So whats after Martial Arts?
Ya know, if this counts as the "natural" booster, I think a LOT of people got gipped.
Backpacks? Body Armor? Helmets? Tactical Headsets? LBE's? Drop-Leg holsters? I could go on... So the weeaboos got their pack, but what about all the cops, commandos and mercenaries? Don't you think they shoulda' got somethin'? Hopefully that's in the works. Other than the obvious gripe above, I do like the MA pack. Ninja run is more viable as a travel power for my natural type characters. |
And yes, we are wanting more of the "Superscience" and less of the "Mad Science" in the next Science Booster. I would LOVE a nano-shift costume change emote, for one, with a cloud of shiny metal hexagons "cocooning" the character and then shattering off (a la the quicksilver effect in "Invisible Man").
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
I wouldn't buy a "mutant" pack that contained, more or less exclusively, animal body parts for costume pieces. No disrespect intended to fans of such things, but to me when you say the word "mutant" in the context of superheroes, it conjures imagery of the X-Men, not catgirls or hentai. I'd be pretty disappointed in a "mutant" pack that went in that thematic direction, in much the same way I'm disappointed that the "science" pack went in the thematic direction of Dr. Frankenstein rather than the Fantastic Four.

So while human looking mutants don't have some obvious hook you could design a costume around like Magic or Cyborg did, a non-human mutation would. And we could certainly use a few more options in that department. Most of the limb, head and tail options have been there since the start of the game, or at least since COV, and they look pretty dated next to the great stuff that's been released in the last year.
I'd like to see some moving tails or hair myself. The tech is there now, they just have to adapt it. A lot of people have been asking for some Lost style costume parts too, and a Mutant pack would certainly be a great place to add it.
SG Mate: Cien, what the hell is this Rookery thing?
RadDidIt: (interjecting) Dude. It's the Rookery.
SG Mate: Yeah, but what IS it?
RadDidIt: Silliness Incarnate.
The trouble with Mutants ala the X-men is they look by and large just like any other super hero. Some may look obviously inhuman (like Beast), but for the most part they look like anything you could make with the character creator now. Mutant is fairly much just a cheap origin knock off of saying 'look, they just have super powers, okay.'

For that reason, the Lost should (!) fall into Science origin.
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
-chuckles-
I'm almost stunned that someone even asked. Buuuut, here ya go.
Weeaboo, Pronounced "Wee-ah-boo" can be used as a noun or an adjective. A weeaboo is Someone who is obsessed with Anime. They are usually American kids who take pictures holding up peace signs and or Japanese products whilst squinting their eyes to appear more Asian.
A weeaboo in his natural habitat. (Usually a basement.)
Most, if not all weeaboos are completely ignorant of Japanese culture outside of anime. The weeaboo diet consists of Pocky, Sushi, or whatever food products they can find in the local F.Y.E. or Asian food store.
Weeaboo is not to be confused with Anal-Retentive, Mouth-Breathing, Japanophile.
Also generally considered somewhat offensive slang.

If that's still in effect and we got moving tails, you probably couldn't use them and wings/capes/longcoats at the same time.
Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.
good luck D.B.B.
Officially the Mac Client pack, that included the Valkyrie armor.

Next: Mutant Tentacles. Includes multiple costume pieces sporting writhing tentacles, including the first animated 'tail' in City of Heroes.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
You pay to play. Having fun is ok. Kill Skuls or kill Crey. Hunt at night or in the day. Black or white or shades of grey. Play it your way. We have no say.
Silas' official theme song: Word Up!

I have alot of cute animal characters but I really hope the mutant pack isn't furry animal parts , id much prefer to see hideous mutations in the vein of Lovecraft, silent hill , resident evil or even total recall .
as our special power the ability to have nonsymetrical body parts , such as a withered arm and a huge arm |
Creepy mutants ftw!
Like Underworld? Then take a look at! http://moonid.net/account/recruitmen.../monstersgame/
And don't forget to join the fight for our City! http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index....ard,134.0.html
Technically, the Lost are mutates, not mutants. The former are changed due to outside influence, whereas the latter hold latent or expressive aberrant genetic sequences.
For that reason, the Lost should (!) fall into Science origin. |
The things in The Mutant Chronicles and in tons of other sci-fi/horror are all called "mutants"
The genetically evolved with powers being the only "true" mutants is probably a comic book thing (and even there some publishers will probably sin against that rule i'm guessing >.>)
Also despite that: i agree, the Lost ARE science origin!

as Ood Sigma said....We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.
Gentlemen.
What do you think they'd do AFTER the last 'origin' pack? They can't call things origin anymore. It's just absurd! Anyways I think they'll put the requests in a new pack, maybe. Or it might just pop up in GR. Who knows?
Anyways, I'd like to see some more monsterous things for mutant. I want my tentacles, and true wolf head (I want to make a werewolf like the 5th have!)
ATs to 50 - TA/A Def, Nrg/Nrg Blaster, EM/EA Brute, WS,ELM/ELA Stalker
Mutant pack does sound good.
/e hears news about no water zone and cries.
MAH PONY!
/e shrugs.
Oh well. :P

But I do look forward to the next round of these. I'm sure they won't stop at 5; they've been pretty darn successful thus far.
Pay-for-content works, it is now virtually mainstream in gaming. No experiment demonstrates this more, than the ridiculous secondary-market value of WOW Trading Cards.
So not only will this continue, but if COH is smart, they'll enable even more micro-payments.
If I could ask for anything, it would be a base editor pack, with all kinds of new gadgetry to add to bases; probably not the smartest decision financially though, as it wouldn't be as universal. In other words, not everyone edits a super base, so not everyone would want it.
Mutants will get next dibs I wager.
I applaud this stuff though, I believe it sustains games with smaller subscription numbers (that would be us) and it can help justify the enormous investment an MMO involves, which might entice additional product development. And I think Magic the Gathering proved decades ago that gamers will chase a competitive edge with $$$.
The next step of course is to monetize it across user-content as well. In other words, give tools to users to develop content, designs and other nifty stuff and let them openly barter it, (with the game retaining a service fee for the transaction of course). This, of course, is where some games have already ventured, but its time will come for mainstream MMOs too.
This is...quite possibly...the greatest time to be a gamer. It may well be considered the "renaissance" of video games, especially role play games.
It is light years from Zork and the Caves of Chaos, lets put it that way!
