right card so we just went with the next best thing.

Sands: Whatever, give it here.

*Silly little love song plays in the background*

Sands: Nocturne. *Hands her the flowers and card... Not knowing it's a romantic greeting card*

Nocturne: Sands, what is the-... *Trails off, sees the flowers, reads the card, listens to the music and blushes* Sands... How did you know?

Sands: ... Huh?

They get married (mostly because Sands is too afraid to say "no"), Lord Recluse dies of laughter, Statesman dies similarly after hearing of Recluse dying of laughter. And the world is a better place.

On another note, other random pairings: Scirocco x Ghost Widow... yeah, no imagination... Lady Jane x Fusionette (Kamikaze lesbians!), and every woman x Back Alley Brawler, because women love the BAB.

I thought it was going to be about how balancing an MMO is like steering a ship.

Cause when she "goes crazy" he doesn't suffer Knockback.

Jenkins, on the other hand, would be found somewhere in South Africa I bet.
