The 50k limit is a hard-cap on trial accounts. You'll be able to earn additional influence / infamy upon subscribing to the game.

If you upgrade, you will be able to earn and store up to 2 billion inf on your toon. You can view your inf totals at any time by checking your ID screen (Options > I.D.)

Don't worry -- that amount of influence is very negligible and you will earn much more, very quickly.

Currently, you're playing on a trial account that has reached it's infuence cap.
If you join up as a regular account, you will be able to earn more and store up to 2 billion of it*
When you activate and upgrade to a regular account, you will not get any "bonus" or what you may have been earning now.
Think of it as a light switch on a lamp. When you hit 50k the switch was turned off and the lamp turned off. When you activate and upgrade, that switch will turn back on and you will again have the light on. It won't turn on the football stadium lights, open your garage door, and turn on the lights in the other room (i.e. the potential influence you would be earning if you were already upgraded).
* Thanks to the Markets, you can store more than the 2 billion character cap by researching the Market Forums.
Also, Influence is easy to make if you pay attention, play the game, and check out the tips and tricks of the forum section I just linked you too.

Trial Account
Overview
Trial Accounts allow a player to take City of Heroes and/or City of Villains for a test run. They are free and last either 10 or 14 days, depending on the source of the Trial Account code. Up until Issue 12, a Trial Account was not limited in what it could do; as of Issue 12, there are several restrictions put in place. Most of these restrictions were placed due to RMT spam.
Restrictions
Trial Accounts cannot email other players
Trial Accounts may not level past 14
Trial Accounts can only have 50k influence
Trial Accounts may not join global channels
Trial Accounts can only speak in
/local
/hc (the Help channel)
/team
Trial Accounts cannot invite players to team
Trial Accounts may join teams, but not invite other players
Trial Accounts may not join SuperGroups.
Trial Accounts may not create Mission Architect arcs. They can not interface with the Architect Entertainment Stations. However, they can be invited onto a team that is running MA missions.
Take notes, looks like another Trial code got out without any documentation.

(this is not a slight on you, I have no idea how you play, just a dig against some of the other "standard" rants some new players coming from other games seem to make).

Just kidding - about the bidding war part. If you're on Infinity, I'll really give you the influence. Or on Triumph. I think I have a lot of influence on Freedom and Virtue also, but I'd have to check.

My global's @Soulwind and I'm on most evenings after 6:00 PM Central Time or so.
My high levels are on Guardian (red or blue side), Pinnacle (blue side), and Protector (red side). If you're using one of those I can hook you up right away.
If you're on one of the other servers, I'd have to look and see who's available...
